Eight and Sand Tavern & Refuge

This is the BEST POSSIBLE epitome of "Neighborhood restaurant!" Off high street mixed in with houses and local shops, you could easily drive by Eight & Sand - I did, haha! The all black paint job is what I look for now. This spot is Cheers, 21st century style. Why? Every time I've stopped in, I've stroked up convo with locals so easily, it's incredibly refreshing. With society so sucked into that smartphone bubble, this place is the absolute opposite. Inside is small: cool bar down one side and maybe 4-5 tables. The bar is your go-to for liquid refreshment. I've always just gone up to the bar to order, I'm actually not sure if there's wait staff; it seems a bit pretentious, I'd much rather head to the bar, strike up a word with the bartender, etc. - I find this more relaxing and personable in a good way. Their menu changes is very small, so heads up - don't getcha panties in a bunch. There's usually a special of some kind if I remember right. My heart belongs to one thing though: The Bacon Jam Burger! Medium rare, juicy, flavor-packed beef-and-bacon mashup - the bacon jam? Droooooool. You get my drift. Cheese, mayo, tomato (my normal toppings), a small dose of tastebuds' utopia. Plenty of free street parking - this is Hungarian Village meets 104/Southside, folks; gentrification hasn't spoiled this area yet. Perfect spot for any sporting event, there's TVs lining the bar. Go. Just go, 'nough said.

Can't believe this was our first time here! Such a clean friendly dive bar. The food is delicious. I highly recommend the hot chicken sandwich.

Off the beaten path, this tavern is set in a residential neighborhood, with street parking. It's a neighborhood bar with good food. I met Gwen here for happy hour and we sat at the bar. The bartender was great, and answered our questions while chatting with regulars.I had a cocktail, and the house made veggie burger. The bun and toppings were excellent.I would be a regular if I lived close by.

On a second trip, our experience was again super. The bartender was the owner. He greeted us as regulars. My with had the special steak torta steak, smashed avocado, LTO, and chimichurri on a toasted hoagie, and I had Coney Dog1/3lb all beef, house coney sauce, onions, cheddar, yellow mustard, toasted bun. Both were large portions. This place has a dive bar neighborhood vibe and is a super place.

Best Italian sub in columbus! Like seriously on an amazing focaccia bread. And best wings ever meat falls off the bone. Slap some of that spicy D's sauce on everything.

A delightful (literally) corner community pub. Nate, the owner, treats everyone so kindly. The kitchen makes everything from scratch and it's all worth a try.

With so many outstanding reviews on Yelp, I had to check this place out! I visited on a Tuesday night, which is dollar wing night. My partner and I ordered five each of the Carolina gold, Lil D's, and buffalo. All of the flavors were delicious and the chicken fell off the bones. We also ordered a Caeser salad, which was good sized w/tasty dressing.The bartender was playing a nice selection of blues, which added to the charming, quaint neighborhood vibe.The menu is small at Eight and Sand, but it has unique offerings- like miniature andoullie sausages.We made the trip from North Columbus to visit and I gotta say it was worth it. I'll definitely be a returning customer.

Have you ever eaten a chicken wing where the meat literally FALLS off the bone? My friend and I hit the jackpot discovering the wings here because they were the juiciest, sauciest, and tastiest wings we've ever eaten. As a wing connoisseur, I can absolutely say these wings are what dreams are made of. Run don't walk. The service was also great. We got seated and waited on immediately and food was served quickly. Love this cozy tavern!

Amazing service and food. The wings are awesome and flavorful. My wife got the special and that was shrimp and grits. Her being a Florida lady knows her shrimp and grits. This was a great find and will be back

A wonderful neighborhood bar tucked away fromthe hustle & bustle of High St. Eight and Sand delivers on atmosphere, food & service.The friendly bartender made me a great old fashioned and assisted my husband with making a beer choice.We shared chicken wings covered in Li'l D's Hot Sauce for an appetizer and they were fantastic! If you like spice Li'l D's is it! It's made by the in house chef and you can buy a bottle of it to take home (which we did).We also shared a fried chicken sandwich and it was great as well.We knew we struck gold finding this place when we left and there was a rainbow in the sky!
