I had decided that I wanted to take up using a pipe rather than to continue using cigarettes so I did a search and found their shop in Lane Ave.The shop is well hidden so I called the shop, the guy told me where to go and told me he would wait outside for me.With his help, I found the place and was escorted in.I was a bit daunted by the selection but Curt was beyond patient with me.First he helped me find a pipe, a GORGEOUS Burl Churchwarden Pipe (large comfortable to hold bowl with VERY LONG STEM..16" ?) think Gandalf's pipe from the Lord of the Ring movies that came from an estate sale and reconditioned.Next Curt helped me select the tools of the trade. A 3 piece Pipe Nail/ Scoop/Tamper. Then Xtra Long Pipe Cleaners.Then the fun part of selecting a tobacco.He made some suggestions before I started the fun task of going from jar to jar smelling them before making my selections.I then purchased my items after Curt had thrown in a large velvet bag to protect my beautiful new pipe and a supply of matches.Then we went to a table where (with assistance) I learned how to properly fill and light a pipe. Before long, I was happily puffing away while enjoying a cup of coffee!I was also taught the proper way of caring for my pipe. Like running a pipe cleaner through it before every use (When the bowl is cold), never removing the stem unless the bowl is stone cold and how to clean the bowlI must have been in there near 3 hours and never felt rushed!Most likely I will be going there about once a week to try a new flavour of tobacco!

There used to be a sitcom on FOX back in the 90s where various aspects of a man's persona - his ID, his ego, intellect and the like - we're represented by individual actors living in a shared space that by all ostensible reasons was a direct metaphor for his brain. I believe it was called Herman's Head.The inside of Barclay's on Lane I think would prove to be a suitable visual surrogate for my own mental interior, replete with sconces devoted to both Irish and Scottish derivations is whiskeys (shared privately by frequent patrons and not sold, mine you), a beautiful walk-in humidor, and copious amounts of various tobacco blends. This place may be my heaven, tucked away behind a dance studio and a Chinese restaurant for a neighbor. Yeah that sounds esoteric enough to somehow encapsulate what my metaphorical interior would be like.The folks working there are nice and really helped me out with getting me everything I needed to enjoy a hand-made Gandalf-like wooden pipe I won as part of a charity fundraising event. I knew next to nothing so I walked in asking for a sudden influx of suggestions, and they responded amiably and admirably.I'll definitely be back but I think it may take me a bit before I'll need to replenish my stock. I went a bit hog wild because they hang discounts based on volume of purchase.At least I know where to hang my hat should the hobby stick with me beyond the occasional toke of 'ol Toby, so to speak.

Friendly knowledgeable staff and a clean establishment. Comfortable seating in a more open space then a year ago. Place to go for pipe tobacco and help with pipes. Great cigar selection.

Gary (one of the owners) is a great guy, and there are some great regulars that come in to smoke in the shop. They are getting some great brands I'm the store like under crown by liga privada. They always have a lot of pipes that is really a specialty of theirs

My first experience at Barclay on Lane Ave was absolutely amazing. I am a new pipe smoker and was in wonderland... so many different bulk tobaccos to choose from as well as tins. The Guys who worked there we very welcoming to me. They were happy to share their knowledge with me and give me some pointers. The guys encouraged me to sit a while and have a smoke with my new pipe that I purchased.... It was an awesome place to sit and hang out have a smoke on a cold winter day. They also have a walk in humidor that looks absolutely amazing... I will be back to for sure to buy more and sit and smoke after a long work day
