Janie R. "This is the spot! In the tiny town of Adelphi. Absolutely wonderful little shop doing great things. The philosophy of the owner is pretty great. Treat the animals well. Don't have them travel long distance before or after they are processed. It's not good for the animal and it's not good after for the meat. They have a true ethical center that has me driving 1/2 hour from Chillicothe to source our beef. This is truly local beef. Excellent quality and good people. They also have pork and chicken, but neither are locally raised."

This is however the place to go if you are looking for fresh, quality meats! the deli/meat department is on point for sure, you'll pay an extra buck or two but it's well worth it for the flavor! The layout of the store is a little less to be desired but it's not a deal breaker... well worth a visit and i am going to try and shop here more often for my food and grocery needs."

James V. "Wonderful Mexican market located in an assuming shopping strip at the corner of Bethel and Sawmill. As you enter, you won't miss the wide variety of colorful produce. Pretty much everything you need is available: herbs, peppers, chiles, cactus, etc. Continue down the aisles and you'll see an array of drinks and snacks imported from Mexican including what appears like every flavor of Jarritos you could've imagined, in addition to a huge selection of fruit juices. Toward the back there's many cuts of meat and varieties of tortilla + tostadas as well as a household favorite: chicharron pork skins. The refrigerator section carried a variety of goods, from fresh cheeses through tamale flour base. We didn't really explore the center aisles that much, but they appeared well stocked too. Definitely an excellent stop for all your Mexican grocery needs!"

I've been to the other locations, this one is much smaller. Decent selection of dry goods, produce, drinks, snacks, and meats. Also a small restaurant, although I had just had Mexican the other day and I didn't see a menu.Wish I'd known it was here sooner. Will be back I'm sure."

Lydia B. "Working in the North Market, I get asked a lot about what is good to eat. Well, damn near everything, of course- but I usually point them down to North Market Poultry & Game's Kitchen Little. "It's the best food in Columbus!" I say, feeling fairly secure in my pronouncement.See, I've never shopped at NMPG itself- the meat counter- but I have learned the not-very-well kept secret that is Kitchen Little. That unassuming little glass case holds a king's ransom of flavors. It's embarrassingly hard to pick what to eat from day to day.You can't go wrong here, but a few of my go-to staples are the meatloaf (usually chicken or turkey, always delicious, moist, and perfect), the chicken cutlet whose fried-chicken appearance hides untold wealth of flavor, or the chicken and waffles- the aforementioned chicken cutlet on a Taste of Belgium waffle, drowning in Frank's Red Hot Sauce (if you're smart about it).People like to throw around the phrase "home cooked" but if you cook food this good in your home, you need to marry me. This is food that exemplifies Columbus- unpredictable, amazing, local, and responsible. Throw in the friendly staff, the sampling, and the general atmosphere of the Market- which I love- and you have a winning combination. It's been said before by writers far more professional than I, and they were right: if Kitchen Little was its own stand-alone restaurant somewhere in town, it'd be a sensation. As it is, I kind of like the homey, back-kitchen feel. This is food that will forever change your overall opinion of prepared food counters, even if you already think highly of them. And, yeah, do yourself a favor and get some o' them good duck fat fries. You won't even need ketchup- it'd just ruin the flavor. The only complaint I can muster is that sometimes people get there before I do and buy up all the best stuff. That's definitely an acceptable loss for me- because it means Kitchen Little is getting the attention it so richly deserves!"

Sara C. "Since I've started working on mid-west campus, I've ordered from the Meat Shoppe a few times. The link is go.osu.edu/meatsales, and you email or call in, with pick-up being on Fridays between 1-4:30pm. This works great for me since I can just run across the street to pick up my orders! So far, I've tried the following items:- Flank steak - great!- Lamb shoulder (boneless) - that student needed a little extra guidance- Bacon - the slicing was a little inconsistent- Tri-tip roast (one of the few places that has them) - one was great and one you could tell the student was not quite sure where the tri-tip was supposed to endAnd I just picked up a skirt steak and some kabob sirloin tips. The location is a little awkward even if you are on campus - it's in the animal sciences building on the southwest corner of Fyffe and Woody Hayes. There are a couple pay meters right in front of the building, or if you've got a permit there are C spots in the court or A/B spots in the lot next to Plumb Hall. Room 110 is up the stairs next to the horse statue, through two sets of glass doors, and immediately on your left. If you want really really local meat, want to support animal science students, and don't mind a little clumsy trimming sometimes, this is a great option! The meat comes frozen, so don't plan on having it for dinner that night! Prices are pretty comparable to grocery store prices (some are better deals than others)."

