Everything!!!!!This is a place that Columbus Ohio has been lacking for quite some time. The environment is awesome. The karaoke is awesome. The line dancing is awesome The staff is awesome but most of all the food is what keeps you coming back. I have been there like four times within a month and a half, so with that being said Soul 2 Go is my Go 2!!!!!!

MAKE RESERVATIONS before you decide to go or take a real risk of not being able dine here, or worse having a long wait. * The place is intimate. There is a nice size bar and several movable table and chairs. Now for the food....A-OK. Nothing spectacular and mostly what you can easily make at home, if you cook. There were 5 of us and we all agreed on that point. Actually the smothered pork chops were overcooked, easy to do if you don't know how to cook. That shouldn't have been the case here. Served with a little rice. I do think the sweet potatoes are from a can. *shrug*IMHO the cornbread was probably the most noteworthy item. Another thing to note, the service was top notch. Even during a full house!Glad we tried it, but not in a rush to come back and that's too bad. We want to support minority owned businesses.* made reservations through YELP. Must have credit card and $20 per person cancellation fee. :-/

I really wanted to love this place because soul food is my absolute favorite. Unfortunately, finding great soul food when dining out has always been a challenge for me. Moreover, since I can't indulge in eating soul food often for health reasons, I was hoping Soul 2 Go would be a special treat. Unfortunately, it fell a bit short of my expectations and left a lot to be desired. Let's start with the Pros:The restaurant is very clean, nicely decorated, and in a prime downtown location. The staff was incredibly friendly--multiple employees greeted me upon arrival, the host was very kind, and everyone was accommodating. Now let's get to the cons. I initially tried to place my order on the website, but it kept showing as "closed," which didn't make sense at all for a Friday on Valentines Day at 4 PM. I decided to call instead, only to be told that phone orders weren't accepted and that I had to order online. When I explained that the website wasn't working, I was advised to use Grubhub or DoorDash. After downloading DoorDash and attempting to order, it still showed as closed. Grrr. I thought to myself they have to be losing many potential patrons simply due to how difficult it is to order in the first place.Since I was already on my way, I decided to order in person. However, parking was a nightmare. The restaurant is located in a back alley with no meters, so most patrons were illegally parking behind the building. I did the same and prayed I wouldn't get towed. I like to try different things when at a new restaurant so ordered wings with mac and cheese, and baked beans, and also ordered the catfish and spaghetti meal. Despite the restaurant not being busy, my food took 40 minutes to make--yikes! The meal itself was just okay. The mac and cheese tasted more like an upgraded version of boxed shells and cheese rather than the rich, baked Southern style I expected. The spaghetti had mounds of noodles but barely any meat sauce. The fish and chicken were okay but nothing to write home about. Surprisingly, the baked beans were the best part of the meal, which was disappointing given everything else I ordered.Overall, while the service was great and the restaurant had a nice ambiance, the food and ordering process left a lot to be desired. This may be a decent place for casual diners, but for those who grew up eating traditional, homestyle southern comfort food and are accustomed to our familiar soul food favorites, this place may not meet your expectations.

When I walked down High Street, I turned into an alleyway showcasing art. I was taken back into a Harlem Renaissance period to an intimate spot that held 50 period. There was live live jazz playing and it's packed on Sunday. There was an obvious church crowd and regulars were greeted.. the only solo seats were at the bar. They asked if I was there for the first time and a patron leaving said that I would not be disappointed. I was greeted immediately by one of the owners. I received water right away. Took a little while to receive a menu. Roughly 10 minutes. However a superstar of the place, Brittany came through with explanations and recommendations. The did not have a cocktail menu but She told me by memory. I decided on a Soul Sister, something like a Tequila Sunrise which included Don and Grand Manier. I knew it was trouble. String. Delicious. I packed my patience for the order taking and receiving the food. The Blackened Salmon Pasta and Fried Cornbread was worth the wait. Large portions were seasoned to perfect. I spills have loved to get dessert and a bowl to go but I couldn't finish the food. I can't wait to fly back. Beautiful art. Servers felt like family and were welcoming. I'll be back. Reservations are needed on the weekend end. I think the place is downtown prices. This place made me proud.

