Sanfillipo Produce

This place has been around for 9 years and has never been reviewed on Yelp. Let that sink in for a minute...A buddy of mine who did the #YelpCleanse with me told me about a place on the East side that was primarily wholesale--but also was occasionally open to the public at really good prices. And if you know me, you know I *love* the hunt for great produce.So I grabbed Susie R and we headed out to find this magical land of produce... also known as Whitehall. When we pulled up, it was definitely a giant warehouse out in the middle of nowhere. Susie and I wandered around for a bit before we found the entrance . This place is definitely made for wholesale, and it's not overtly customer friendly. I kinda love that. It's like this hidden secret adventure! (Btw, I added pics of the correct entrance.)Once we were inside, we were so warmly welcomed by the Sanfillipo's staff! Everyone seemed genuinely excited to see us. The space is tiny, but they pack only the best items inside. The produce is extremely fresh--and cheap!--and they also have grass-fed Ohio beef, natural Ohio chicken, Ohio honey, local eggs, and Snowville Creamery milk!The interior isn't much to look at. It's all about the produce, people. So if you have an adventurous spirit and also love the hunt for great deals on great produce, then head on out to Sanfillipo's! And give me a holler--I'm always down for a field trip.

I am always looking for "hidden gems" and was told great things about local wholesale produce shop. I went with VERY high expectations and left feeling a little underwhelmed.Pros: The employees are really kind. You can tell that the produce shop is a labor of love.They have a great frozen fruit cooler. If you like to make your own smoothies, Sanfillipo's could be a great place for you to buy fresh fruitCons: Their prices weren't wholesale prices. I felt like they were more in line with Kroger or Giant Eagle on a normal day. The location is far out of the way for me (near the airport)Bottomline: Great people, good fruits and veggies. Not worth a trip out of the way.

This week, I actually finally did my first produce shopping at Sanfillipo's. It's as rad as Bryant M. says, so pretty much all of his review, plus some thoughts of my own.-- They carry some pantry staples, like dry beans, honey, dried fruit and nuts. It's not a full grocery experience but you can definitely pick up more than just fresh food.-- One of the women who works there is really, really friendly. She works at a desk and has a check-out station situated around her workspace so she can help customers and get other things done.-- The deals are sometimes really good, sometimes only okay, sometimes not so good. The produce prices seem to fluctuate--I remember being more impressed with them on previous visits--and since there will be crops coming into season soon (as of this writing in June), I imagine the prices are going to improve.-- I always seem to want to come here on Sunday/Monday and they are not open either of these days. If you have a M-F nine-to-five, Saturday is your only window for shopping here.-- THEY TAKE CARDS! Which is kind of awesome. Then again, considering anybody can take a credit card on their mobile phone now, I do kind of give anybody who doesn't take cards the side-eye these days.-- Dress warm (or, at least, take a jacket). Most of the produce, cheese, butter, and a lil bit of salami/charcuterie is inside of a walk-in cooler. There's also some additional dried fruit tucked just inside the door.-- Their dried strawberries are dusted with sugar and taste like freaking candy. Probably not healthy but so tasty.I might upgrade to a 5 star when I see what prices do this summer. Right now they're better than Kroger quality-wise, and not nearly as good as Costco price-wise, but better variety-wise. They're good, but I'm not sold on them being amazing yet.

Heard about this place at the State Fair this year. Didn't realize that we had the choice of going into the back until we were about ready to leave. Will definitely remember this place when we have summer bbq's. Nice selection of herbs too. We'll be back.
