Talk about art that gives you goosebumps, well I have found that here in abundance. Established over a decade ago, Open Door Art Studio is exactly what the name depicts, a place where artists who might face physical, mental or emotional obstacles elsewhere are empowered to express their creativity. I was fortunate to have been at the opening of the "This Inspired That" exhibition opening where you could see the inspirational piece & then the artist's interpretation of that work. The artists were on site & you could see the joy & pride all over their faces & I was honored to have had the opportunity to share that experience with them.

I've passed by here but didn't know what it was until I saw some of my friends were going to an opening reception for the "This Inspired That" show.Opened in 2007 this is a studio space which allows artists with disabilities work with professional art facilitators. For the show, there were about a dozen artists invited to pick from the pieces from the gallery and create a new piece inspired by what they picked. It was a great "beginning conversation" between artists.Other pieces were on display and everything was reasonably priced. $30 and up makes art very affordable.

All of the art here is created by individuals with developmental disabilities. Leave any possible preconceptions at the door, this is quality art and very VERY affordable. ($20-$40 for large art) The gallery and workspace coexist in the same area, which gives you such a cool, unique opportunity to meet the artists and talk to them. Everyone there is very friendly and welcoming to visitors. Feel free to tour the gallery space. When I decorate my apartment, I'm coming here for sure. Note: All of the artists I encountered were fairly high-functioning (able to have simple conversations, etc.). There are a handful of employees there who are happy to introduce you to the artists. I really encourage anyone to check this place out and support this great piece of the columbus community!

This is an amazing group of artists with most of the artists meeting at least twice a week. The artists have access to supplies including clay. The staff and volunteers are excellent and artistically inclined.
