Not What You Thought?

Double D's is a dive bar. It's not a strip club. There's one further along High Street. If that's the place you were looking for. This would be a good name for it. It has cheap drinks. Nothing is more important in a bar. They also have weekly specials. Any time it's never expensive. It's about $3 for wells. A lot of beer bottles are in the coolers behind the bar. There's quite a variety, from shit like Mike's Hard Lemonade to good old PBR. If you're looking for locally made or crafts, look elsewhere. The rest of the bar has an area to play darts and games. This isn't the best area. It's not that bad as it's not excessively full of crime. The outside around the bar is usually pretty safe.

My husband, an original South Sider, loves this bar. I go reluctantly out of love for him and I guess I really can't complain about this Columbus dive bar. We've gone randomly during the afternoon on weekdays and the atmosphere is pretty chill. The service has always been great, my husband enjoys chit chatting with the daytime bartender who also happens to have grown up on the south side. I tend to be less chatty so their Keno machine and liquor selection is a highlight for me.

A friend of mine goes here often. Maybe a little more than often. He's a big fan. I'm not so much. Since he's so up on this place, maybe he should write a review. As it is, the world is stuck with mine...The stand-out feature of this pub is its bar. A long bar with wrap-around ends. The bar staff (there is no other kind of staff here, but it sounded more professional this way) is excellent. Fast, friendly in a biker kind of way, courteous when absolutely required. Wait a minute...didn't I just say that the bar staff was excellent? Yep. If you've been in pubs like this before, you'll think they are, too. If you haven't been, you'll probably think they're having a bad day or something. Anyway, they have your drink to you in about 57 nanoseconds, so what's to complain about? There's a pair of electronic dart boards in the back. It appears that this is a venue for a dart league of some sort. It's pretty cramped back there, so I'd have to see team dart play in action to evaluate how well this works out. So, I'll just stop at noting the existence of the dart boards. The Wurlitzer-style digital jukebox is prominently displayed, and is cool looking. It seems to work OK, too. Sometimes, maybe a little too well ("I'm sorry, didn't you just play that song three times in a row about 25 minutes ago?" "Yeah, maybe. What's it to ya?" "Well, those songs are digital, aren't they?" "I guess. Why?" "I read the other day that each time you play a digital song, a little bit of it leaks out. After too many plays, the song just disappears." "Oh wow. I see what you're sayin'. I'll pay more attention from now on." "Good idea, man. That sounds like the smart thing to do.") There's speakers on the walls, which I think do double duty when there's a live act playing. Finally, there's a covered front porch. Great for the smokers (about 105% of the clientele). Maybe not so great for the folks trying to get in the front door. So, there you have it. Double D's is a pub, first and foremost. And that's not necessarily a bad thing for a pub to be.

I live just a few blocks from this stand alone bar in Merion village. I've been there three times; simply out of proximity to my condo. And honestly, there's really nothing much to it. The bartender was nice enough, but it's old, run-down and everyone in there was at least in their late 40s...On the weekend it doubles as a biker bar... At least I'm assuming, since there's usually quite a few Harley's and leather jackets there...

Truly one of the most terrible bars in the area. I've lived here for 6 years, been to this bar twice. Service was terrible, beer selection not any better. The bartender spent most of the time outside on the phone. Patrons just helped themselves behind the bar. Beer is cheap though when you can get it

They call themselves a veteran bar.. while the owner was very sweet, the bartenders should have all been arrested the night I was there. That night they OVER served this guy way too much to drink and the sent him on his way, and he ended up getting hit by a car (cops claimed he had a heart attack, but they're not the courier) and dying that night... only about 100 feet from the bar. The Bartenders were already wasted and were so mean when I went into to look for my boyfriend to leave.. they told me to get out and leave. Since I was too drunk to drive and didn't have a license, I tried to sleep it off on my car. Once the police left and they were all leaving, they were DEMANDING me to leave the property. A drunk person who couldn't just slept it off in the car. The ended up opening my personal car door and ripping me out of my car and assaulting me while stealing myself phone. I got back in the car I eventually slept it off and went home. I noticed my phone was gone even though it was in the car with me the whole time until I was pulled out from my car by the bartenders. When I went home and tracked the location of my phone. It was "still" at bar location, but it wasn't updated in 7 hours because the phone had shut off. My boyfriend and I go back to look for my phone and The sweet owner shows up and asked is what we were doing and I told him that my cell phone was stolen by his staff but the GPS said that this was the last location it pinged. The owner left with him dog and 15 mins later he came back and said he found my phone in a parking spot that I know I checked over 100 times. My father was dying and I had all of his voicemails on that phone and I wasn't leaving without it.. but there it was.. between by car and his truck. Like I said, sweet owner and horrible bartenders and customers who allowed themselves behind the bar to pour their own drinks for free. While they overcharged me for my drinks and then I refused to tip. Maybe if I tipped them, they wouldn't have dragged me out of my car, assaulted me and stole my phone. This was back in 2015. I will never go to this place again. What a way to treat a Veteran!!!

About the trashiest place I've visited in a long time. The bar smells and they smoke inside. The crowd is nothing but impressive. We stopped in there on our way out of downtown once looking for a "different" pub. Well, it was different all right. I do not recommend.
