Never in my life have I been so disgusted by an apartment complex and their management. Calling these apartments luxury homes in an absurd lie and if I can stop anyone from renting at runaway bay I will be able to sleep better at night. I should have known the place would have issues as right after I signed my lease they had to null it and give me another lease because the unit I had signed for "suddenly had plumbing problems". After all the new paperwork was drawn up and I had cancelled and re setup every utility I realized my apartment was across the hall from the unit in the original lease and there were no plumbing issues, the unit was under renovations and the people in the office didn't realize and then lied about it. The next major issue was our mice infestation. Yes, an infestation. Every night I was woken up to mice running around on our floor and some even dying on the floor of my room. There was a hole in the wall under the sink in my bathroom that was not properly dealt with. Management took 3 days to send someone out and all they did was nail a piece of wood onto the wall and never fix the drywall. I have no doubt in my mind the mice have returned since I left. After this our washing machine broke and sat in our unit completely filled with water. Management "looked" and could not find another washer. So in the peak of the pandemic I carried my laundry down 3 flights of stairs every week and to a laundromat. I finally demanded some compensation as I paid for that service of having an in-unit washer and dryer in my rent and they offered me a $20 giftcard. I almost laughed. Once they had gotten tired of me calling they "realized" the unit next to me that had been empty for 3 months had a washing machine and they wheeled it into my apartment. Now the company has illegally withheld my security deposit and refuses to respond to any emails or calls. I moved out over 3 months ago and their behavior is childish and professionalism is nonexistent. I was told I paid a renters fee, not a security deposit, so my entire months rent I paid upfront was just a non refundable fee. However when I sent them the original documents I had saved stating it was a security deposit they cut all communication. For three months I have tried to make contact and they have ignored me. They also had charged me a fine for not having renters insurance for 4 months, totaling $200, after they failed to read the correct expiration date on my insurance document and have refused to refund me the money. Not only is this illegal but a gross business practice I imagine they have done to many other previous tenants. These are only the major issues. Some other issues include large fees included in every months rent, dog fights in the park and in front of the apartment, trash that goes uncollected, and bed bugs. Do yourself a favor and never live here.

After living at Runaway Bay for 5 years I am really disappointed in how everything has played out since we left our home for the last half a decade. We made some of our best friends and have many memories from long days the pool. After paying rent always on time and referring 6 different units we aren't receiving our initial $300 deposit because there was a change in ownership and the current owners are having us deal directly with the previous owners (who we know left them in the dust by destroying previous records so we won't be hearing from them any time soon). I am deeply disappointed and will not recommend anyone to move to runaway bay until there is a change in leadership. Up until the very end, I would have felt differently but unfortunately this is leaving a sour taste in my mouth after spending the last 6 weeks "fighting" for our security deposit. After we provided the proof of payment 2 forms this has left me with my only option of sharing my story and hoping others learn form my experience. This review does not reflect the impressive maintenance staff or the safety I felt while living at Runaway Bay.

I am a current resident and I have not been pleased with the reoccurring problems of the service provided from the leasing office. The day we had came to tour we had unfortunately been talking to Shay & we quickly realized she was incredibly unprofessional. She was smoking a nicotine device & was on the phone as we were going over things (April 2024). When we came to sign the lease she had lost all respect & mannerisms as if she did not care about us since we were fooled enough to sign a lease (May 2024). Once we had moved in she had told us to make sure we go through everything in the house and make sure to check if anything needed to be fixed. We proceeded to do so after about two weeks of moving in we take it to the office and she said that it had to be turned in within 2 days after move in which was not discussed/disclosed. We then had to wait months to get everything we needed fixed to be fixed whereas if she had discussed that there was a due date with us we would have made sure we had it in on time. Recently my roommate and I decided we should start parking under the huts because it is going to be snowing and we wanted to make sure we had spots, A week and a half goes by of us parking under the huts and both mine & my roommates vehicles were towed. We call the office to see what we would do if we were wrongfully towed and once again we unfortunately got stuck talking to Shay. I was highly stressed that morning but made sure to be respectful and reasonable with all the leasing & towing staff. I continue to ask her why would our cars be towed if we have a parking sticker & she lets us know that there is a special sticker for the huts. Which once again was NOT discussed/disclosed with us because of the lack of professionalism in your office. I go to find the agreement we had signed when we had moved in and I see there is nothing stating anything about towing or parking involving the huts. I was telling her what my agreement had stated & I had took a brief pause to catch my breath and she started to talk, I then finish my sentence not realizing she was talking and she continues to tell me word for word "do not cut me off or i will disconnect the line." I actually was in shock because thats 1. absolutely not okay considering this is a stressful situation for me & I had told her minutes before once again word for word "im sorry if i sound anxious im a little stressed". 2. she took advantage of her position due to her manager Tyler allowing her to blatantly disrespect tenants. I then immediately asked to get transferred to a manager and when I do he is saying that he pulled up the agreement we had signed and is saying it says something about hut parking under the towing section. To remind you I did have the paper in my hand with our signatures at the bottom and it says nothing about hut parking. I then continued to look through the rest of the agreement papers & there is absolutely nothing upon hut parking. So now not only has the front office made an already stressful situation more stressful but also made me feel as if i could not even come to my leasing office for questions because they do not know how to do their job but also without being disrespected. Im not sure if you have gotten to read the reviews on google but every single last review is stating that the customer service in the leasing office is absolutely horrendous. This is my home and it does not seem right to have poor minded ignorant individuals working at such a nice neighborhood ruining things for tenants. It has been a reoccurring disrespect issue with the leasing office and so many tenants can agree. I will be talking with my neighbors and neighborhood friends to make sure something is done. We will contact whoever we have to, to make sure that the disrespect gets dealt with.

