My son has been going here for the last year and he loves it. There is definitely a feeling of community here. Parking can be a pain sometimes because it is a busy center but not impossible.

We decided to try this studio out for my daughter (who is 5) for the summer. They had a great special which was $69 for 6 weeks of classes plus the uniform. It's a great way to try this program to see if your child will enjoy it or not.The instructors are INCREDIBLY patient! Our daughter is used to being in preschool and things like this, but this is obviously even more structured than that. I feel that she is learning some really valuable life lessons as well. She is being taught how to respect others, how to listen better, how to try and sit still, and how to raise her hand before speaking. All of these things are great life lessons, as she is going to have to get used to acting this way when she starts kindergarten as well.I am hoping that she continues to progress. She has good days and bad days (where is she is just wild in class). The instructors don't lose their temper, which is amazing to me..... they just continue teaching the class leaving discipline and discussions to happen at home vs. in class. They are also very good at instructing for anti-bullying and increases your child's confidence in dealing with bullies (if this happens etc). I think that it is a smart program to atleast try with your child.

Skilled and patient instructors, a relatively clean and spacious training area (dojang), kickboxing, Tang Soo Do, aerials, weapons training, classes for adults and elite students, lots of classes and events for kids, and an excellent reputation in the community make Koguryo Martial Arts THE school of choice for MMA training or fitness training.

I am so happy we chose this academy. It has taught and continues to teach our young boys respect, self-control, and focus and the instructors/masters of the art are so incredibly patient, understanding and make it fun for the kids. I would highly recommend it!

This is a great place to train. I've never been one for gyms but was looking for a way to stay in shape while in college when I found this studio. Koguryo was great for that. Everyone was friendly but would push you to strive for more. To not phone it in. And when I left town for an internship, they worked with me on the contract as well. This place is great and I highly recommend it.

Koguryo was a good place to train....until the owner started getting rid of some of the instructors that the kids loved because of jealously issues. Then the entire dynamic of the place changed when the block curriculum came into play. Everyone was being tested every 2-3 months whether if they were ready or not to test resulting in a lot of people failing and having to take makeup testing; wasting time, and money, as well as drawing instructors away from scheduled class times. Also, the owner/head master can be sadistic and egotistical and hurts people when they get into higher ranking class. He believes that it's a right of passage. He is also short tempered, belittles his students when the tide does not go his way. In my opinion he does NOT need to be working with children of any age or development level. Furthermore, The headmaster does not instill trust or values into his students, as he also uses scare tactics to teach his students. He instills fear and aggression into their young minds. In conclusion, I give this establishment a 2 star rating because of the owners lack of professionalism, inexperience with children of all walks of life, and immaturity that the head master illustrates. Thats not to mention that his main focus shifted from teaching life skills to making more money.

My boys absolutely LOVE Koguryo! They tried one class and were hooked. I especially like the convenience of the classes being offered 5 days a week at different times. The Masters and instructors are extremely patient with the children and make learning martial arts fun. Having twin 5 year olds, I also appreciate the respect, responsibility, self-control and self-confidence they are learning....along with a great way to burn some of that energy they have!

My oldest son started at this facility in August of 2008, followed by my other three children as they got older and showed an interest. We thought it was a great facility for quite a while. In July of 2013, my oldest son became a junior instructor-working M, W, F, Sa. After expanding, management began to change, it seemed customer service went down on the priority scale. Shortly thereafter (Jan 2014), the curriculum was changed, they stopped offering all levels of classes on a daily basis, started requiring attendance on A and B days, and changed the testing schedule to be on a quarterly basis instead of when the students were ready for it. If you aren't prepared for the test, you have to wait an entire calendar year before that material will be covered/tested for again. At that time, I approached the owner and asked to cancel my contract because in all the years we'd been coming there, we'd never attended the Tuesday or Thursday classes, and my children would never progress with this new curriculum. I was told that I could cancel the contract but would have to pay all of the associated fees (which made cancelling almost as expensive as the program was originally), but that as the business owner, he was completely within his rights to change the class schedule and/or curriculum any time he wanted, if he wanted to change it to classes were only held once a week on Wednesdays from 11 pm to midnight, he could, and that would not be grounds for terminating the contract without fees. The kids wanted to continue, so I let them attend for the remainder of the contract-they did not progress during this time. My oldest son continued to enjoy being a junior instructor there, and I did not want to sour his work relationship by making a big huff about the curriculum change, we just tried to fade out when our contract ended. After our contract ended, my son's hours started getting cut, he was often expected to work off the clock, and they started scheduling him to work Tuesdays and some Thursdays. Every time the schedule came out, he would find coverage for the Tuesday/Thursday shifts assigned him, and RE-tell the scheduler that he is unavailable those days (he is now also working on an internship, which is a requirement for HS graduation.) During all this time, he only received positive reinforcement regarding his work ethic from both the owner and the students' parents. Last week, due to not enough hours and wanting a job closer to home, he put in his 2 weeks notice, they cut his hours even more, (they would text while we were on the way there to drop him off to inform him of the cuts.) Tuesday, the person who had agreed to take his shift called off and couldn't make it, so after my son finished his shift on Wednesday, he was terminated and told that he had lost the respect of AND job recommendation from the owner. How did he go from being a model employee to losing a recommendation in one week? If this is how the owner treats long time customers and employees, I'd hate to see how he treats those who DON'T contribute to/support his livelihood.
