La Matraca Mexican Grill & Cantina

This Mexican restaurant is a gem! It is well lit and the service is excellent! I am visiting on a Saturday at lunch time. I ordered a 3 choice option with a chicken enchilada, beef taco and a handmade tamale. Everything is very tasty. Chips and salsa come with the meal which is great There are too many Mexican restaurants in Delaware but I have to say, this one ranks number one!

I'm tossed up about this place...The interior is very cool - we'll literally, clean, layed out right, great menu, and all the bells. We had fajitas for 2 which was awesome. That part of our experience was really good... The service was horrible - the waiter was a nice guy but he was not the least bit attentive - take the drink order and disappear for 10 minutes, bring the drinks and disappear for 10 minutes, take the food order, somebody brings the food out, and we don't see him until we are standing at the Check in asking for the bill... really disappointed because there are so many other other good mexican restaurants in the area, you would think that they would be on top of their game.

So, stop waiting until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until winter, until your song comes on, until you've had a drink.... there is no better time than right now to be happy.

We had fish tacos, refried beans and rice-they were fabulous! The chips were definitely made in house with a very different salsa- both were great also! Get there early before crowd arrives to bar next door and gets all the parking spots!

SOOOO GOOOOD!! I had the quesabirria and I'm already thinking about when I can go back. Alcohol is a little pricey but the flavored margaritas were the best I've ever had. (I personally had the house marg which was also )The owner stopped by our table with a treat and went out of his way to make us all smile. The server brought extra fruit out for our kids. Little things added up and we felt very taken care of. All food was correct and arrived at a decent time.

3.5/5 Stars OverallCame on a Tuesday during prime dinner rush. Establishment looked clean, we were sat right away. Was not as loud as we anticipated based on reviews and friends telling us about the indoor volume. Family friendly from what I saw. Not sure if there is a changing table in restrooms. Did not sit in the bar area. Service was fine. 3.5/53.75/5 Food was good but didn't blow us away. Decent portions and ok pricing. Vegetarian Fajitas and Taquitos were fine but nothing out of the ordinary. Would return to try other dishes. As far as timing on food we didn't notice anything "slow" but it wasn't fast. ~ 20 minutes for entrees. Tableside Guacamole was incredible. I definitely give that 5 stars. 4/5 Drinks were fine. We ordered their regular lime margaritas and enjoyed them. There is no Happy Hour here. Would return to try more items on the menu or strictly for margaritas and Tableside guac.

Huge loud place. Tons of fast seating. The kitchen however is incredibly slow. They weren't that busy and we waited 30 minutes for food. Apologetic server. Not her fault. Food is mediocre for Mexican. Kinda fast food bland dishes that aren't fast. So there's that. Chicken on the salad incredibly salty. Couldn't eat it. Enchiladas are boring. 4 supposed different enchiladas. Other than texture zero taste difference between them. Skip this place in my opinion.

Asked for a table, hostess put us in a booth. We would have had to move across the restaurant if we moved ourselves. Ordered meals. Asked a question about my meal. With dinner they brought out $9 cheese dip. The meal came with cheese dip. I don't know why the appetizer dip was brought out too. After a half hour of sitting there with cocktails, the server came back to the table to take our order a second time. The common thread is no employee that provided service to us spoke a common language. Meal was incorrect, service impossibly slow, disorganized, and language battier.Upside: food was good, large portions and Mojitos were delicious.

This location of La Matraca is recently opened, I've never been to the other location so nothing to compare it to. We stopped by on a Saturday, evening. It wasn't too busy. The restaurant is pretty spacious with booths and tables and it looks like they will have a small patio. Also the bar area was pretty large on the other side of the restaurant kind of separated. On the day we went they were not yet serving alcohol but hopefully next visit we'll be able to try one of the many options. The staff were super friendly and service was quick. They have a pretty large menu with plenty of options from classic items to specialty items I haven't seen elsewhere. There are also vegetarian options. The food was really good. I tried the quesabirrias, they were very flavorful. The tortillas were super soggy but otherwise a very good meal. My husband got La matraca fajitas, the seasoning and flavor was on point. We really enjoyed the fajitas. Also pictured is the choripollo that a friend ordered, she thought it was great and a good portion. Overall I would say the portions were very good sized and everything was flavorful. I will definitely come back! Glad to have another option in Delaware.

Drinks set them apart! Really good atmosphere very nice and clean. Food was great too!
