Carla D. "Cornucopia is a catering service that has been around for about 28 years. They have an office in Bexley but they don't really do walk-ins. You must call them and make your plans with them. They cater for many types of events at many places, including your home. Menus available are cocktail and buffet receptions, with an assortment of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Some of the buffet items are dishes like fragrant steamed chicken with sherry, ginger and garlic on a bed of basmati rice, Swedish pancakes with cream cheese and pear, and pear and almond tarts with apricot glaze. Cocktail menus are divided into "tables", like a vegetable and sandwich table in which you can find exquisite sounding dishes like grilled duck breast with spicy plum sauce on cornmeal pepper brioche."

The Vault

The Vault

★★★☆☆ 3.1 (18)

Jayme H. "A venue downtown, that's a bit run down, but it works for the right type of event. I've only been here for music. The Be Louder Group hosts shows here, primarily for electronic music. It's easy to get to but there's not really any parking in the area. I know a lot of people that get their cars broken into on the weekends, so I suggest ubering if you can. Once inside the building it looks old. Word on the street is this was an old bank back in the 1920s. There's tile everywhere, the walls could use a paint job, and the bathroom was a wreck. But like I said in the beginning, it fits for the right event, and a rave is just one of them. When you reach the ballroom, you'll find the old vault tucked under a grand staircase. It doesn't really have any of the old vault features but it is what it is. I will say that the lighting is pretty good, and the giant windows are cool. When I've been there they projected the DJs name on the wall, like I see many do for weddings. There's a big chandelier hanging right in the middle with tapestries pulling away from it. It's rather beautiful. I'm interested in seeing this place set up in the daytime or for a wedding but who knows if that would ever happen. If they cleaned up the place a bit I can see it being really lovely."

Stephanie P. "I used Made from Scratch to cater my (awesome) casual wedding reception. Originally, we had planned on simply ordering food, having it delivered and doing it all ourselves. We'd save money, have food we liked and all would be grand. Then I started thinking about all the things we'd need to buy/bring/clean-up after and my head nearly exploded. So, I hit up Yelp for some suggestions and started looking around for caterers. Boy, am I glad that I did!I sent in an email and was quick contacted by Lauren Dillon. She was friendly, helpful and professional. We talked about what our event was going to be and what we were looking for and settled on a theme for the food. "Fun, non-fussy, easy to eat" was the order of the day. Within a couple of days, I have a proposal for a menu from Lauren. We had some specific food allergies that we need to work around and Lauren/MFS were super accommodating. On the day of our reception, the 2 staff members were prompt and completely set-up by the time we arrived. We literally had nothing to do! And the staff were fabulous. They took care of everything. They boxed up the leftovers as meals which were "donated" to the staff at our venue. I heard nothing but compliments about the food from our guests. While we may have paid a bit more than we would have doing it ourselves, being able to enjoy my reception without having to worry about refreshing trays or trash duty was worth every penny. I would gladly use Made From Scratch again when planning a larger event!"

The next time was a few years ago, again at the truck, parked at the coming soon Crooked Can / Center Street Market. I had a falafel salad and made the mistake of requesting cheese - they added way too much mozza and it just didn't do it for me.More recently, I've had food from their permanent place inside the Center Street Market and have enjoyed everything. Their fries are fresh and hot, and the falafel salad is excellent (no cheese). Next time I want to add more falafel. The bella sauce is great, both on entrees, and for dipping the fries. It's easy to order and pay on their app, and you get a text when it is ready for pickup at their counter."

Megan G. "This is BBQ that will make you pity vegans and the life they lead. Simply Smoked catered a football watching party I attended, and let me tell ya, IT. WAS. AMAZING. The brisket was moist and tender, and full of flavor (no BBQ sauce required, the way Texans intended it!) I legitimately ate myself into what can only be described as a plane between "my pants no longer fit" and "dear god what have I done". WORTH IT. And while I'm not a chicken girl per say, this went above and beyond my expectations. It was juicy and flavorful. The sides were amazing, too. (I'm a sucker for mac n' cheese). When he showed up with the food, I was thinking "there's no way we're going to eat all of this". Yeah, I was way wrong. It was all snatched up in a matter of an hour. No small feat. I'd recommend Simply Smoked to anyone!!"

Kevin P. "I went to the Grand Valley Dale Ballroom as a guest at a musical memorial service for a man who had played in a Big Band-era group that often performed there. The ballroom is spacious, with a large dancefloor in the center, surrounded by tables and chairs, and a stage for performers. It was clean and attractive, and the food/drink service was nice. If I were ever to host an event that included dancing and performances, food and drink, etc., I would definitely consider this venue. It would make a great place to host a wedding reception, a 1920s or 30s ball, or a concert that involved dancing. I'm not sure if the dance floor can actually be removed to prevent it from being scratched by other types of events, and I believe that it is marketed primarily as a venue for dancing. It's somewhat remote from downtown Columbus, and it might be slightly difficult to see the entrance to the parking lot at a nighttime event, but it's well worth checking out."

