Bob Ross once said "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." Did I mistakenly not buy tickets for our plan A excursion before they sold out? I'll admit to that. Vacation time is such a finicky thing that I didn't want to commit and lost out on what would have been a big mistake of my time. Excuse me, happy accident. Granted plan B came with a 20 dollar each admission. The personable desk worker listed many ways to get a discount that we didn't qualify for. I worried that we should've gone with some other plan. That is, until I actually stepped foot inside. The entirety of the first floor is a child's dream. I know because there were excited children there, not because I was the overly excited overgrown child. In my defense, it was coined the "interactive" exhibit for people like me and my bestie who are young at heart. We wove colored paper together, built LEGO sculptures, explored a hallway of cats- all with stations that asked you to draw and write and use your imagination. Most things you could bring home with you, though we opted to leave them with the others to share like those before us. (Had I not been conserving backpack space I would have reconsidered.)The most impressive room was the Lego room, complete with a massive city landscape with super attention to detail. I know that it is an art museum, with an entire adult floor dedicated to more traditional art. But this section hit me right, and apparently the staff too, as they let a few Lego men loose for a scavenger hunt around the museum. Floor two had multiple rooms all falling into different themes from religion to off the wall bonkers. All sizes and mediums were explored, ready to knock you off your feet with seating about the exhibits. We spent two hours absorbing it all like sponges, being careful to keep the flash off on our cameras. The bathroom itself is even a work of art. It was very clean, had a small assortment of feminine products, and faucets that both washed and dried your hands. There was also a gender neutral bathroom to make everyone feel safe. Your parking can be validated for 7 dollars. I was ready to pay the front desk when I was made aware you can also park for free if you spend seven at the cafe or gift shop. I chose the gift shop, which, while challenging, was not impossible. Things are priced like one would expect, though I found a little skeleton doing yoga that will sit on my shelf to remind me that yes indeed, Mr. Ross, happy accidents are indeed works of art.

Columbus Museum of Art is an art museum in Downtown Columbus, next to the Columbus College of Art and Design. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for students, seniors, and children. It's free on Sundays and $5 on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Parking is free if you get something at the Museum Store and/or Schokko Café; otherwise, it is $7.I went during April 2024, so their current exhibitions were exceptional! As an art lover, I was so impressed by the spring special exhibitions, Marie Laurencin: Sapphic Paris, Robin F. Williams: We've Been Expecting You, and American Photography from the 1960s and 1970s, which included many iconic photographs from Diane Arbus and Cindy Sherman. The museum houses American and European art, contemporary art, folk art, glass art, and photography. There are some great pieces by Monet, Renoir, and Picasso. Overall, I think the museum is a bit small compared to the other museums in LA (e.g., LACMA), but I will say it's definitely worth the visit if you love art and going to museums!

I took myself on an impromptu solo date to the Colombus Museum of Art on a Saturday morning. The 2-hour drive from Cleveland is a straight shot down the highway, and though not particularly scenic it's always tempting to stop at Tanger Outlets and/or IKEA...but I digress! The museum has a parking lot attached for easy access to the entrance. Upon entering, you'll notice the building is very well lit and bright. The administration desk is on the left hand side just past the gift shop. As a first time visitor, I almost bypassed the desk entirely. Given the size of the lobby, it blends in and is quite understated. Cleveland's art museum is free, and the same is true to other cities as well. In the Columbus Museum of Art lobby, there simply was not enough signage to indicate that visitors needed to stop and pay for admission. Nonetheless, $18 later and I had access to the museum. I specifically went for the Quilting a Future exhibit and was disappointed that only two of Bisa Butler's pieces were included. I stumbled upon several intriguing pieces, new artists to research, and a couple gems in the gift shop. Can't say I would make another day trip out of a visit but will keep an eye on future exhibits to visit when I'm in the area.

The CMOA is the best museum in the area, but that's not saying much. It has a fine selection of art, but it skews modern and lacks the elegance I like to see in an art museum. Nonetheless, a good experience and a nice space overall.

I LOVE COMING HERE. In college, I came a lot more to study art, and see some of the exhibitions. Brings me back to my artist roots. Some people like to come to museums and visit in other cities and some don't, I usually make it a priority tho to find a museum and visit. If this is you, in Columbus on a visit, come through! Worth the time. On Sundays it's free, double check that tho!!!! Depending on when you see this review, the museum recently added an entire section to the building! The Pizzuti collection hall and they upgraded the museum's storefront. It's amazing! Upon entering, the store is to the left and the coffee cafe is to the right. Bathrooms and lockers are in the same area. Upstairs is mainly for adults I'd say and the downstairs for children, but as the adult I also enjoy going downstairs. They always have something fun to see. Right now it's legos. They do host movie nights, check their listings. The BEST THING they host is called Wonderball. Every year. Double check for dates, it's usually in the fall. I had the honor and privilege of being on one of the subcommittees for the event choosing vendors, entertainment, artists, etc.. The two years I went one theme was black and white and the other was whimsical or something. Anyway, the museum hosts a lot of really cool and unique events. I advise you to get connected. It's a great date idea! I recently brought my fiancé here for a Yelp event. He had never been and has lived here a little over 20yrs. Had a great time he said and enjoyed all the Galleries. No matter what will bring you in, hope you enjoy your time.

This place is magical and unexpected and on my quick trip to Columbus, I'm glad I made time for an evening visit!I was lucky enough to see the Marie Laurencin & Robin F. Williams exhibits, but the permanent collection was equally as impressive. I was mesmerized by Antony Gormley's "Freefall II" and Simone Leigh's "Las Meninas II", but nothing prepared me for Mel Chin's "Spirit". The scale of the barrel in contrast to the fragility of the rope perfectly encapsulates the history of North America and the European conquest of its land. The building is beautiful and the way that the collection is broken up leaves surprises around every corner. The staff was lovely and helped me navigate a beautiful walk back to my hotel. I'm so glad I took the time to visit one of Columbus gems.

Fair amount of things to see and rooms to go into. I grew up in Cleveland, whose art mueum is massive, extremely well organized, and free for majority of its exhibits so I think my bar was set a little too high prior to my visit. Overall, did enjoy it a lot! Probably would not go again though. Kind of a one and done place

I love art museums I go to one and every city I travel to, they have some cool interactive things to do, kinda small compared to other museums but it's definitely worth going to, They have the best museum food too. I got the bread basket and the soup. It was amazing. Definitely a cool place to go.
