After dinner at Watershed Kitchen and Bar, my sister-in-law wanted ice cream so we went to Johnson's Real Ice Cream in Grandview. Johnson's Real Ice Cream has been around since the 1950's. They sell ice cream by the pint, ice cream by the scoop, ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream sundaes, and shakes/malts/root beer floats/smoothies. Their current flavors are Banana Fudge, Birthday Cake, Black Raspberry Chip, Blue Sky, Blueberry Pie, Buckeye Fever, Butter Pecan, Butterscotch Toffee, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cinnamon, Coconut Almond Chip, Coffee, Columbus Crunch, Cookie Dough, Cookies and Cream, Cotton Candy, Dutch Chocolate, Lemon, Mint Chocolate Chip, Moose Tracks, Praline Pecan, Raspberry Cheesecake, Strawberry, Salty Caramel Chocolate Pretzel, Triple Vanilla Bean, Vanilla, and Vanilla Chip. Each person was allowed to sample two flavors. My parents enjoyed a single scoop of Mango sorbet. My sister-in-law and I each enjoyed Cinnamon Ice Cream on a Waffle Cone.

Several Johnson's shops are popping up in the Columbus area, and you can never have too many ice cream options. Aside from the courteous staff who welcomed us and offered copious samples, I didn't have a standout experience. But the ice cream was good, and sometimes it's just as simple as that. One suggestion that I will offer is to make the ice cream visible to the customers. The various flavors are hidden under lids, so it's hard to get a visual to go with the flavor name without asking to see it. Perhaps this is done to keep the product colder and fresher, but it's an uncommon experience compared to every other parlor I've visited.

Johnson's ice cream was very good. The staff was really nice and they went out of their way to be sure I tried the flavors that I wanted and just everyone was so friendly. I got the cookies and cream in a waffle cone. The flavor was so good. The ice cream shop was very clean and very inviting. I definitely recommend if you are in the area to stop in and get some good ice cream.

The decor is instantly calming and simple but sleek. Service was speedy and accommodating. The selections are plentiful and my Death by Chocolate sundae with substitution of chocolate brownie ice cream (rather than the standard vanilla) is delicious!

Yummy!! Great classic ice cream. With competition like Jenni's and DQ right around the corner, this place speaks for itself with its great flavors. The servers were friendly so I'll be back :)

Wonderful dairy free ice cream!! It's so nice not to have to eat sorbet!!! Mint chocolate chip and something like double chocolate! Both excellent and creamy!! I try to go here every time I come to Columbus!

Went here a few days ago for a milkshake. I watched them make it, and they weighed the ice cream before removing the tiniest dollop of ice cream to get it to the "proper weight". They then added 90% milk.No surprise the final product was so incredibly thin that there was no resistance whatsoever when I moved the straw around the cup. It wasn't a milkshake. It was a cold glass of milk that had met an ice cream scoop once.Milkshakes are supposed to be thick. This was so thin it was literally indistinguishable from a glass of milk. Pure liquid. When I asked the employee about it being so thin, his response was to tell me "it's just a thin ice cream". Bro. Come off it. There's no such thing as a "thin ice cream". When you skimp on the scoops, and add 90% milk, that's what makes it thin. For the record I haven't had this issue at the other Johnson's location that I've been to previously, so it seems like it's an issue with this location specifically. But who knows, maybe it's a new corporate policy and they're all this way now?Regardless I don't think I have it in me to go back and spend almost $10 on a "milkshake" which is 90% milk. And now I'm wary of going back to one of the other locations, for fear that they're going to be just as bad now. Really disappointing. I liked Johnson's.