Its definitely black owned and operated and I was glad about that. The music volume was just right. I don't like going to places and the music is so loud you can't conversate. The conversation volume will get very loud so it's not intimate. Its more like a bar or pub with soul. If you want a quiet intimate night out this isn't it. However I enjoy black culture and it was very refreshing. There are plenty of TV's. The seating can be tight but not a problem.. Its best to make reservations. Parking can be a problem. If you are a person that gets cold let the hostess know not to seat you by the door in the winter. The artwork and colors are a nice touch and I enjoyed that. The bar seems to be well stocked. The menu is clear and easy to read. There aren't a ton of options to confuse you when ordering. I was hoping the server would have asked if it was our first time when she greeted us but maybe next time. The reason why I say that is it would have given her an opportunity to give suggestions and make it feel more personal than ok what do you want to order. However i just asked her myself. We were asked multiple times if we had ordered by different servers and that was fine. Silverware came after we were seated and that was ok. The serve seemed to have good knowledge on the menu which is a huge plus. However she seemed a bit rushed and I didn't like that. But it's not a deal breaker. I like to feel welcomed and not like I'm rushing the staff. I ordered smothered pork chops with greens and cornbread. The other order was shrimp and grits. Water was also brought to the table once seated. Once the order was placed it would have been nice if the server said good choices or you will like that. I say that because these things show superior customers service and make you feel like you are all that matters at that moment. They did keep bringing us drinks we didn't it table order. That's wasn't a big deal. It took a long time for us to get our meal. It wasn't just us and I see why the staff kept asking if we ordered. Our table did t have salt and pepper until we asked for it after the food arrived. When the food arrived it was hot. The chop gravy was a tad salty and it needed more rice with it. The chops were tender and good. The greens didn't have slot of soul flavors. They could have been cooked longer and seasoned better. I do know some people like crunchy stems and I don't. I added pepper and it helped them. Since this is considered a soul food spots they should have ginger at the table for the greens. The cornbread was good but not special. I would order the dish again but tell them to hold the salt. The shrimp and grits were good but not memorable. The grits need to more creamy and cheeses. The shrimp was good and not over cooked. This dish feel short . I wouldn't order it again. Now if the shrimp was wild caught and the grits were more creamy it would close to New Orleans flavor. Peach cobbler for dessert and it was the star of the show. Its. 5 cobbler but I'm taking one star because it needs ice cream. Its not a sharable size. "So my brother you will have to get your own".. we needed a spoon for it but only received a knife and fork. You can't gett all the goodness out with a fork. It would be a great touch if the owners would go to each table and thank you for coming like they do in new Orleans. Overall I will be back for more. Is it true soul food? No. What it is is a true representation of black culture. It is a refreshing environment to eat and drink and celebrate black culture.

One of the last meals we ate in Ohio and I glossed over writing the review because I use a 24 hr rule if something bothers me; then I just plain forgot to return to finish writing. I remember an artsy kind of entrance in the alley and expecting it to be carry-out only. It's rather small but we must have caught a lull in the action as we were seated immediately. The server was fantastic up to the point she asked if I was refilling the lemonade and neglecting to mention it's not complimentary. While that's a ridiculous policy, it's more or less expected in most diners. Unacceptable to refill without first making us aware there's a charge. The catfish was wonderful, crispy yet tender. The Mac and cheese - addicting, even the greens were tasty. Great greens. The jerk chicken was a bit too dry, like it was leftover in the fridge a couple days feel. I used an old trick combining it with sauce and sides and it remedied. This was a very inviting, cozy spot and they played decent music. Everyone we interacted with was polite and professional. I really hope we get back to Columbus to try them again!

Soul 2 Go Cafe is excellent! I was visiting from New Jersey. A friend advised that we try this gem in the alley. It's exactly that--soul on the alley!! The food came out quickly and piping hot. The service was excellent. I had three different people ask us how the food was and if we needed anything. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and soulful. I asked to speak with the chef/owner Will. He was equally as pleasant and welcoming. We had the soul bowl (chicken breast, yams, collards, Mac and cheese) and the fried whiting with yams and Mac. Very good. For dessert, I tried the warm pound cake. The chef sent out blueberry cobbler also. Excellent again! I highly recommend this place if you are passion through Columbus, Ohio. It's downtown. Love love love this place. I have eaten all over the world this is in the top tier 1% of American soul food.
