The Zanesville Museum of Art has some well-deserved excellent reviews on Yelp and some other sites. We made the drive (about an hour) to visit this museum based on the high reviews it had and we weren't disappointed. My wife enjoys the paintings and scuptures the most - especially some of the old masters. My preferences lean to the glass, ceramic and pottery art. This museum has plenty of two to keep both of us happy. They have an large collection of glass, ceramic and pottery with a large collection of pottery and ceramics from Weller Pottery (a local Zanesville firm, in it's day); a good collection of Rosewood Pottery (another local Zanesville firm) and a good assortment of Rockwood Pottery from Cincinnati. The museum is spread over 3 floors - it's spacious and bright inside.I would highly recommend the Zanesville Museum of Art. I would suggest a minimum of 1 hour but - to do the museum justice - you really should allow 2 hours.

wonderful Art Museum, especially for a city the size of Zanesville. beautiful recent contemporary architectural addition to original building. we visited from Columbus to see the NEW HORIZON exhibit and hear the lecture by Columbus artist Christiane Curry. on exhibit is a collection of lovely pastel watercolors scenes of countryside Ohio and rural France. born in France just before they surrendered to the nazis, Madame Curry has lived in Columbus since 1954.the exhibit runs through February 9, 2019. it is worth the time for the 1 hour drive from Columbus to view and experience this art.

Being from Pittsburgh, I am always looking to discover new places when I visit my dad in a small Ohio town. He has taken me to Zanesville in the past and I've enjoyed the various pottery shops, so I decided to see what else was around when I visited for Thanksgiving. Today we made the 45 minute drive to visit the Zanesville Museum of Art. I will say, it was worth the drive and, while they seem to have too much space for the amount of art on display, it was nice not to be crowded as I have been in other museums. The only thing I wish is that the art were better arranged, possibly by time period, or having better themed rooms. There's no flow to the museum, so having all different art styles from different time periods all over the place makes it feel chaotic and without focus.Today we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, as there was no charge for admission. We also got to see the Zanesville Prize for Contemporary Ceramics. This was actually our favorite part of the museum. If this museum were in a larger city I would give it less stars, for sure. But I think it's a lovely place to visit when in the area and/or looking for a little easy-paced culture.

A beautiful art museum with lots of quality exhibits. The museum brings a lot of culture and a visual arts scene to Zanesville. I visited in college and enjoyed seeing the variety of artistic exhibits. I had a good experience when I visited.

One of Zanesville's hidden gems. The big red David Black sculpture on the front lawn signifies you have arrived at Zanesville's former Art Center. On top of a Class A collection of Ohio pottery (Weller, Roseville, McCoy, etc) and historic Zanesville glass, this top-notch art museum is home to works by Peter Paul Rubens, Mary Cassatt, Thomas Hill, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Bierstadt, Grandma Moses, ceramicists Toshiko Takaezu, Robert Sperry, Charles Lakofsky, local painters Karl Kappes, Walter Chapman, Leslie Cope, Paul Emory, Juanita Williams, and many, many more. The works on paper collection houses drawings by Ash Can's Everett Shinn & George Luks, prints by Picasso, Picabia, Beckmann, Renoir, Kollwitz, Matisse, and more. The Annual Ohio Show is a crowd-pleaser, and exhibitions change frequently. There is always something new to see at the ZMA!
