My husband and I took the free Ohio Governor's Residence and Gardens tour this morning. Our docent, Anne, was excellent, and the house and gardens are well worth seeing. I'm looking forward to returning next spring to see the flowering trees and tulips. To make a reservation for the tour, visit http://www.governorsresidence.ohio.gov/home.aspx.

So, tell me again why Kasich is not living in one of the most beautiful homes in Columbus which is already geared to housing the governor?

This is a great place to tour both the public spaces of the mansion and heritage garden. The mansion is open for tours most Tuesdays at 9am, 1030am, noon, 130pm, and 3pm. Tours are free but you have to schedule one at least two weeks in advance. That's my only gripe. I like to be spontaneous when I play tourist in my own town. The best time to go is in the spring or summer to really enjoy the garden. The front lawn features towering trees and a rock garden that represents the geology of Ohio. As you enter the back garden there are stepping stones made up of the bedrock from the county etched into it. The back garden is landscaped to give a short tour of the ecology of Ohio. My favorite is the reconstructed dune with lakeshore plants that were actually cultivated from the beaches of Lake Eerie.I've also had the honor of attending two special events at this Bexley landmark, both extremely breathtaking.Get some friends together and spend the day in Bexley. Ohioans come from all over the state to view the plant collections and we have them right here...take advantage of it!
