My friends lunch
Whole fryer chicken for just $8 and they cut it for me!
a plate of food

Recently got a whole fryer chicken for $8 and they cut it up for you. Not much needs to be said to be honest. They have very fresh, high quality chicken (and rabbit, duck, bison, turkey, venison and more that I haven't tried YET). You can get whole chickens, boneless/skinless breasts, airline style breasts, wings, ground chicken- basically anything your heart desires, and it's all reasonably priced. Obviously everything is a bit more than say Kroger or Walmart but the quality more than makes up for the extra $1-2 you might have to pay! Also the staff was very helpful when I went and bagged my whole cut up chicken extremely well and safely.

Working in the North Market, I get asked a lot about what is good to eat. Well, damn near everything, of course- but I usually point them down to North Market Poultry & Game's Kitchen Little. "It's the best food in Columbus!" I say, feeling fairly secure in my pronouncement.See, I've never shopped at NMPG itself- the meat counter- but I have learned the not-very-well kept secret that is Kitchen Little. That unassuming little glass case holds a king's ransom of flavors. It's embarrassingly hard to pick what to eat from day to day.You can't go wrong here, but a few of my go-to staples are the meatloaf (usually chicken or turkey, always delicious, moist, and perfect), the chicken cutlet whose fried-chicken appearance hides untold wealth of flavor, or the chicken and waffles- the aforementioned chicken cutlet on a Taste of Belgium waffle, drowning in Frank's Red Hot Sauce (if you're smart about it).People like to throw around the phrase "home cooked" but if you cook food this good in your home, you need to marry me. This is food that exemplifies Columbus- unpredictable, amazing, local, and responsible. Throw in the friendly staff, the sampling, and the general atmosphere of the Market- which I love- and you have a winning combination. It's been said before by writers far more professional than I, and they were right: if Kitchen Little was its own stand-alone restaurant somewhere in town, it'd be a sensation. As it is, I kind of like the homey, back-kitchen feel. This is food that will forever change your overall opinion of prepared food counters, even if you already think highly of them. And, yeah, do yourself a favor and get some o' them good duck fat fries. You won't even need ketchup- it'd just ruin the flavor. The only complaint I can muster is that sometimes people get there before I do and buy up all the best stuff. That's definitely an acceptable loss for me- because it means Kitchen Little is getting the attention it so richly deserves!

Always get great service and great product. The "Chicken Little" prepared foods is also fan-freaking-tastic. The mac and cheese is creamy and flavorful and bison lasagna had great texture and just the right amount of spice to it.

North Market Poultry & Game offers an incredible selection of high-quality meats, has friendly and knowledgable butchers and every time I leave I feel like I have made a responsible purchase. Not only are they local, but you can also just taste the difference. Their animals are not pumped full of hormones and they aren't trying to sell you 1 pound chicken breasts. This is REAL stuff, folks. It's actually kind of scary going to a chain grocery store and realizing the size difference alone between something that has been raised naturally and something mass-produced in who knows what kind of conditions.Prices are a little higher than Kroger or Giant Eagle, but again - the taste is worth it. Chicken has never tasted so chicken-y! Ground bison has never been so flavorful! Etc, etc... I was lucky enough to get not only one, but TWO thanksgiving dinners with North Market Poultry & Game Turkeys as the star of the meal. Not sure why bf's mother decided on 20 pounders for 5 people, but hey-got my fill!If you can stop by this vendor in North Market, do yourself a favor and get a variety of things to take home. They have your typical cuts but they also offer some less-than-typical meats (venison- and I think once I saw elk?). They have some odds and ends that I never how people use, but i bet they could tell ya. They also have some pre-made burgers that are awesome and come with mixed in flavors like Chipotle and Red Pepper Basil. I don't eat a ton of meat, but I'm pretty sure when I do it should always be from here.

Some of the best chicken you'll find in Columbus! This is my go-to spot to buy chicken and eggs. It's all local and naturally-raised, the prices are reasonable, and everything tastes amazing. And the employees are always super-helpful and give great tips!

Whatever issues NMPG had with pricing have been fixed since they've rebranded themselves as Kitchen Little. The offerings are better than ever, especially on Saturday mornings when they do brunch items. The chicken and waffles are to die for! Make sure to follow them on Twitter to keep abreast of any specials.

The top for comfort food. I love the chicken meatloaf. Gotta get it every three weeks or so. I should say I was nearly meatloafed to death as a kid, so falling back in love with meatloaf is an achievement. The cassoulet is great. I tried the wild boar once and it was super rich so eat small portions with potatoes or rice. The side dishes are always pretty good. The only thing that didn't thrill me was the brisket with veggies. Just fair.

Oh Kitchen Little. I wish that I could keep you a secret forever and ever and never share you with the world, but you do a pretty good job of that yourself so I guess a review couldn't hurt. This food is better than my grandma's and that is seriously saying something. The chicken meatloaf is the perfect blend of savory and sweet, and if you're lucky and catch them on bison meatloaf day it's even better than the chicken. SO GOOD. So many veggies and flavors and-- seriously, it's just indescribably good. And if you aren't in the mood for meatloaf, most days you can get chicken and waffles, with waffles from Taste of Belgium, and again-- descriptions fail me. It was sweet and savory and the chicken was perfectly done.Oh! And the sides! I haven't even gotten to them yet and my mouth is watering. Duck fat fries (sound odd but taste AMAZING) and mashed potatoes that swim in a homemade chicken gravy. The greens are tasty too, slightly sour and textured perfectly. The only bad thing about Kitchen Little (and I refuse to deduct a star for this) is their hours. They aren't open in the evenings, so you have to get to the North Market for brunch or lunch if you want a taste! Now go!

I love this place. The employees are friendly and the meat is so far beyond the quality that you can get at the grocery store that it is unreal. Even if you are on a budget you can get chicken backs for 99 cents a pound and make a delicious soup. I also get the chicken necks at 99 cents a pound and cut them into small pieces for my little doggies (it's good for their health & teeth to chew raw bones... it has also improved their doggie breath considerably). Thanks, you guys. Stay awesome.

The best, quick lunch you can get. I'm sure of it. I have been eating at Kitchen Little once a week for the past few weeks. Roasted chicken breast, glazed carrots, and mashed potatoes? Yes, please. Not only that, but the meat counter is great! I've been buying all my poultry at the counter for the past month, and it is so great. Much better than the stuff I had been buying at my local grocery store!
