Came here last night for more sushi. It's a great little Japanese place in Powell. Got 3 sushi rolls. And the chicken hibachi to split. Overall it was really good and just the right amount of food. I also got the miso soup to start. Which was delicious in this cold weather!!

I stopped here for lunch, I was by myself. When I walked in a gentleman at the host stand said I could sit wherever. I chose a booth. There were a couple of booths, tables, and two bars available to sit at. The waitress came up to my table and asked if anyone was joining me. I told her it was just me and she got frustrated and said it was a multiple party table and told me to eat fast. I said I could move, and she said I could stay there but again to eat fast. This made me stressed to think I had to eat fast when I could have easily moved tables. Other than that interaction that left a bad taste in my mouth, the food however, did not. I ordered a roll that had strawberry and mango on it. At first it was different than anything I have tried before but as I ate it the flavors actually went really well together. It was almost like a dessert roll. I also ordered a seaweed salad as an appetizer. Don't worry, I uncomfortably ate fast so that they could get their booth back. They never got super busy or had parties larger than two that walked in while I was there. By the end of the meal she was nicer towards me. It helped but still I felt less than welcome to be a single diner.

Oishii has been in Powell for a while (former Jeni's location) and we hadn't had the chance to try it. This week we had family in town and younger member suggested we try it for a late lunch (2pm). Parking has always been a problem at this location, given they only have 1-2 spots, but we found street parking near by, with an easy walk. Note if you visit there is a parking lot 50 yds North on Liberty. Upon arrival the place was half empty, and we received a table quickly by the windows. Their bar (not sushi bar) had 4-5 seats and their Sushi bar had 6 seats that were all open. Looked like both were more energetic than the overall restaurant, given traffic around the bar and sushi station. Bar alcohol selection looked good, but didn't try it. Before we could even order, the place starting filling up and there were only two young ladies working the entire place. Our waitress Izzi was nice and helpful, but we quickly noticed they were not staffed to accommodate a rush two days after Christmas. Izzi apologized for the slow service/experience and was running around everywhere, but still numerous visitors came and left after not being greeted at the hostess stand or being told about a wait. It took us a long time to order drinks and even longer to get them and order food. As far as the food - We ordered large hot Sake and it was OK, but nothing great. Appetizer of Edamame was possibly the highlight of the day-great - simple but tasty. We decided to share Seashore Roll, Oishii Roll, Toro Roll and Chicken Fried Rice. After almost 40 mins we were told they were out of the Tuna (Toro Roll), so received a simple Salmon roll instead (price adjusted). The Oishii Roll was good but the other items were very very plain and we wouldn't order again. Overall Seashore Roll, Salmon Roll and even Chicken Fried Rice were average.I hope for the team's benefit here that we caught them on a bad day and they weren't ready for a full house or even a busy day. I'm not sure we will go back given we had a average, at best, adventure for our first visit. Too many other great places in the area.

Had to take a day before writing this... left with such a frustrating experience I needed a time to chill.Food was ok, not great... but the service was extremely frustrating. Came in just before 5 on a Thursday. Restaurant had 4 tables seated. Took 5+ minutes to be seated after initially being greeted. After being seated, it was another 10 minutes before the server/bartender returned to take our drink order, we asked if we could order. We ordered scallion pancakes, crab wonton, edamame, buckeye roll and two more rolls.25-30 minutes pass and we've not seen the waitress. We notice our food sitting in the window for 5+ minutes. Another 10 minutes pass before I head to the bar to ask if someone can check on our food. The server immediately return with our apps from the window. Returns minutes later with our rolls. Claims the kitchen was backed up because they had received 7 hibachi orders. I'm fine with them getting busy, but we could see our food was sitting in the window for 15 minutes. At this point I'm just highly annoyed, server disappears again until we're done eating. No water refills, we had to ask for soy sauce dishes. The sushi was not worth this hassle.I know we weren't the only ones. The table of 6 there before us were audibly frustrated, to the point I believe they were comped something. It wasn't busy, they were staffed adequately, there wasn't an abundance of carry out... it was just bad service. Disappointing.

