The Overhang is a bar on Court Street. It's unlike many of the other pieces of shit in Athens. They are a bit more clean, and it's got not as much of a sterile feel like many others. It's got a better atmosphere and music. This feels more like a hipster kind of place than a lot of the bro bars there. I like it more than many other bars in Athens. It's got some cheap specials like PBR for $1.50. The Bloody Mary is also good, and that's great because it's not even close to my favorite cocktail. It also has food but it looks like typical bar things. The music really gets loud. It's not a place for a conversation. This seriously has to be the cleanest bar in town. It's good to know there's a chance you won't get hepatitis. That's good enough to get me in. I would go to The Overhang the next time in town. It's clean and unlike Broney's they actually have a good atmosphere. This is a good hipster bar so be aware of that.

As new places go, this one could go either way.Clean, sharp and trendy, it's a classy joint for a college town, but has a comfortable casualness that's accessible. The fish sandwich was impressive but the "loaded" nachos and cubes-of-buffalo-chicken salad were lame. They need to crank up their fare to match their decor.Good beer selection and TVs all around. Looks like they have a live band setup too.

This is a great addition in an old location. The mood is great for food, drinks, and music. The burger was good, but the Bloody Mary was even better. It was fantastically crafted in the Cajun style- complete with pickled-okra garnish. I look forward to trying their brunch and their take on chicken and waffles.

If this place didn't have such amazing staff that they do it wouldn't be as amazing as it is!!! If it was for Kirstyn carrying the whole town of Athens on her back you wouldn't be able to get the best mixed drink in town it's a must if you're in town (or even if you just wanna go party)!!!!!

This bar used to be one of my favorite bars in Athens. I, however, am from a different state and the bouncers are told to bend IDs in half to see if the films are real. They have done this so much to my ID that is now bubbles up and they are convinced it is fake. They are completely rude when I come to the bar, threatening to take my ID and call the cops, which they never actually follow through with. I have since found out I am not the only one this has happened to and I know for a fact they are letting underage students into the bars. What they are told to look for on IDs is completely inaccurate. Great bar, terrible employees.

Best Bloody Mary's in town but at night on the weekends the music is much too loud--service almost makes for it though.

This is my favorite bar in a town with many choices! The owners are actively involved with making their bar successful and a safe, fun, relaxed place to hang out. I like that the bartender knows me when I walk in and starts pouring my favorite beer and that when I see Eric or Barb they are genuinely interested in me and my life and they stop to visit with people who come in. College bars can be like factories and this is def NOT like that. I almost hate to write this and give away my secret Friday "place"!

It's a god place to hangout for a little bit. I don't recommend this pace for a long endeavor. The root beer float is what I got. I got two and both we're made differently. Not very consistent with their pours and that is coming from a bartender from the Short North in Columbus. If you pay attention nothing they do is consist. Save your money and go to a different more mature bar. I'm paying enough they should at least be consistent.

I loved Overhang for the years I spent at OU. Great chill place, fantastic pool tables, but recent management has clearly been not qualified in the field of customer service in regards to beverage and food service. Went there recently in the late night to play pool. We played a few games it was fun. Then at 1:55 we starting playing a new game. The bartenders said it would be fine to play that game as the last game. Mind you it takes 15 minutes roughly to play billiards. Clock strikes 2:00 and they kick us out mid-game and did not refund my roommates or myself which accounted for over $5. They responded with "you should've been Gina before 2:00" when they clearly told us we could stay an extra 10 minutes to finish our drinks and pool.If you ask me, that sounds like a scum bag management style. Where else in the world will they rip you off so easily. I'll tell you right now, Overhang in Athens, Ohio. Never go there.

I remember this place when it was called The Tavern over 40 years ago. Back then (for a time) it was owned by a guy named Jim Anastis. I also remember when it was called The Greenery too. But that just means I'm old. The interior has been completely remodeled. It's pretty much all college kids now. The focus seems to be the pool tables which are always occupied. Im writing a review because this is BY FAR the cleanest bar in Athens. If you appreciate bleach and pinesol like I do, you'll love this place. Nice owners who run a clean bar. I hear they may be bringing food back.
