Inspired every time I set my feet through the door. This is a gym filled with people from all walks of life -- young guys who are using boxing for off-season football training, young professionals that are working out stress from the day job, people who get bored at a traditional gym, boxers who are training and competing, and former boxers who are coaching groups and mentoring people up. Every time I've gone in I've found my self-motivation to increase matched or pushed higher by the energy from the staff and the people around me. Learning the form, consistently going back, knowing your limits but not being afraid to push beyond it -- you'll find all of that energy here.I still hold a Snap Fitness membership. It's comfortable. I am committing to Pilger's twice a week just to make sure I'm pushing myself to grow.

I recently bought a Groupon for boxing bootcamp classes at Old Skool Fight Sports & Fitness Academy. I've lived quite the sedentary lifestyle lately (I blame winter) and needed a new exciting means of exercise.I've attended 2 classes and I'm happy so far. It's not the most organized class, but if you're okay with a somewhat self-directed workout, this place might be for you. I paid around $30 for a 20 session Groupon, so i'm definitely getting my money's worth. The hour session includes jump rope, interval training, shadow boxing and punching bag work (heavy, double-end and speed bags). Rob, the owner, is usually at the gym. He also has other trainers, so it varies who will be giving you directions. There are also serious boxers training there who spar in the ring and hit the pads with other trainers. Despite this "hardcore" bunch, the gym feels very inviting even for novices and the atmosphere is very benign. There are often children training there as well. Rob's infant child and dog also add to this friendly atmosphere. Rob's wife also seems to coach a class for women. I'm not sure of the specifics, but i've seen the group at my last two Thursday sessions. They usually spend time working in the weight room as well. Overall, Old Skool Fight Sports & Fitness is worth checking out, especially if you can secure a deal like I did. It's somewhat self-directed, so keep that in mind. It might not be for everybody, but there's no denying that you will leave with a good workout.

As a person who has tried pretty much every workout scenario out there, I can honestly say this has been the most fun workout I have tried yet. It's not just a boxing gym, but it's a circuit training gym. I love that rather than a big gym where I walk around trying to figure out what piece of equipment to do next, this is a place that offers something to do at all times in a fast pace too. I don't feel like I'm working out, but I honestly have not sweated more in my life! At first I felt weird as a girl going in there, because it's a boxing gym but there are other girls in there too, training, working out, sparring, etc. It's motivational to just walk in there, let alone walk out after working out for two hours drenched in sweat. You will feel a difference after the first workout.

OSFS&FA is great if you need a place to workout. If you're looking for some guidance, the owner's got a lot on his plate and may not be able to give you a ton of attention. I already had a gym membership and was looking for something more. I thought I would get a group training type experience with him kind leading the way. My time there started out great but by the 3rd or 4th visit, I felt like a saw the owner way less than I did during my 1st session (in his defense, he was in the middle of relocating the gym-- but I don't know, perhaps enrollments should have been put on hold at that time because I felt pretty neglected-- not good for how much money I was paying). He's really nice and I like the idea but for the price, I'm not so sure it's worth it. He has to split his time between too many people. Maybe if more staff was added, this place could be great.

The owner "Rob" was too shy to ask if I was paying my gym dues, so he kept asking my last name. When I signed up I told him I'd be paying via cashapp so the name wouldn't be the same. So he decided to take a years worth of payments. Then kick me out, and not even prorate my money. Classy. And decided to kick out anyone I was training with, just out of the blue one day. And I have a recording of every time I trained there. The way he speaks to ppl. Couldn't ask for a worse boxing ambassador..... again, personally, never been to such a hostile gym with a negative environment. But that's IMHO. Some ppl like that type of place I suppose.

My son wanted to start boxing. I was a little hesitant and so was my wife. Our son has been brought up to be very self sufficient, a sheep dog and not a follower. He was lacking some confidence. His confidence changed after he started here at this gym. He is now a very fit, confident and healthy young man. He eats right and works out every single day, either at home, with his football team or here at this gym. If you have a child who is self sufficient and isn't looking for everyone to receive trophies and the end of the class THIS is a great place. This is NOT a place where they are going to hold your hand, give you "atta boys" and make your child feel "special", they will make you EARN their respect. Most successful people do not want to be around a bunch of folks telling them how great they are. They WILL coach you, challenge you, stress your body to its limits. If you are being a slacker they will say so, if you are messing up they will discipline you and remind you of the skills they teach, if you are just flat out lazy, you wont be here long. This is a place where a true passion and love for the sport of boxing and grooming young men and women into very healthy, respectful and well polished human beings. Im 50 years old and have done 4 classes with my son. What a great bonding experience. I will tell you that this place is the real deal. They kicked my butt! and I wanted more the next week. Anyone who has had a bad experience here is simply in the wrong place, maybe try LA Fitness or a gym where you can go at your own pace. This is just as it says "Old School", smells like a locker room, leather and sweat, the bathroom has a pull chain light, the instructors are there because of a desire to "give back" to the youth, they care more about the training and development of their students than fancy equipment, parents night BBQ's or ribbons and trophies. What would I change about this place?.....NOTHING! I am not affiliated with this gym and Im listing my personal email should you have any questions. [email protected]

My friend and I wanted to give boxing a try. The first time coming into the gym, the owner barely spoke to me or my friend and just told me to take the class that started at 5:30. The class had way too many people in it so I didn't really learn as much as I had hoped. A trainer was in the middle of having us hit the punching bags when the trainer from the women's class came and rudely told us to get off the bags so the women can use them. We were in the middle of class so they should wait. Is this a boxing gym or a women's weight loss gym? We weren't even allowed into the room that had the dumb bells and workout equipment because the women's class was in there too. So basically the women's class took over the entire gym and all of the equipment. I finished the boxing class but still wanted to get some lifting in so I waited until the women's class was over so I could go to the dumb bell room. Of course, there was another women's weight loss class after that one. So we ended up just leaving. I came later that same week and the same exact thing happened! I decided that the price just wasn't worth the hassle and if I don't even get to utilize the gym because of the women's class then I am going to go elsewhere. Not a good gym to attend :(

My husband and I purchased a groupon for this place and absolutely love it. It's not entirely structured, so the novice boxer like us can also enjoy ourselves without being intimidated by the more experienced. The owner Rob is very nice , also. I would highly recommend!
