After seeing three different performances at three different venues, AVLT has become one of my favorite live theatre experiences in Columbus. Each production has pushed a boundary, and while a few company members reappear in different productions, they generally bring fresh faces and voices to each new story. I'm really excited for what the AVLT company plans to bring with the new season, and I encourage people to try them out.One of AVLT's best features is their "Pay what you want" program - just show up, and if the show isn't sold out you can get in for as little or as much as you can afford. If you like the show well enough to throw a few more dollars at the fishbowl on the way out, so much the better! These guys are good, they're local, and they're unique. Go see a show!

We went to the new season fundraiser last night. They raised lots of money for "pay what you want". We got a preview of their next show Falsetto. The troupe also showed great versatility in their sketch work. As a plus we got to eat some great Katzinger snacks. Make your way to the new season, support local theatre, and have some Columbus fun. We are big fans.

It's no secret that I love Available Light - professional, independent, inspiring theatre. One of the best things about Available Light is that almost all of their shows are pay what you want. I know a lot of people in Central Ohio who love theatre but never go to shows because they can't afford tickets. But with Available Light's shows... well, c'mon, bring your lunch to work one day and drop $5 for a ticket if that's all you can afford. It's ok. Really. They don't mind. They believe that theatre is too important to be reserved for the economically fortunate.Note: The address I listed isn't where they perform. Actually, I have no idea what this address is, but it was listed on their website. Reason being. they don't have their "own" venue - the shows that I've seen have been in the Riffe building or at Junctionview.

I love Available Light Theatre. On Saturday I saw my second AVLT production, 33 Variations. The first was Skyscrapers of the Midwest. Both pieces were a mix of wit and intelligence with an underlying sense of melancholy. It is a hard combination to balance, but AVLT hit all the right notes with both performances.
