Pennington's is fantastic. Val is so knowledgeable and really knows what he's doing. I came here by recommendation from a co-worker to have an important work framed that I had bought at auction on the west coast. There is a fantastic selection of frames and mats, and Val advised me along the way until I made my final decision. In less than two weeks my picture was ready, and it was stunning. As an art lover/collector I was blown away and stunned when I saw how beautiful his work was. Truly professional job and beautiful. There was a signature on the back of the piece and Val fashioned a plexiglass cutout so it could be seen when turned over. This was just what I wanted. I have had so many framings done that just underwhelmed me--not here. I will return, and I already have a project to take to Val when I get time. There is also a cool selection of art at the store to browse. I really enjoyed browsing and chatting about art with someone who knows that they're talking about. You won't get this at chain stores.Pricing here is commensurate with the quality of the finished product and expertise of the shop owner, and you get what you pay for--stunning results.

I've had Val, the owner of Pennington Custom Art Services, frame seven pieces for me over the past several years. As the previous reviewer mentioned, he has a good eye for what color of matboard and color/material/profile of frame will best set off your work. I particularly like the frame profiles that he has custom made by a local woodworker in Clintonville; in addition to supporting someone local, you can get profiles like cherry and fumed oak that you don't find at mass market framing places. Val can also do conservation work on paper, which means he can remove toning and foxing from aged pieces.Agreeing again with Michael G., Val's prices are very competitive. Plus he gives repeat customers a 10% discount. It's always a pleasure to bring in a piece for him to frame; a couple times, his suggestions were particularly inspired, and the framed work I took home felt like an entirely new work of art. I wouldn't use anyone else in town.

Val is the owner and he does a really great job. In addition to being very creative, he has great suggestions on color and layout. Finally and most important, for all this his prices are very competitive. Add in the other qualities, and his service beats the big chains even with their huge coupons. Give Pennington a go. On Indianola just north of Weber, near Studio 35.

I am an artist who has used Val Pennington's services for over 20 years. He does good work, has a great selection of styles to choose from and has competitive pricing. He also has a great eye and can help when decisions have to be made. An artist friend referred me to Val many years ago. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

BEWARE! I was told to go here from a local art appraiser after experiencing a house fire for restoration work. I was foolish for not checking each piece when I picked up my art. I got caught in a conversation by running into the Art Appraiser while there and had to take off because of parking restrictions. Took them home to fully inspect and was very disappointed with Val's workmanship. I did not call but simply took the pieces back a week later. One piece was mounted incorrectly showing Glue that the artist used to previously mount the work, then it was inserted into a frame with an 1/8" difference from one side to another on a 12" total wide frame, very noticeable. Second piece, he was supposed to cover the edges and left a white gap, again noticeable. So I didn't think it was any huge deal nor did I have an attitude about it, just wanted it corrected. Mind you Val was framing another piece for me in the mean time. After entering the store with my items and being greeted by Val. I said that there was an issue, Val immediately started flailing around, getting an attitude. I asked if he was having a bad day in a very calm tone, he replied "yes, let's just excuse the pleasantries." Then throwing my pieces around. Mind you I already paid good money to have this work done and additional work done. I gathered all my pieces and walked out, that was a true waste of $280. Buyer Beware, Better like what Val likes and the way he likes it no matter what!
