They put on another beautiful Gifts of the Craftsmen holiday market this year. I love the variety of all the items and it is always a great place to find very unique gifts. The volunteers do such a good job, as it does get crowded. The prices did seem noticeably higher this year, but it looks like they are hosting an after holiday sale. The Ohio designer craftsmen also host an art studio clearance sale at the Expo Center in February.

Didn't realize this place existed! Family from out of town new about it and wanted to go.There's 3 gift shops all with artists works for sale. The place was in between displays so there was little art on display. This place is associated with Winterfair for Columbus and Cincinnati.Anxious to go back again to see their new exhibits.

Beautiful displays of art from artists and crafters throughout the state. They have a main gallery upstairs and a few classrooms downstairs. The facility is handicapped friendly and my mom who has a wheelchair was able to enjoy herself. The displays were varied. They rotate what they display. The staff was very friendly and engaging. My 7 year old was with me and they provided her with a scavenger hunt sheet- invited her to attend future art classes- gave her stickers. I also liked that there were 2 spaces devoted to selling artists' work. The prices were reasonable and the items were unique and would add to anyone's collection or decor at home.

Nice, but quite small craft museum. While well kept, there just isnt that much to look at, making it hard to justify a special trip. A good place to kill 20 minutes if you're nearby.

Small craft and art museum located a little east of OSU. It's free but donations are welcomed. Mostly what's on display are works by local craftspeople, but it's apparent these folks are talented. Some weavers, sculptors, quilters, etc. Good gift shop if you want one of a kind items. Located on a street full of antiques, this makes for a delightful afternoon of strolling.

This is a nice small museum that features a large gallery space for the current exhibit and three small rooms featuring a wide variety of art produced by local Ohio artists for purchase. The current exhibit through October 3 is "Crossover: Trends in Paper." It's fascinating to see everything that can be made from paper, including clothing, nightlights, and more! The gift shop rooms include a ton of neat things to look at: clothes, jewelry, cards, wall hangings, stuffed animals, and the like. The staff is friendly, entry is free (donations welcome), and there is a small free parking lot on the side of the building.

As stated by those before me, the name is quite deceiving. The very term "craft" to me conjurs up images of pieces inspired by Pinterest. That is definitely not what I found. The pieces on display were clearly created by highly skilled artists in a variety of mediums, everything from paper to glass to metal. Some pieces are for sale and for reasonable price points considering the time & talent investment. This is a bit of a hidden gem in that my boyfriend lives just a few miles away and we've passed by it for years completely unaware of its existence. It is now on my radar and I will be sure to add it to my regular gallery rotation. There is parking along the side of the building, but that can fill quickly for events.

At the Ohio Craft Museum I was half expecting to see exhibits of something like knitting or craft things you'd find at JoAnn's. I should have known better, being an artist. The exhibit was The Infinite Teapot. Teapots were all over the place and in every imaginable medium from common ones like clay and metal to less conventional ones like glass and thorny vines.Besides teapots, there was photography, screen printing and handmade jewelry. The Ohio Craft Museum was put together by the Ohio Arts Council by money from taxes and is for the purpose of encouraging growth, economically but also in knowledge and cultural understanding from education. Kudos for supporting the arts and local artists! Membership is available for individuals and families. The individual membership is an annual cost of $20 and the family cost is only $5 more and includes a host of benefits such as free admission to events like Columbus and Greater Cincinnati Winterfairs, discounts on tickets and registrations for more events, previewing for Gifts of the Craftsmen, and early notification of exhibitions and education programs. The museum also hosts craft making events. For example, on February 1, 2009 artist Tracy Reiger led children supervised by adults in a Mad Hatter's Tea Party where they created funny hats like the mad hatter would wear. The museum is normally closed on the weekends, but during exhibitions it is open on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm.

Maybe I had my hopes up too high. I'm not sure what I expected from this industrial-looking building on 5th Avenue near Grandview. I typically dig museums a great deal. I was excited by the confirmation that the Ohio Craft Museum has more to do with the work of actual craftspeople than say, arts & crafts fairs. This "museum" houses mostly pottery, which doesn't really do it for me. There were also a lot of marbles. Weird. There just didn't seem to be much here.Perhaps if I were in a different mood, I might have enjoyed the Ohio Craft Museum more.