Bill E. "Mosier's Market is definitely a hidden gem. Living in Delaware I get the town saver every month, Mosier's always has a full page ad about specials and deals. What drew me to Mosier's was the price for boneless skinless chicken breast at $1.59 a lb, which is a steal. I was very impressed with the meat selection here, the website states over 100 years of meat cutting experience. Deli salads (Ham, Macaroni, etc) are made on site and while I didn't buy any they were very tempting. I was treated like family here at Mosier's and I really appreciate that, the market is a smaller IGA with locally made pies and Smith's dairy products. I will be shopping for my chicken and other items now at Mosier's. Make a trip out to Raymond and visit Mosier's you won't be disappointed!"

From deli to ribs, burgers to steaks. Very clean location and friendly staff. Hours vary on holidays. One thing they need to do is label the two doors in and out because the out door is right next to register and meant to be one way. Mark K. "Just opened yesterday, and bustling today. Full disclosure: Sweetie went to school with Dan, the owner, who has been in the local food scene for a long time. He ran Double Comfort, a much-missed Short North restaurant, and has been involved with local faves Tatoheads and Ray Ray's, if I remember correctly. Nice little shop in the Linworth strip where Cameron's is, with loads of amazing meats inside. Brats, chorizo, weisswurst, and many other sausages. Several pates, bacon, pastrami, and much more. Cabbage rolls, an assortment of cheese, pickles, a few dry goods, all enticing. Mom picked up some items for a relish tray for a church dinner tonight. I got sausage, pastrami, and pickles. Might grill or air fry the sausages. I suspect the pastrami and pickles will be gone before Monday, or else I'd take them to work for lunch. Edit: I've had several pastrami sandwiches. It's luscious, and flavorful. The pickles are carrots and cukes and peppers, crunchy and vinegary with a hint of garlic and dill. The sausages are huge and tasty. I did them in the air fryer since the weather was too crummy for grilling. We also got hente kolbacz, kielbasa seasoned with paprika. And salonna, sort of a cross between bacon and roast pork that works well as a snack, on sandwiches, or as an ingredient.Closed Mondays, decent hours the rest of the week. We'll be back."

Mary Anne's Meats

Elisa E. "Carnivore heaven. I grew up in Lexington, and have low expectations of local dining options. People living here adore the Olive Garden and pretty much anything that is labeled "Amish" and served in massive quantities at a buffet. This place is a category-breaker. Mary Anne's would be a fine butcher in Chicago, and probably give Paulina Meat Market a run for their money--at least as far as their beef and pork cuts. We picked up pork chops for the day-after-Thanksgiving dinner, and some bacon for breakfast the day after that. The chops were fresh, tender and juicy. The bacon is smokey, thick and almost too delicious for humble eggs. Acc. to my family, the meat is all locally raised. I wish we brought a cooler, because the steaks (at least an inch thick) and roasts were gorgeous, and the price was quite competitive compared to the big city. The store also has condiments and dessert-type goodies, most of them made in the area. The home-made "moon pies" looked positively sinful. I may come back and defile myself with one of those and a Pepsi from the vintage pop machine located next to the store. Good thing the Presbyterian church is just a half-block away."

I've also ordered specialty meats from there, which were very affordable and were ready within a couple days. The woman who is usually working, I assume the owner, is super kind and helpful. I never feel rushed when I'm there and you can tell she loves what she does. Inside it's set up like the others I've been to: western/hunting theme, barrels of jerky and beef sticks lining the walls. You can sample any of the flavors, and they have a ton, from mild to fiery- and some are pretty darn hot. They're all good- quality ingredients, interesting flavors. They have both beef jerky and beef sticks, in several sizes of bags. Plus, they have some other kinds of jerky- salmon, elk, buffalo, etc. I've made jerky so I know how expensive it can be, just for ingredients. This stuff is pretty close to homemade quality. I go every few months and stock up. It's a little pricey, but well worth it since it's such good stuff. They have a club card now where you get $10 off after 10 visits."

We initially decided on Costco, however, set our destination for Bluescreek shortly after turning out to the main road. I recall seeing the outstanding average review score of this establishment on Yelp when looking at places in the area but didn't delve into the specifics. Wow, I feel fortunate for the opportunity to have experienced it prior to leaving town... Located in a relatively unassuming single story gray building in Plain City among rural surroundings, it might be easy to miss if you're not using a GPS app. If you're not located nearby, it's definitely worth the trip. Not only is a meat wonderland--with outstanding quality and a wide-selection served by knowledgeable butchers--there's a huge inventory of local and in-house crafted goods. Like everything you can imagine for: baked goods (tons of well labeled and delicious gluten-free options), dairy products, pastas and pasta sauces, coffees, condiments (especially unique ketchups crafted from bourbon and bacon as well as a plethora of mustards), hot sauces, and even soaps.
