I will eat anything. Not picky at all. If I say food sucks, you know it is bad. That is this place. We had two hamburgers. Neither patties were round. Normally, I would say who cares about the shape but the stale bun and dry beef ... it all adds up. Mushrooms- nasty. Boneless wings- awful. Beer selection stinks too.

Mondays and Wednesdays are my favorite nights.Mondays are '80s nights, complete with videos on the big screen. The DJ takes requests but doesn't always play them. There's a tremendous nerd factor uniting the older crowd who come to remember and the younger crowd who come to goof off. Rum drinks for $1.50 help with the latter.Wednesdays are goth/industrial nights. There's hardly any crowd, but the DJs play a decent mix of goth, synth, EBM and industrial. Again, fantastic drink specials on rum help.

Stood in line for 30 minutes on sibs weekend visiting my younger brother. When we got to the door they wouldn't let me in because I didn't have a college ID. I'm 29 years old. I'm pretty sure it isn't legal to not let me in based on just because I don't have a college ID

Uptown is the original home of goth night in Bowling Green. I used to dance and tear down in this bar every week, and I still make an appearance every Wednesday. A lot of my older goth friends prefer this bar, and I like it too. The goth crowds are picking up and getting bigger again. They have a great atmosphere. Also gay nights on Tuesday are awesome!!! You can expect a lot of girl on girl and guy on guy action, and there are always drag queens performing from Detroit. A fun place to be!!! I recommend it either night!!!! :-)

I have been going to the bars of here for a few years (25 years old). I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food, drinks, people, but unfortunately times have changed. Today I found out I must be a college student to get into the place. They justify this by saying it's for the safety of their students, but are the residents of BG who have been going to the bar for a while get denied entry. Rising crime in the city should be reflected through security of the bar; scanners for ID's, personnel search and only 21 above for Uptown. Do not deny entry for actual paying customers who tip and can buy more then just soda and water.

Absolute Garbage. This used to be my favorite place in BG. When I started coming here, there was free pool, decent beer, great service, but now with new owners everything has changed.- The pool is no longer free, they try and say this is because people were stealing balls, but that's definitely A LIE. I was there the night they tried to convert the free tables to coin operated and they didn't work because the cue balls kept dropping into the locked bin. Now you have to pay for the balls at the bar.- The beer and liquor selection is TERRIBLE. They run out of things, and then never replace it. All of a sudden one day they stopped serving Makers Mark, and never replaced it. Also the beer is HORRIBLE now.- They cancelled Friday drag nights. Again, I was there the night this happened for the first time, and the owners cancelled it at the last minute. The feeling I got is that they didn't want the gays stinking up the joint. GUESS WHAT, the gays have disposable income, they spend money. Idiots. - Most important, the service is vile. They act as if they are too busy to help anyone, they have terrible attitudes and they have a snooty demeanor that does not fit the establishment. SPECIFICALLY the guy with the dreadlocks is a COMPLETE TOOL. Again, this USED to be my favorite place. It wasn't super crowded, everyone was nice, and it was worth the money. Now it is a complete waste of time. GO ANYWHERE ELSE IN BG.

Downtown: Laid back, lots of space to move and breathe, huge bar, pool tables, sports on TV, music's not too loud, but its fun for college ages and I think older people too. Always seem to have some good convo's downtown.Uptown: I only go on gay night (Tuesdays.) A few years ago it was lots of fun. People were really outgoing and it was easy to make friends. There were always cute BGSU and Toledo guys there. Now it seems like the drag shows go on too long, and they changed the sound system so its really loud and hard to have a conversation with anyone. I know last time I was there a bunch of my friends left because they were so annoyed by the drag show.

Very rude service, doorman let my friends come in and then shut the door on one of my other girlfriends leaving her outside there alone with all these guys she didn't know around her because he didn't want the stairway to be "too crowded" when only 3 of us were one the stairs, other shitty service as well

The 3-star rating is a blend of my experiences with Uptown in the past (5 star) and now (1 star.) From what I understand they changed owners in the last year, and everything has changed and not for the better. The way it used to be was that every night had a theme, and Uptown was basically a different place every day of the week, which made it really interesting and cool. Goth Night used to be here, but now it has moved down the street to another venue. I think Thursdays and Fridays were hip-hop nights and that also brought a totally different crowd. Tuesday nights used to be GLBT night. It was super fun and I went almost every week for the three years I lived in BG. What totally surprised me about it was that people would come loyally every week to see friends, dance, and relax.. it was more like a community, not just a bar. It was a very safe and comfortable space. All the Tuesday nights I went, I never saw any discrimination or anything that would make anyone feel unsafe. Another amazing thing about the Tuesday nights: People from the whole region - all the rural areas around BG and Toledo, and southeastern Michigan, would come. I met friends from BGSU, UT, downriver Detroit, Fort Wayne, Defiance, and Findlay. Although the majority of people were from the university, the dance floor was pretty full even during summer and winter break, because they had loyalty from people from all over the region. What I liked about the atmosphere is that it was really possible to make friends and feel a sense of belonging. In the gay world it is hard to find that, so Uptown on Tuesdays was great. The Uptown dance floor is in a different "room" than the bar area. Half of the dance floor is upraised like a stage which makes it really cool, if you go up to the top you have a view of everyone in the club, and it makes you feel important. The building itself is very cool, as it is over 100 years old and on two floors. To get to Uptown you pay a cover charge at a window, and then go up a steep flight of stairs. Getting down the stairs after the night is over was always harder than getting up the stairs at the beginning of the night.I can't speak for all the theme nights, but on Tuesdays the DJ was always pretty good. In recent years the sound system got worse (louder but not better... I preferred the old sound system which was better and not as loud.) And the music quality slipped a little. Anyway, I recommend that you check out Uptown/Downtown and see what the new owners are doing, it is (I think) a unique old building with a lot of tradition, and worth checking out. But I am not happy about their decision to change up the nightly themes and events. Those nightly events are what made me loyal to Uptown, and with them now gone (Tuesday and Wednesday nights), its not real likely I'll be a customer.
