Quite honestly, I am in love with the romantic idea of having a farmers market nearby. I love that I can walk down down the sidewalk just two blocks and buy fresh fruits and veggies. In fact, just this morning we walked down and bought some fresh-picked blackberries. By this afternoon we had made them into a delicious pie. I win.All that being said, the selection isn't all that it could be. Canal is located very close to a number of working farms. However, the market only boasts five fruit and veggie stands. The folks selling locally raised meat haven't been around lately. There is a great bread stand courtesy Great Harvest Bakery, but that's pretty corporate. There are a few too many stands with things like Tupperware and knick-knacks.The farmer's market is open every Saturday morning through mid-October. Until August 27, it's open on Wednesday nights too.

Sweet little market. Our only disappointment is that we found out one of the prominent vendors buys from wholesale and then resells. We go to farmer's markets to support local and get food where we know its background! If you feel the same, don't be afraid to ask about where the farm is or where the food comes from! Or trust your instincts if the veggies look "too perfect"! Then move on to a truly local farm!

This farmer's market is more than just fruits and veggies! It is like a tiny art show mixed with fresh food, fresh flowers, and a lot of talented artisans every Saturday from 9a-12p until October. I find this to be a great idea since most art shows in the Columbus Area seem to be one weekend during the summer and done. There is such a variety for the whole family here. Love seeing what next weeks products will be!