This place has been horrible to live in. I've had plumbing issues since I moved in and here we are two weeks later an and I still can't use my kitchen sink. My dishwasher has moldy, dirty water sitting in the bottom of it and it smells horrible.

Don't live here. There are a million other apartment buildings at the same price that are better. The only positive that I have is that we didn't live there for a year. They switch "management" companies to make you think things will change and based off of years of reviews that's clearly not the case. The renovated apartments are a joke and are the equivalent to putting lipstick on a pig and calling them Blake Lively. The floors had to be replaced a few weeks in, our thermostat broke so for a period of time we had 2 thermostats (see picture) ... there was also a leak our first day in from our bathtub being installed improperly... I'd bet $100 that the ceiling has yet to be repaired. Keep in mind we lived there for 6+ months.

Runaway Bay is a scam. The office staff are rude. Maintenance rarely fixes anything and if they do it takes months to get done. They closed all our amenities yet let staff members use them under lock and key. Not fair that residents are basically paying amenity fees just for staff to use them as their own. Never fix any problems within the community. People with their dogs never pick up their poop and nothing is enforced yet there are waste bags set up around the grounds. Literally the worst and over priced. Not to mention none of the safety measures such as locked building doors are all broken and never get fixed. STAY FAR AWAY. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.

Awful management. The maintenance men will come into your apartment unwarranted. I have a video of one of them drinking out of one of my liquor bottles and the property did nothing about it. I didn't have AC for three months and they refused to update us on what was going on. It took a notice of going into escrow for them to fix it. They will tell you an area is guest parking but deny that it is and allow your car to get towed. Most poorly run place I have ever lived in.

I am using this review as a desperate attempt at communicating with the Runaway Bay office, managed by Unified Residential, because they have not returned any of my voice or RentCafe messages regarding being charged rent after officially moving out. I have a record of each time I have called and requested a call back and have even tried to reach out to the Unified Residential main offices. My partner and I moved out with proper notice at the end of June 2022 and was charged rent for July 2022 along with a late fee and multiple water and trash reimbursement fees. My partner and I gave notice twice about our move our date being June 30, including actually talking to the office (surprisingly) about how to transfer utility payments over. My partner and I turned in our keys to a person within the office on June 30 and we were told we were good to go - yet still we have been charged with July 2022 rent and have had ZERO contact from the office.I have kept records of all of my contacts and attempted contacts because I know in the past a friend of mine was a resident and had a balance due that was sent to collections without any heads up from the office. I am trying to avoid that from happening to me. It would be helpful if I had an active email address for the office instead of having to use the in-app messaging system from Rent-Cafe but the office management has turned over so much that I do not have a current email (or any contact info for that matter) of anyone who currently works in this office. I do not know what I have to do to communicate with anyone at this office to settle our incorrect outstanding balance. It was otherwise fine living here and maintenance requests were handled promptly. But everything else regarding contact with the office, especially here on the back end, has been radio silence, mishandled, and unprofessional. On numerous occasions while tenants we have also been billed Incorrectly and have had to go through the song and dance of leaving multiple messages or going into the office in person to get the charges resolved. If someone at the office is reading this review, please reach out. You have my contact info in one of the multiple messages I've sent you or left on your voicemail.

I am extremely disappointed in Runaway Bay. After living there since in the beginning of 2019 in the first renovation of the complex, I have put in my 30 day notice. I have dealt with a LOT over the years, home break ins, car vandalism, terrible neighbors (loud, smoking weed, partying all night) but the staff for the most part was always wonderful. And I loved my reno and made my place my home. however it's gone to far this time. I have a high risk pregnancy which George has been wonderful and understanding about, but management decided to listen to two neighbors complaining about "cat piss" from my home and even though you all are aware that it isn't cat urine (though I have 1 cat and she hasn't learned to use the toilet and flush yet, so she has a litter box!) my great grandma who is 93 with dementia is with me and has a bedside toilet, she also frequently uses the flood, removes her depend and paints with her poop like a toddler, because for those who do not know, dementia reverts you back to a child like stage. i addressed the issues via email after getting a letter on my and asked to please have a reschedule of the inspection so my mom could clean for me since due to my high risk mirafor pregnancy I am not allowed. You showed up anyway. I think for as much as the rent cost I deserve the respect for my unborn child and my great grandm. I have emailed photos of my home and of my nana once I switched her room to clean the other one. She is horrified thinking someone is coming after her now. If I could press charges I would. But I do ask for respect and privacy for the next 30 days while I move while on bed rest and try to think how I'm going to adjust my great grandma to another environment that's going to confuse her!I'd also like to add that I was planning on moving prior to my blessing of a pregnancy, which you all knew, but because of me being high risk was delaying the move until after my delivery in Jan and had decided to go month to month until then. But I won't be made to feel the way you have made me feel the last couple days. Not to mention I've felt extremely unsafe every since the swat situation one building over.
