This dinner was an incredible experience. The food, the caverns, the service.... The prohibition dinner is a 9 course meal served in an underground cavern that was used for aging beer, and likely more shady activities during Prohibition. The cavern has been updated into a dining room and bar. It does run a little chilly, so be sure to dress appropriately. It is also damp and you have to take an elevator down. Factor these into your decision. Let me also say, this is not a cheap activity, and not for picky eaters. They are very pleasant and accommodating of dietary restrictions, but the was a wide variety of flavors and textures that you need to be willing to try. You pay in advance for this activity .We were met in the little reception area by the servers, and taken down to the cave for a tour and to get settled. We did not purchase the wine pairing, but were offered wine by the glass as an add on, and chose from the pairing list, as it was easy and available. my friend and I both enjoyed a glass of Rose. Once we were seated and settled, we saw 2 other parties come in and were seated, back to front, in the cavern. there are 3 seatings, and they stagger your arrival. First up was the bread service, including a butter candle that melts down a lava rock onto your bread. Very fun, and the bread was wonderful. The fry bread was my favorite. I think the menu is seasonal, so I won't share too many details as it will likely be different if you go .The next course was a savory flan in an eggshell, which was really good, and had a bunch of crispy accompaniments. We also had a smoked salmon course, and a veggie fritter that I would order as an entree, it was so good! The main was duck, and I love duck. Finally, we had a really fun dessert that included white chocolate mousse, apple cotton candy, apple cake, and a streusel bit. I loved it. The portions are on the smaller size, but don't worry, we were very full at the end!The servers were so attentive and all very well versed in the menu. they do a great job pacing service per party and making you feel welcome. This is, to me, a luxury activity, and my party really considered it worth our money, and really enjoyed our experience.

A lovely setting 29 feet below street level. As you walk in, you pass the kitchen where every dish is created! Taking the elevator down, you emerge in the caverns! Seating for 30 or so, there were a few open tables when we visited Friday night. Jamie and Isaac tag teamed our service. A gorgeous place that had some Christmas decor. Full place settings for the delicious 8 course prix fixe menu. We chose the wine paring. They were even able to accommodate my wife's dietary needs crafting dishes she could enjoy. Customized menus for each as a memento as well! We truly enjoyed the delicious and well presented dishes! Thank you!

What a cool concept! Fine dining in caverns accidentally discovered under the parking lot! Service was great! The atmosphere was great! The food was good but could have been better. It is a pre-fixe 8 course menu. While every course was creative and tasty for the most part, it lacked texture. The menu was heavy with sauces and purees. I craved crunch and any substantial texture. Oddly enough, there was no meat on the menu other than seafood. The presentation also needed improvement. Some dishes were done well (homage to an homage to an egg) while others were not (apple and onions). Also none of the dishes were hot. They were either served cool or at room temp. I'm not sure if that was the intent or the result of transporting from the kitchen upstairs without food covers. Our 8 courses took over 3 hrs to experience. It seemed too long and I ready to go home by course 6. Overall a good experience but felt a little lacking considering the $150+ price point.

Saw this 8 course meal in the caverns advertised on FB. We had a week of time off and decided to incorporate a trip to Mansfield from StLouis to eat at Prohibition. We took the opportunity to see the reformatory and check out a few other sights in the area. The evening was an excellent experience all around. Service was first rate and everything we received during the dinner we very much enjoyed. We have some dietary considerations and these were addressed in the menu that was customized for us that evening. If you are considering Prohibition at the Caverns I would recommend it without hesitation. They made the evening a very special experience and we left Mansfield very happy in our choice to travel to experience this unique dining option.

Prohibition at the Caverns is so much fun that you will want to experience it with others. We had an 8-course meal that was fabulous. We cleaned our plate for each course. The staff was wonderful. They explained the courses, were friendly, and you could tell that they enjoyed working there. The restaurant is in caverns found when Hudson and Essex was being built. It is intimate with nice lighting. The wine is paired well with each course. The wine servings are large and multiple so you will want to watch how much you drink. We came from the Columbus Oh area and Prohibition at the Caverns was well worth the trip.
