Lancaster is such a lovely and quaint town full of history. The Sherman House Museumnis a gem on the Museum and History Tour circuit. General William Tecumseh Sherman grew up here and then lived in the home with his family. It has been lovingly restored with many of the families own belongings. Each tour is guided and narrated by a local knowledgeable docent. You get plenty of details about how they lived, who they socialized with, (Henry Clay and Daniel Webster) as well as historical information about Lancaster. Furnishings are beautiful with pieces dating back to the 1800's. This is a must do when you visit.

What a gem! So many great artifacts and things I never knew. Another great aspect of this museum is it's humbleness. No arrogance here..., very respectful of Sherman's entire life..., including all his family. Learned a lot. He's not a crazy general as evidenced by the successive post war successes (won't state here).

I first came to the Sherman House on a field trip in high school and loved it so much that I had to come back for more with my family. Very interesting and neat period collection and decor throughout, and the staff was very friendly and informative. I was speechless in awe throughout the tour, it was all so fascinating! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging, full of neat stories of W.T Sherman's upbringing and life, and liked to play neat little guessing games with us as to what this and that was.All and all we had a great time and talked about it almost the whole car ride home and how fun and interesting it was.

Very informative tour. I knew very little about General William T. Sherman before the tour, but I sure know a lot now. The house is decorated in period furniture and the displays upstairs are really well done. We also did the sister museum, the Georgian house which was very nice also

Every time I drive through Lancaster, I wonder what the Sherman House looks like inside. Now I know! I randomly decided to take the combined tour of both the Sherman House and the Georgian Museum yesterday, and I had a blast. I managed to arrive at a non-busy time and got private tours at both locations! The docents were extremely friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. We got into detail regarding all of the details of the house, the Sherman family and their connection to Lancaster, Cump's private life, and his military career. The interactive screens gave me more information than I ever really knew about General Sherman, without hyper-focusing on this role in the Civil War. The museum provides a great portrait of the humanity of a person, regardless of their accomplishments and impact. Did you know Sherman was an accomplished artist? I was yesterday days old when I found out, too.

The William T Sherman House was a wonderful place to visit. It was nice to see the town of Lancaster and home where Sherman grew up. The tour guide explained how his home was gradually expanded (middle portion of home) when William was growing up and that the front portion of the home was added by a later owner. The home has many Sherman family artifacts and period civil war décor. The tour guide was very informative and I'm glad we stopped in for the tour!