Loved Oishii! I hope that the quality remains this way for years to come! I've been able to take a few family members here for a nice sushi treat and we are always extremely satisfied with the fresh huge cuts of fish for their sushi and sashimi. Great diversity in fish choices especially given the fact that we are in the middle of Ohio! The staff is so helpful and kind, always willing to ask to see if they can accommodate menu switches. The interior is brightly lit and spacious. Despite it getting more popular, they've still ensured the experience and quality have remain top notch! I will be coming back for sure!

I really debated making this review, as I've been a huge fan of Oishii since they opened. I go multiple times a month, but my recent two visits this month have been highly disappointing. If the owners do not make appropriate changes, I'm concerned that they are going to start losing a lot of loyal customers. Service has definitely been slower than usual lately and they seem more understaffed than ever before. Tonight it took our table of three 2 hours to eat. I really give the staff props because they are trying their very best and are always very kind! My biggest concerns are the recent decreases in quality. One simple-to-fix issue...the cups. It is off-putting when the black coating is flaking off onto your table in huge chunks. If it was my first time visiting, it would not be a good first impression or reflection of what is to come with my meal. Now the food - I'm not sure if it is a supplier issue or because Oishii has recently gained a lot of fame on Instagram....but I have noticed significant changes in the past two months. The dragon eggs were less than half the size they usually are...sure avocados might be out of season atm and your supplier is delivering smaller avocados...but there are ways to still get your customers the quality and quantity they are expecting. Going from 6 bites per piece to 2 and paying the same just doesn't sit well. Consider pulling the item from the menu temporarily if you're unable to provide consistency. The wasabi was dry like clay and discolored. The rolls have been very inconsistent in size lately. Sometimes rolled or cut uneven as well. Just not the quality I am used to from Oishii. I will say the Buckeye Roll is absolutely delicious, a great special atm. Again, I love you Oishii!! I want you to thrive & be around for a long time. I want to see you successfully navigate whatever issues are causing this noticeable decrease in quality.

Went into Oishii as we were in the area. We used to come here when it was Jeni's many times, so it was nice to see they nicely renovated it to have more seating space. We got the rock shrimp and scallion pancakes for appetizers. The rock shrimp was our favorite. We loved the sauce, but wish there was more of it on the shrimp. The scallion pancakes were good, it was like an Indian paratha and came with a tamarind sauce. We ordered a roll and chicken hibachi to share as our entrees. The kiss of fire roll was not that spicy. We liked it, but not our favorite. The hibachi we thought was good, but would have liked a little more sauce. Overall a nice place, but took a star off because the service was not up to par that day. We had to flag down our server to get plates, straws, and water refills. There was not that many people at the time we went for an early dinner, so that was a bit disappointing.

Oishii is a super cute place in Powell that serves up a great menu of options. I have personally only tried the sushi, but have been with people who ordered other items and said they were good as well. On my first visit I was elated to find they offer soy paper for any roll! For some reason I just can't eat seaweed, the texture is horrible. I ordered two rolls and asked for the avocado to be left off as that is another thing I just don't like. When they arrived, they both clearly had avocado on them. I was able to pick it off but I then lost all of the sauce/toppings that were on top of them. Our server came back and asked if I didn't like avocado and I said yes I asked for them without and she had completely forgotten I said that. When she took our orders she didn't write anything down which always makes me nervous. I would say I almost never get my order correct when they don't write it down. On my second visit I tried some of the simple rolls and preferred those over the lavish ones with lots of inclusions. I don't find myself in Powell often but I would return if I am in that area.

This little gem in Powell is amazing. The food was amazing, the staff was super personable and the atmosphere was welcoming. We started with the Sake flight and Dragon Eggs. The Sake flight had 6 tastings of very different types of Sake and each one was better than the next. The Dragon Eggs are 4 unbelievably tasty stuffed and fried avocados. So balanced and flavorful. We then had Futomaki, Dragon and Seashore rolls. I just can't even fully put into words how tasty, balanced and flavorful they were. The absolute best part was the staff. They were funny, kind, knowledgeable and just nice people. Next time we come back to the Columbus, we are coming back here. If you live close, you have a hidden gem and you should be eating here.
