I had such a delicious and unique meal here! They were unfortunately out of the neckbone stew. My favorites were the shrimp toast, sweet potato hoe cakes, and the short rib. The shrimp toast was surprising for me and the shrimp was baked into the bread. The hoe cakes were buttery and light, and the short rib came with congee and the meat was very tender and fell right off the bone. The hood sushi, mac and cheese, clams, Laotian scotch egg, and po mi were okay but solid - nothing too exciting but the fish in the po mi was cooked perfectly. Four of us shared seven dishes and we were all full and satisfied after everything. The food was all served very quickly and service was attentive. They did ask us to leave after around 90 minutes to allow other guests to use our table. A lot of the southern food had Asian influences which I did not expect. I'll be back!

Went last night, had a reservation. It was great - The waiter was attentive but not overly so- very helpful and kind.We ordered several dishes - we eat a lot - and they were so tasty. I really loved the collards and pickled vegetable plate, the short ribs dish was amazing (the congee was super tasty and the egg made me so happy) and the gumbo was finger licking good. The mock tails - delicious! And bread pudding was great. It's a beautiful space - it's a little loud, but that's because it's packed and there's lots of windows which i love.Looking forward to going again.... ! YUM!

Had dinner with 2 friends. From the moment we walked in, it felt like a family table. The entire staff was friendly and inviting. The vibe inside is perfect (decor, seating, music). We got a smattering of apps; BBQ shrimp, shrimp toast, scotch egg, and hood sushi. All perfect. Amazing amount of flavor that was balanced and perfectly cooked. For entrees, we shared the short rib, trout, and pork chop. Again, all perfectly prepared and seasoned. Not a bad bite. Cocktails were original, balanced, and fun. Desserts of key lime pie and bread pudding were enjoyed by all. This is a must go any time I visit Seattle from now on!

Wow! Every dish made me close my eyes and have to take a moment to appreciate the flavor, the texture, and the perfect combination of both. The black pea hummus was smooth, just salty enough to bring out the flavor of the black pea and the accompanying pita was warm and soft. The fritters were good but the Trinidadian curry it sat on was off the charts. The short ribs with congee was a hug and then some for the belly and the soul. Bursting in your mouth flavors, perfectly hot, a bit of crunch. I will never forget this dish. To top it all off, the desserts were spectacular. Velvety smooth key lime pie and bread pudding (yay for no raisins!) that was just the right amount of sweetness and chew. The service. Again, no other way to describe it besides the best service I've had in a very long time. Wow!

If you're reading this you probably already know that this is one of the best restaurants in our area. Located in the historic Liberty building; the ambience and photography creates a great sense of place, blending the past history and present presence of elements of Seattle's Black community. Food is amazing - particularly the fritters with Trinidadian curry - I could have licked the plate. I also had the catfish po mi - a great blend of flavors and the catfish was perfectly crisp. The desserts were also stand out - the brownie is everything anyone ever wants a brownie to be. And don't forget to order a drink - the bartenders know how to mix a good cocktail, especially the Cherie Amour. The place was of course very busy on a Saturday night, and the servers worked quickly and graciously. Go!

This may be my new favorite Seattle restaurant. Yeah, I know I am late to the party, but I am here now. And I can't think of any other place in town with the super positive vibe of this place and this kind of of excellence in food at the same time.On that vibe: friendly, classy, and never pretentious employees at every turn. These are genuine humans, being themselves and clearly loving life and what they do here at COMMUNION. It's like being at the absolute best dinner party on the planet with the most amazing people who serve you great food and drinks. And that food. OMG. Exceptional take on soul with clear northwest influences that chef and owner Kristi Brown calls "Seattle Soul." Bring it on. Every single dish I tried here was superb and soul-satisfying in the deepest way. As was the beautiful mocktail made at the copper top bar. The decor, layout, and feel of the place are warm, inviting, upbeat, and "welcome home" in nature. It's no wonder this place has garnered exceptionally high praise. Condé Nast named it one of the 12 best new restaurants in the world in 2021. The New York Times put it in its 2021 "50 places in America we are most excited about right now." And James Beard has come calling with award nominations (this place deserves a WIN!).Reservations have become a little easier to come by now. If you haven't experienced COMMUNION, it's time! If I lived closer, I'd be in here all the time.

I love the restaurant space. It has a good vibe with great music playing. The night my wife and I went, service was nice, but not very attentive. It took us about 10 minutes to be seated with a reservation with open seats to sit at and once seated another 10 minutes or so to get water delivered. Maybe it was an off night for them, but the staff was very friendly. The menu is very unique and has some cool fusion food options. My gumbo was very bland and wasn't my favorite dish. The fried cabbage was possibly the best I've ever had! I would come back for that alone. The Mac was good, but I've had better. My wife's chicken was very good and filled with flavor. The bread pudding was also a hit! We were visiting Seattle for a conference and love to patronize Black businesses. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good food, but a better vibe.

Wow, service here is excellent! Thank you, Niles. The food here was good, not spectacular, but good and definitely worth trying. We'll probably be back. On Yelp, the fried chicken seemed to be popular so we tried that. It was good, but not the best I ever had. Gumbo was average, maybe needed a little more spice. Then we had the po mi, which is a take on the po boy and banh mi sandwiches. That was ok as well. Finished off with the bread pudding for dessert and it was fabulous. Texture and taste was spot on.
