I absolutely love to find fantastic sandwich shops on my travels and McKenna's Market was indeed a gem located in the small town of Newark. The store is located in the town square across from the courthouse. Diagonal parking is in front and free. I found the walk up clear of debris. The market is small but packs a lot in. McKenna's claim to fame is their sandwiches and the business was brisk on two of my visits. They also feature rotating soups which I did enjoy one day. The rest of the store has cookies, nuts and other specialty items. They also offered fudge. A small wine offering is in the rear. My visits over a few days in Newark were very strong with both products and customer service. McKenna's features Walnut Creek meats. Customers complete an order form for the staff and drop in a basket. I enjoyed a roast beef on a French baguette one day and chicken noodle soup on another. I also purchased their fudge. Everything was quality and delicious! Checkout is up front and the employees were friendly. 4.5 and I would love to return.

I'd heard a lot about this place, and somehow expected it to be out in the country. But nope, right on the square. Decent-sized space for being in town, and lots of interesting items: candy, baked goods, meat, cheese, wines, beer, etc. I got some pickled eggs, and some snacks. Oh, and their root beer. They also have sandwiches, etc., but I'd eaten. Friendly service. Decent prices. Lots of good stuff to pick from, and I'd be back often if I lived nearby.

I was really impressed! I had read reviews and I've seen pictures but still pleasantly surprised by this little market downtown Newark. There is a full deli located within the market which makes cold or toasted subs. I grabbed a couple of subs for myself and mother , grabbed a cheese and sausage box for my little ones (along with nostalgic candy sold in store), some Zappos chips and day at the "bar" with 4 seats and a large window overlooking downtown. The sub was full of meat and vegetables and the bread was a fresh loaf. I was so surprised by the quality of the sub I grabbed a couple more subs to go before leaving. McKennas has it all! Orange soda, Ginger soda, nostalgic bottles of Coca-Cola, Amish made buckeyes, fry pies, cold salads, nostalgic candies, a friendly staff and cute market!

Don't be fooled by the name, this is sooooo much more than a market! Great Sandwiches, Soups and Salads. Step back in time and enjoy the old time candies. Beer and wines. Full Deli. Great spice mixes. Be sure to try the Fiesta salad with Creamy Citrus Cilantro dressing! OMG!