Apparently the employee who worked with us is no longer with the company. So, she got the flack. We do have a vm logged from the proprietor. We'll use this catering again in the future and see how it goes! One excellent element of note for those planning corporate events learned from this phone call: You can provide your own serving and display ware in the event you are hosting a static station that does not require staffing. They will do the displays et all on the plating for you - VERY COOL!I haven't seen this option before in the catering world yet.Stay tuned folks!_____Had this catering company for a work event - it was a big deal with a leading accounting firm, the leading area bank, and a bunch of attorneys. We tried to place an order about 10 days in advance for 60 people which should be no big deal in the catering world. We asked for suggestions, because we really wanted to use Scott's but cocktail meatballs weren't going to cut it for this crowd and were looking into lighter and more elegant summer fare and needed suggestions for what would compliment our theme. We were told we'd receive a call back by Monday... no surprise, no call.We called back and the lady we spoke to was the same one we'd spoken with to do the initial booking. She had no recollection of the conversation - which means no order was in the books or as a place holder. We settled for something as general selections. It arrived on time and in hotboxes. We ordered plus more:Whole Baked Brie (serves15-20 guests) $40.00Wrapped in Phyllo baked with caramelized apple slices in a beautiful floral display. Served at room temperature with crackers. HOUSE SPECIALTY!Crab Cakes $1.75Appetizer size served with crab Louie sauce.Cheese plate - plain 'ol cheese - nothing special. Review:One orchid blossom on top of a wheel of brie does not constitute a floral display, nor one we could create on our own when we set the food display. No one touched this in a party of 60 people (I liked the flavor though).Cheese plate - ok.Crab cakes - about silver dollar sized, got good feedback on the louie sauceMeatballs - typical stuff, but that's what we were expecting.**HERE'S the BEST PART** - I commented on an interactive forum for a venue space that uses this caterer - hence wanting to try them out in advance for a smaller sized event before committing to a 200-300 person event. In mentioning we had a not so great experience at work, and asking what were others' experiences were like, what kind of budget did they work with and who else had they compared with--- my comment/question was deleted, and I was kicked off the forum.BAD social media mojo. It would have been great if the person had reached out to find out what our experience was like, either by response post, or in taking mine down but then reaching out personally via private message. Keep in mind, there was absolutely no flaming - just the questions as listed above. To be fair, the reviews posted on the business website are all positive. They could win me back as I LOVE the venue -- they just need to build professional faith in me by reaching out."

The meat was excellent - tender and juicy, and the sauce was very good! The sides were only OK - the beans had a good taste, but were really thick. The mac and cheese had a strange aftertaste that we couldn't quite identify. We would get the meat again though, and maybe try some of the other sides (potato salad and cole slaw)."

Good smells roaming about! When you first walk into the space, there's a blackboard with Graze's weekly lunch specials. I'm a sucker for salmon, so I went with their Wood Fired Salmon Salad. The gentlemen manning the grills were very nice. Polite. They even gave me an extra bunch of sprouts and fresh red beets on the salad, at no extra cost. We ordered via Grub Hub and I got the Tilapia which is a large portion that comes grilled with peppers, onions, and served over rice. It's delicious and so is the hummus and pita. It was 16.99 and comes with a drink. While I did not receive the drink it was still a pretty good deal. The pita and hummus was amazing. My husband ordered the veggie delight sandwich. The sandwich he got was different than what he ordered. And he did not receive his Greek Salad. He called and spoke with the owner who apologized and said he would send someone out right away with the missing drink, salad, and the correct sandwich. We waited an an additional hour and a half and gave up. We were able to get refunded through Grubhub for anything missing. Apparently, they are rather well known in the Columbus area by the vegan population. From what I could gather, this is a family affair: daughter is the chef and builds the menu, with the help of her mother. I tried their vegan burger. They make their own vegan honey mustard sauce to go on it, which I thought was good, but a bit overpowering; should have asked for lite sauce. The vegan protein party could have used a some more umph in the flavor department, but it was still a solid meal. Anyone attempting to venture out and appease the masses deserves a nod."

My first meeting with him was different than with any other caterer: he spoke with me and my mom and was clearly very passionate about the food itself! (Amazingly, I didn't get that vibe from any of the others I met with). We talked through many options and what would be best for the event and the guests coming, during that meeting and afterward, to make sure we had the right menu. I also got to taste test almost everything that I had actually chosen (not just any samples from his menu) and was impressed even with that. One very important thing was the fact that Steven was extremely willing to accommodate dietary issues. I had two friends attending the wedding with severe food allergies (both different ones), and without hesitation, Steven offered to custom make each of them a plate to avoid any cross contamination. No other caterer that I spoke to was willing to do this, but it made all the difference for my friends who were able to enjoy the wedding without worry. Finally, I can't stress enough how good the final results were. I got so many comments during the wedding - even from people who aren't foodies like me and wouldn't normally comment on food - telling me that it was the best and healthiest food they had ever had at a wedding. I would have to agree. It takes a lot to pull that off for a large group of people, but Steven's did it beautifully and very kindly. I would recommend Steven's to anyone!"
