This place is closed. Damn I hate when that happens. Drove off the 71 and crap closed and dark. Obviously closed for a while. Yelp really needs a better way to prevent this.

Loooook----I rarely give 5 stars on a review... But today I was on a mission to find the best** small town cooking. **In the past when I go on a mission I always fail. So, I've accepted defeat. But today, I could feel a sense of victory. Wouldn't ya know it--I ended up in this SUPER tiny town called Marengo. To be fair my GPS and wifi went out and i was half way lost but it was a great adventure. If you are a city person this would be considered "backwoods " area to you. This town gives total Gilmore girl vibes, minus the park with pretty gazebo .If you have kids and reside in the city, let them get a great opportunity to taste THE REAL definition of down-home cookin. Throw all those major chains like Panera, Cracker Barrel, Scramblers and Bob Evans out the window...THIS is the REAL DEAL.Music- the best. 70s, 80s . I was in Heaven! And actually took off my headphones.Plenty of seating! Very spacious!I absolutely love the decor on the walls (when I like things i take photos). Did you see all my photos? Umm the toy machine brought me back to my childhood and i was just so happy. I got a wrap-up Dino which folds up- from the good good.eraAnd an 8-ball that you can use to play mini pool- leading me to believe there is a whole pool table set In there. I thought about going in for more but ran out of quarters They serve breakfast all day. I got there on a sunny Saturday and missed the breakfast rush! I was torn between wanting breakfast but couldn't pass up a Philly cheesesteak. And whoa Nelly! talk about FINGER LICKIN GOOD! AYE!Bun cooked perfectly (I don't play about my bread)Meat seasoned perfectly . Green peppers, onions and mushrooms tasted wonderful and fresh..The fries though...better than McDonald's and not greasy. These are now my favorite fries. This a family owned and operated business. COVID caused the owner to leave the construction company he started and opened a restraunt instead. And with the blessing this man has of cooking an amazing meal..this man is doing the Lords work and teaching his kids how to run a business. If you don't mind a short beautiful drive off the highway and make it to this hidden gem...I know you will feel completely full, happy and thankful when you leave. I love supporting small businesses and especially those who pour their knowledge into the youth. You mise well call me a regular from here on out!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING (thank me later !)

What a great little family owned spot to get a bite to eat driving through town! The chili is homemade and delicious! I had the Marengo cheesesteak on corn tortillas. It was tasty for sure! Make sure you check out Bonnie's baked goods that they sell there. The no bake cookies tasted like home Gluten free accommodations can be made such as a corn based batter the chef can coat his chicken wings in. I'm putting that on my list for next time!!I wouldn't call this place fancy in any way but the service was exceptional and the food great. Sometimes that is all you need.

Route 229 was a cute little mom and pop diner. We stopped for breakfast and had an omelette and pancakes. The pancakes were HIGE and the omelette was large as well. The ambiance is a mom and pop diner with concrete doors. I overlooked that for the good food at a good price! The waitress was also very friendly, and we were enjoying the conversation as well!

I tried this place out and they were extremely slow and had terrible customer service. It seems everyone was in way over their head and there was actually a shouting match between customers and staff. No thanks.
