i rent my place form these guys. Or this guy I guess... Jason. From what I can tell he is the only guy that actually works (and "work" may be a bit of an overstatement) here besides a few maintenance guys and some silent investment partner people. Jason is not the easiest guy to get a hold of sometimes, and often it takes a fistful of calls and perhaps even a personal visit to get something done (like my small retaining wall which the jackalope neighbors keep hitting with their cars. It's been laying in my yard for a few months now).Yes, I still gave them 4 stars. I love my place. I am considering taking a job overseas, and actually keeping my place here while I am gone. It's that cheap and I know that when I move back here in 12 - 18 months I will want my old place back (plus I won't have to move anything!). I can't tell you about all their properties but with the exposed brick in every room and hardwood down and carpet upstairs, this is the best looking place I've had since moving out of the 'rents house, many many moons ago.

I've been undergoing an apartment search and on my journey encountered some New Victorians' properties. As I've been leaving reviews at past places on varying sites, The New Victorians definitely deserves my time.I rented from Jason for five years, transitioning from one place to another after a year. When we were originally looking for somewhere, Jason had sold my friend and I on a two-story place that was way bigger than we needed. As such, I moved with another buddy to a place smaller and much more our style. It was absolutely wonderful staying there and we had quiet/friendly neighbors the entire time. However, the first note of shady business was when we forgot to drop off the rent one month. We always got our payments in within the 3-day period set on our lease, but did understand that we would get a fine because we violated it. Thus Jason decided that any day we got in our check after business hours he would try and charge us for, sending us a bill for over 300 bucks. Now after he tried this I called in and claimed we would simply pay for the month we were late to which he actually did comply. He knew we weren't trouble and we rarely had to call for issues / if he had this issue he needed to address it on the first incident (again, these was still in on the third day). However, after moving out we experienced what many people on here have expressed: the imminent, absurd, and overcharged maintenance claims that not only took our deposits, but also tacked on a good 250 bucks. Claims were made about the shower floor - which was already old when we moved in as the apartment had not had residents in a couple years - paint - which you already have to do before someone moves in again - and random charges. We were charged for holes in the wall. At worst my friend put in some thumbtacks and I had filled 4 holes from my floating shelves.I've jumped all over the place in Columbus, from private owners to apartment complexes. Jason knows how to rip you off. It's a shame because even with the prior incident I actually thought he was pretty nice. Now? I'd live in a dump before succumbing to New Victorians.

If I could give them zero stars I would. Dishonest, you will never get your safety deposit back and you will likely be charged with many many fees. Run far far far away. It's not worth it.

Jason is by far the most unhelpful and rude man I have ever tried to work with in real estate. I would not rent from this man for business or personal based solely on his attitude. He should consider leveraging simple and socially acceptable terms like "thank you for you interest" or "how can I help you" when communicating with current or potential renters. It might go a long way for him. Don't expect any level of customer service from New Victorians. It is too bad because some really nice places in Columbus are owned by this company.

I am basing this review on my experience trying to rent an apartment from them. I scheduled a viewing for an apartment in Hull Alley during my lunch with Jason. He no showed. I arrived on time and after 10 minutes I called and got no response. I left a message. I waited another 10 minutes before leaving. I have not received a call back regarding the showing. Working with New Victorians is not worth your time. Based on the other Yelp reviews, however, it seems like I was lucky not to sign a lease for one of their apartments. So maybe I at least owe Jason a thank you for being so up front about his unreliability.

I rented a little place from the New Victorians in Italian Village for a little over a year. It was the nicest place I had ever rented. With exposed brick, hardwood floors and modern updates you couldnt beat it for the price. Everything was okay until it was time to move out. They slapped me with a $1400 fine for all sorts of ridiculousness. Being the good tenent that I was, I always kept the place clean and neat. There was nothing broken, no damages, we even spent a couple of days cleaning (vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning kitchen and bath, magic erasing any scuff marks, etc..). Everything was in order when I left. WRONG!The new vics charged me HUGE fines for A) not washing the outsides of the windows B) Dirt on the range hood and atop the fridge C) mold in my shower that was there when I moved in D) repainting the entire apartment without reason ( the walls were very clean) E) supposedly not cleaning the kichen or bath (which I did)F) they charged like 50 dollars or something to sweep ( which I had also already done)Now i have to eat that money because I signed a lease stating that I was ok with being charged 75 dollars to clean the tub, 15 to wipe the range hood, 25 per window, etc...So MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FINE PRINT ON THE LEASE and dont sign anything that seems unreasonable because they will charge you for anything and everything. If you ask me they are (like most rental realty companies) unethical and downright crooks. Do not plan on getting your deposit back unless you hire a cleaning service before turning in your keys. And even then, there are no guarantees.

Shocking, terrible.Rented an apartment for in the Short North through Jason R. Rowland at New Victorians. Throughout the whole year Jason was terrible at responding to our service requests: floor board on the front porch was broken the whole year (dangerous) and never fixed it, never fixed the latch on the upstairs bathroom door, never replaced the florescent light bulb in the kitchen (we would have replaced ourselves but it was an irregular fixture), and after our apartment was broken into we demanded he put security bars over the window in order to have some sense of safety at the place we live; after a painful month and a half of struggling to make contact with Jason and finally threatening to escrow our rent he reluctantly had them installed. As was stated by other reviews, Jason ended up charging us absurd fees upon move-out, even ended up owing him $50. We always kept the place clean and in good order, no significant damages except maybe a few nail holes in the wall. Had we known he would exploit us with these charges the way he did we would have been WAY more thorough with the move-in report. He charged $400 for painting (which he says he's going to do anyway so either way you're getting screwed), he charged for a light bulb burning out, dirty sink (which was dirty before we moved it), the dangerous broken floor board on the front porch (which was broken before we moved in, and which we spent the whole year living with), not cleaning the outside windows (which we did because we were warned by users on Yelp), and much much more... seriously, I could go on but you get the picture.I've been renting apartments for the past 7 years and Jason is far and away the worst landlord I've ever dealt with. We always paid rent on time and took good care of the unit, but from the beginning Jason demonstrated a complete lack of interest in the well being of his tenants. I really just want to warn people to avoid renting from him, or at least tell people to keep these things in mind and make your own adjustments to the lease. You've been warned, best of luck.

I have never written a review for anything until now. Jason Rowland is one of the most dishonest people I have ever delt with. We asked for 5+ things to be repaired multiple times. Two were probably fixed with half ass jobs and then Jason charged us for them when we moved out of the apartment. The perfect example is they were trying to sell the house and put one those key locks on the door. It ended up ripping of the door handle and when they repaired it they used the wrong size door knob and didn't fully attach it. When we moved out we were charged for a new handle and lock. After reading other reviews we made sure to mop and clean the outside of every window. We still got charged $300 for window cleaning and $150 for mopping.I would never recommend anyone ever doing business with Jason Rowland. He is dishonest and a miserable person to work with.

Jason charged us over $500 upon move-out for normal wear and doesn't return phone calls. Will never do business with them again.

I lived in one of their properties for 2 years. I loved the property but Jason made it much less pleasant. He is horrible at responding to your services requests (email and calling). When we moved out, we offered to patch up the nail holes and even paint the entire place. Jason's response was that was not necessary since they had to paint for the new tenants themselves. Then why were we slapped with a several hundred dollar painting fee!? We tried bringing this up to him and he finally responded back to us... 5 months after we moved out (and we still didn't get a refund)! We thoroughly cleaned the apartment before moving out and we got close to nothing back on our deposits.
