Chouraku Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi

Perfectly delicious dinner, cooked right in front of us. We ordered dinner for two including salad, soup, noodles, white rice, chicken, scallops, steak and shrimp. Everything was cooked perfectly. The cook put on quite a show to accent his cooking abilities.

I will first say that we had over-the top service here. We sat on the restaurant side, as the "show side" was already under way and full when we arrived. That was okay with us. We were seated and given menus with many different dishes to choose from. We are adventurous and enjoy all types of food, Asian dishes being some of our favorites. We were hungry and excited. Our server was very polite and attentive, yet not overbearing nor disruptive. Service would be a 5. The difficulty of rating this restaurant is that we were pleased with service, atmosphere, food was hot, portions reasonable, prices were reasonable as well. Our food was attractive on the plate and appeared to be plated with care. So what's the problem? Our food was not seasoned at all. I think this may be my first time of writing a review and using the word tasteless. My soup had noodles, quite a a bit of cabbage, carrot, etc and looked like typical broth noodle soup. It tasted like tap water with vegetables. No broth flavor, just water with a little cabbage-y essence. I poured 2 or 3 T of soy sauce in it for the sake of adding some salt, but it made little difference. My 2 tempura shrimp was good, but that was the only thing. The tempura vegetables were oily, pale, and soggy. The dipping sauce for the veggies...I expected soy sauce, maybe some garlic, ginger, chili, something! It honestly had such lack of flavor, I could barely detect any taste at all...not the typical bold flavors of Asian cuisine. Hubby ordered grilled fish with grilled veggies. The fish was nicely grilled, but was totally unseasoned as well, not even salt. The veggies weren't seasoned either and so lightly grilled that the onions were raw, so not appetizing. Hubby asked the server to bring some salt, which helped, a little, but boy, we sure would have liked some soy, ginger, fish sauce, garlic, chili, something! The sauce that came with his meal was pinkish, like maybe sweet and sour. That would have been nice. Honestly, we both tasted it and got pretty much nothing, so he didn't bother with pouring it over his food. It must have been just a lot of corn starch and water, coloring, and not much else, or maybe it was originally sweet and sour that had been "stretched" with corn starch to make it go further? Maybe they had watered down my soy-looking dipping sauce as well? We were so.disappointed. We really liked the feel of this place and it seemed to be a family-run business, which we would love to support, but honestly, we just didn't like our food. We didn't take our leftovers home, as we did not look forward to eating it again. We are hoping that this was just an "off" night in the kitchen. Maybe the food in the "show" room is different. We might try that someday and be pleasantly surprised, but probably not any time soon.

We hoped they would reopen hibachi, after Covid. Apparently they plan to be carry out only for the foreseeable future. We miss dining in. Their carry out is excellent. But dining-in with friends and family was awesome.

We stop and get sushi everytime we are in town.. Always great and cost way less then any other place I've got it from.. Dinning room still closed so haven't eaten in but can't wait to try . Will update when I do

Really a good place to eat! Family events are great there with their chef and the experience is fun

I'm just glad we have a sushi place and this one has been great every time we go in or order to-go. We went in the afternoon, so it wasn't busy. Obviously there is a wait for the food because it's made fresh, sushi takes a minute to prepare. The restaurant was clean, but it is dark in there, not that that matters. Definitely recommend for your sushi fix.

Great food and service! You can't beat the hibachi and the entertainment from watching the chef as well! Great for the whole family!

I had a great experience, sir. The cook was very entertaining, and the food was really good and I got to sit with a gray group of people.

We have always chosen food from their hibachi grill! We are never disappointed in the food or the service! I would highly recommend this restaurant!!

Probably the worst experience I had. They only had two chef. One chef per 2 table. So they would cook on one side and then the other side. Food was burnt and veggies were not good at all. Waited at the table for 1hr 45 min before the started cooking and it was terrible. I know alot of people don't want to work and you try your best but it's bad when everything was bad. Noodles was under cooked. Eggs was burnt in the fried rice.
