First time and was happy with their products. Find them located downtown across from the courthouse. They offer one and two pound pre assorted boxes. Or you can build your own from the case. The staff was helpful and friendly during my November visit. Prices are high for chocolates these days, but likely similar to others. This place has been around a very long time and is a city staple. I would return.

I am originally from Newark Ohio and fondly remember Goumas candy as some of the best candy around. I left Ohio in 2010 and recently moved back. Sadly, while out of state Goumas fell off my radar but I'm here today to remind everyone how wonderful Goumas candy is and encourage you to visit one of their locations. They have three locations: Heath, Ohio, Granville, Ohio, and Newark, Ohio. We stopped in while waiting for the Licking County Courthouse Christmas lighting and for a brief time we were the only ones in the store located on the North side of the square in downtown Newark, Ohio. The cases were full of delightful candies and the two ladies behind the counter were cheerful and fun. They greeted us right away and my family chose several delectable candies ranging from chocolate covered Oreos and potato chips, to English Toffee, to Coconut Haystacks, to a wide range of truffles (my personal favorite). I escaped with a bag full of goodies to sample as we walked around the square as well as a box of assorted truffles. I highly recommend a visit to one of their three locations and don't forget to pick up your buckeyes!

For chocolates, Goumas really is "as good as it gets." You must try their peanut butter squares (or peanut butter eggs at Easter) and their melt away mints (cinnamon is the best IMO). They also always have a huge selection of sugar-free candies, which is really rare in a small shop. Goumas has been in business for years (tracing their lineage to a 1911 restaurant on the square in Newark) and are still family owned. Recently there was a family squabble and one brother defected to open a different shop in Granville under the name of Goumas Confections. To me, both are using a similar recipe (both claim they have the "original").Specifically relating to online services: Their system system is not where it should be. They don't charge shipping when you place your order, and wait until it's filled to weigh the candy. That is fine, but shouldn't all orders of the same thing weigh approximately the same amount? They were also nice enough to ship with an ice pack in the summer, which helped some I'm sure. But the pack was not cold anymore when it got to me... I mean, ice melts in a matter of hours.
