Peggys Soul Food

Brand new restaurant in the Reynoldsburg/East Columbus/Pickerington area that specializes in soul food. We do not have too many true soul food options in Columbus and I believe based on the smells from the kitchen.... Peggy's will hit it out of the park. Unfortunately, I came in just as they were setting up to open for the day and walked in an hour early before they opened to the public. Staff was welcoming. Owner let me walk about and take it all in. Very friendly group of people. I enjoyed how they spoke to each other with respect and joy and there was a playfulness in their tone that makes me certain when you eat here... you will not just get good food but will have a good time. Restaurant was spotless. It has a warm feel and you get a sense that they are are all about family and friends and making people feel seen and welcomed. It has a great vibe. Oh.... Aroma from kitchen was enticing me to stay and order one of everything. They have a nice stage blended into the dining area that they use during the evenings as the restaurant features DJs and bands during the night. I am coming back today to try the lunch menu as they were not open until 11 am and will update later tonight. Very excited to welcome Peggy's to the neighborhood. Come down to this new spot and experience what soul food is all about.aqQ

This evening we tried fried perch, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens with smoked turkey, and blackened chicken.

Final verdict. If you are out by Brice Rd you can stop in. I personally don't think the lunch menu is worth the trip from where we live. I will try dinner another day. The greens are perfect when you add hot sauce the perch is on point. Good crunch and flavor. Mac is average for a restaurant. Portion size is ok not the best. Service ok music isn't loud. I don't think it's true soul food

The restaurant was cold. Not just the one way glass covering the bottom part of the windows like an interrogation room in some crime flick but physically cold, the staff were all wearing coats in the dining room, or at least I think they were staff, my server seemed to be also expediting and cleaning tables so the role of the other staff was a bit of a mystery as was who was on staff, as there seemed to be little in the way of a uniform going on. The decor was interesting and giving off a bit of a night club vibe at noon. I was quite nervous about the experience when I ordered the Peggy Grilled Burger. The waitress informed me that it had blue cheese, however I am not entirely certain if that was to let me know that it existed when it was quite overpowered by the juicy onions or because some people find this cheese off putting and menu items are not well described on the lunch menu. I was quite impressed with the burger and the massive fries that came with it, which is the reason for the rating in total, if the food wasn't amazing I would be having a very different opinion. I do find it interesting that the horseradish mayo wasn't the ingredient that had a warning as the entire top bun was thoroughly coated in the luxurious condiment.

The ambiance is great and they just opened so their is costumer service needed to better serve their customers. No silverware at the table after asking three times. Low knowledge of menu from waitresses to getting wrong food by the cook. Probably should have waited to open and more training needed. Running out of food is a serious issue. Recommend sitting at the bar for faster service. Good luck

The food was good! Nice, clean, restaurant but service needs some attention! Perch was tasteful, sides were ok! My lemon drops were on point though!

My husband and I visited Peggy's Restaurant today. We will definitely come back. it was good. but I have to honestly say the very best part was our server. A very beautiful young lady named "Jahniah J" She was so so good. I will ask to be seated in her area again. She was very polite, beautiful smile, made eye contact the whole conversation. It was so good to see this excellent customer service in a young person. Thank you so much young lady.I got the perch dinner with greens and mac & cheese, my husband got the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of Mac & cheese. The only negative thing was his chicken was about the size of a chicken wing not big at all. He said it was good just real small. But we will be back

I have been looking for good soul food ever since I moved to Columbus in 2011. Well Ifinally found it. I have found the food in Columbus lacking any taste.Peggy's did not disappoint. Sorry I started eating before I took pictures. Best soul food I have had down here. Staff was great.

When you walk in and they had you a paper menu, you are in trouble. Then you look up and half the Monitors/TVs are out. Next when seated, you have to wait a while for the waiter to service you. Then the menu selections are very very limited and how can you claim to be a soul food restaurant without any desert!?? No sweet Potatoe pie or peach cobbler?? You order whole wings and my wife ordered fish. When you taste the wings, they taste like they were cooked in the same oil as the fish?! So you have fishy tasting wings. Next the Yams were from a can, not fresh so you can tell the difference. Finally the mac & cheese is like it was from GFS food Stouffers mac & cheese. I really want to support black businesses, but you need to have quality to keep customers not just do any ole thing!

Well let me say 1st it's not TEEJAYES!BRICE rd. Tuesday,we agreed to try something new..The bill was 48.00 for lunch!2 pieces over fried orange puffy,( overcooked very crusty & dry) yams,Mac & cheese burnt. 24.95Peggy burger 13.95Side of greens 5.00Drink & coffee.We have never pd. This $$$$ FOR lunch.They have ..NO COLESLAW,NO APPLESAUCE,NO SALAD, NO GREEN BEANS.., SAY WHAT! NO excuses not Here.The burger was done,done not juicy.the blue cheese was mushy..I Love FISH..when asked the manager sd there's a 8.$ upcharged for that fish!!! It's expensive!! No more sd.A WARNING to any perspective customer...DONT GO.. or save up your $$$$.. it will break your bank..and you'll be upset & disappointed qithoverall food quality served!!
