We had booked Big Darby's Ravine for a wedding reception, sent out 100 invitations, and they cancelled on us 3 weeks before the date of the reception. While I understand that double-bookings do occur, it was the manner in which it was handled that really soured us to this venue. Shari left a voicemail to tell me she was cancelling our reservation. She chose to not call me in person and tell me and offer me any alternatives. I saw that she had called when i was driving home, so I called her when I got home. Instead of telling me, she wanted me to listen to the voicemail. It wasn't until I insisted (because she was acting so strange on the phone), that she did tell me she was cancelling our reservation. They offered no other options. After pressing her, she did offer to pay for my postage because we now had to mail out another 100 invitations with a new venue.When I requested reimbursement for the postage, they emailed me back and required I submit: 1) copy of the original invitation with their address; 2) a copy of the new invitation with the venue; 3) proof of mailing, and 4) proof of the cost of the postage. SERIOUSLY??? They were the ones who messed up and yet treated us like we were trying to cheat them out of money. Finally, their own contract states that the deposit will be applied to the rental fee: "This deposit is not refundable and will be applied to the agreement fee for the use of the space" Shari told us that the deposit is NOT applied to the total fee and it is kept for "cleaning" - directly opposite of what their own contract states. These folks are not on the up and up!
