This is a STEM school. I've been able to get in here to substitute teach, and I love it! The students are highly encouraged to use their creative juices - a lot of writing assignments, group projects, etc. This school uses computers for most all assignments. It is a rather small "school" - students spend the day in a once-used office building. All the teachers are great here, too! I'm glad I get the chance to interact while here.

DONT send your kids to metro. 1. a student in this this school (ms side) is being FAVORED when she is the problem, today they just talked to most of us about how she is being bullied and teased but we are the ones being bullied. she throws pencils, smacks people with her lanyard, rulers, markers, ect. She thinks someone is teasing her into something she does not like and harming people with anything into her sight. 2. As i know of, a STAFF MEMBER will NOT let you go to the bathroom in her class and most teachers put a time limit on you to go to the bathroom. 3. Students who have mental health issues or distract other students DO NOT get handled the right way. 4. They would racially motivate some students, ignore them, and treat them different than other students but once we say something about the problem we will get detention or suspended for "talking back" 5. They will send you out for recess and it could be snowing, raining, or below freezing and we can be outside and we have to sit on the GROUND in order to go inside and it could be wet and they don't care.

While being funded by both OSU and our tax money, this school is sub-par for it's offering. I put my child in this school for one year, and found that not only were the teachers a bit aloof, but the school in general relies heavily on student and parent input. There are no lockers, there is no bona fide physical education, and most courses require that the student and/or parent either purchase classroom materials or find an alternative way to provide those tools for themselves. There is no cafeteria, and students are encouraged to purchase food out of vending machines if they don't have what they need in their lunchboxes. One would be better served to lottery into an adjacent school district with better schools, or to simply use CPS's best schools available and lottery into those programs.Oh, and last year's yearbooks aren't even available yet.

Excellent school for the serious student. Metro is a public STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) school, for grades 6 to 12 (taxpayer money is well spent on this school). They work them hard at Metro, but my kids love it.

I am going to go into a full rant here, so please listen carefully. Metro is a school that is special and keeps the mastery system in high regard. As NINETY PERCENT of these other reviews will tell you, this is all a facade. One, The mastery system would've been a good idea if most of the teachers used it better. Lots of students see this as an easy way out, as someone who has been at this school since 6th grade, I could agree. Second, there are lots of creepy students that don't get taken care of. The amount of times I have experienced some form of harassment or threats and verbal abuse here is insane, and I have finally given up on the admin helping me. All they will do in these situations is have a talk with the person and let them go. This just causes even more tension and problems, so to add to a third reason, they can't take care of crap. I'm not someone who talks about my feelings like this, but the amount of mental issues I have experienced here goes beyond what I can comprehend. I have seen and heard other reviews saying that after they left this school, they weren't as depressed, and I am here to say that this is probably true. Being here, you have so much stress of the social and academic life on your shoulders. In such a cramped place with not that many kids, a reputation can get destroyed so fast. For example, today in one 1.5-hour class, I was given an 11-page doc "worksheet" that's due tonight, along with a test and another quiz that was also sent as homework. This isn't even including the remediation or studying I had to do, and that is one class, in one day, at 8 am. It has gotten to the point where I am not getting enough sleep because I have to study so much, but then I can't focus anyway because I didn't sleep. I will now come home at 4 pm and go straight to bed. When I say this school is the most mentally drained I have ever been, I truly mean it. Most of the teachers also don't care. Some care more than others, but from my experience, it's only the fresh and very new ones. I will say, this school opens up a lot of opportunities, but also gives such a bad mental idea of failing. At Metro, although they say it's not, all students feel as though a WIP is an F, so it adds this extra guilt for going down. Plus the fact that they will make you redo a class for a single assignment not being 90% is just sad. Although it's a lot more complicated, I won't get into that too much. If you want your kids to live out their childhood or at least live to the fullest, DO NOT send them to metro. I can personally say that I have changed so much to the point I just lash out for no reason and I can't do anything anymore. Not to point out that there isn't a single sport or real extracurricular. THis might open up new opportunities, but you are quite literally sending your kid into hell. This school sucks, don't go here, do not send anyone here, DO NOT RECOMMEND, this is just a sad waste of money at this point.

underwhelming is an understatement, it just got walls last year, no lockers, no gym, sports aren't even really an option, a disgrace to osu, you're better off sending your child to any other school.

Hate the school the teachers don't care about the students they only care if you pass the class or not they are really strict in dress code and will give you multiple detentions for it also if you have enough you WILL get suspended people have been getting bullied and the adults don't seem to care they never really handle the situation correctly and decide that a detention or a suspension should fix it. Kids have mental health issues after going to this school it gives stress and the teachers always be saying "I don't care" when it comes to someone calling someone else names and they dare to continue class like it wasn't a big deal. I had an issue where they took my phone away just because I was checking the time because there arnt any clocks and we allowed to be on iPads at that time. Also there's no walls whatsoever the teachers always complain about how the class is being loud and dare to give whole class detentions even though it was the classroom next door. There is a lot of fights and hair pulling and what to do is give the student a suspension and not even solve the problem the right way like trying to them get along. Multiple students in this school don't feel like they have a trusted adult to talk to about their problems. This school is full of children who need a healthy environment, who need trusted adults when their having issues, Also metro has students acting like animals in that school and don't do anything about it metro really tricked me with saying their school is friendly, saying that their a good schoolDONT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE THEY CAN END UP WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND WILL COMPLAIN ABOUT BULLYING HAPPENING

So let's begin the story. I am an 8th grade Metro student, hence I have the most understanding on how this school works. So trust me when I say... This school sucks... terribly. Why? Well, let's start with the defining aspect of this school, the mastery system. This system seems, from the outside, to be a way to make sure children fully understand the content before moving on. But it puts a false beliefs in students minds, I would know, because I went through this as many others have. Since you have to get a 90% or you get a WIP (work in progress (which equivalents to an F, in many students minds)) they developed a remediation system to allow kids to get mastery even after "failing." Because of this, students use this to their advantage. They don't try the first time, since they can just remediate it later. And the remediation process is usually easier than the base assignment. So in a nutshell, the remediation system, one idea that could have been good, but executed poorly... sucks.Another point is dress code. The normal dress code makes decent sense, but the Wellness (PE) dress code is... confusing. We have been told by the members of administration that blue, white, and green are "not colors". I have asked around to find out why such a weird dress code was set into play. But no one, teachers and students alike, could tell me a reliable answer. So between the many kids defying dress code, to the mysteries of the Wellness dress code, I have concluded, dress code... sucks. There are many more points that I could address about this school, but then I would just be wasting you time that you could be spending finding a new school for your child.

Fur K thru 8 your best bet is St.Mary's on Third the school is private but if you live in Columbus Public school district you qualify for the ED Award Or Ed Choice funding for payment. It is the best school in the downtown area.
