"Family Owned Vegan Restaurant in Downtown Columbus, Ohio."This statement alone sparked my curiosity while on a business trip to the Midwest. 4th & State is a wonderful place in America's heartland offering up traditional diner fare made from plant based ingredients. I read all of the Yelp reviews and decided to walk over from my downtown Columbus hotel to check it out. It's easy to find (on the corner of South 4th Street and East State Street), as you'll see people waiting outside to be lucky enough to snag one of the limited dining room table seats. Be prepared to wait with other hungry and health-conscious customers. Even as a solo diner on a late Sunday morning, I was told the wait would be about an hour. I was able to leave my name and received a curtesy call 45 minutes later once my table was available. My friendly server came over to offer me something to drink, asked if I had any questions and presented some of the specials for the day. After taking several moments to pour over the great-sound menu, I decided to go with the Statehouse Breakfast ($18) - Two pancakes or French Toast served with a choice of breakfast sides. In my case, I went with the seasonal Cinnamon Apple French Toast, with Hashbrowns (GF/SF) and Seitan Sausage. Service was very attentive, although customers should know that during peak busy times, you will wait a good 20-30 minutes for your order to arrive. This has nothing to do with efficiency, as the food is served up hot, fresh and tasty - it's simply a matter of good food takes time to prepare. Finally, my food arrived (with an smile and an apology for the wait from my server). It was well worth the wait. The seasonal Cinnamon Apple French Toast was spectacular. The caramelized apple bits mixed with an outstanding whipped cream and syrup was absolutely incredible. The toast itself was wonderfully soft and tasty, with just a slight hint of crisp on the crust corners. Add an extra $1 to the Statehouse Breakfast if you choose to add the Seasonal option(s) to your order. The Hashbrowns (GF/SF) were also quite good. Great crisp outer texture with delicious soft potato interior, all without the guilt. The plant-based meat substitute Seitan Sausage links were also tasty. The prices are on par with what you would find at other diners, but without the greasy spoon guilt. Come check out this family-owned diner, as this clan knows how to create an amazingly unique dining experience that will delight the tastebuds of everyone that visits.

TOP TIER. The location is convenient. The atmosphere is cool. The people, staff and guest, are helpful and friendly. The menu is amazing. The options are great. My food was delicious. EVERYTHING is vegan. I can't wait to come back with my sons. I bought two orders of the loaded fries, potato skins, and cheezy garlic bread. Chef's kiss!

We found this place just down from the theater and loved everything we had! There are very few places where we could order anything on the menu as vegetarians! The chicken parmesan sandwich was amazing! Drinks were good and we did street parking close by. Will def be back anytime we are in downtown Columbus!

100% vegan, 100% awesome Downtown vibes, in a cool, clean healthy breakfast lunch restaurant. Owner had Eden Burger before. Incredible variety on a vegan menu, fun looking desserts as well. Even a cocktail and beer menu!!

A well-known vegan spot in town! My friend and I came here for dinner one day. Parking is parallel, but we found free parking less than a block away. There were people sitting inside but it wasn't all that busy. The menu is huge! Really great for vegetarians and vegans. They also serve breakfast, which my friend and I agreed to return and try.We ordered a few things to share: taco vrunchwrap, jalapeño popper pizza, and the lone star burger. While everything looked small, we were both very full by the end of it!The pizza had a nice creamy texture and the vrunchwrap was a solid vegan take on Taco Bell's crunch wrap. The lone star burger was interesting. I don't dislike tempeh, but it was cooked a bit too crispy for me. But I'm not vegan, so I'm no expert! It came with fries, so we opted for the loaded option. The ranch and vegan bacon were perfection! My favorite item on the menu!Overall, it was a fun time! The staff is very friendly and helpful. And the large menu made it tough to decide what to eat!The only drawback is that the kitchen is in the same space. Since it's not enclosed, all of my clothes and hair smelled like fried food LOL

Decided to check out this place since I've heard so many amazing things about it. Also the place looks so cute on the corner of 4th and state.Just to preface, it is a vegan breakfast/ lunch spot so most menu items are vegan. I decided to order the French toast sticks, chorizo scramble, and a bagel w cream cheese. I lovedddd the French toast and bagel w cream cheese. Both were very tasty and left my tummy feeling super happy. I was not in love with the chorizo scramble, but it was still good !! I will definitely have to try their pancakes next time, as my friend ordered that and said it was yummy. One thing that i loved about the place and set it apart was a fire playlist!! So many good throwbacks playing that had me singing/ humming while eating. It was an ultimate vibe.

I love this place every time I come home I get something to eat here. I did get something for dinner. I got the junior faking and it was so good and I also ate some of my brother food. Who had a bowl and load the staff was nice. It was kind of packing there, but it was also very quiet and chill which I love as well. also it doesn't take that long to get food so I love that as well.. definitely going back for brunch

My friend's friend worked here so I am biased that we had great service. We got to influence the playlist so that helped as well. It was full most of the time so it seemed to be a great place to go.While I am not a big breakfast place, it was nice they served it all day and had the regular lunch menu. We got the pancakes and they are soft, fluffy squares that really fill you up. The blueberry pancakes were proclaimed to be the best thing on the menu. I loved the chicken salad and the honey mustard could have been normal dressing. It was so good.Only tip is to skip the nachos because the chips were just meh and when you eventually do run out of toppings, it is not worth it. Overall it was good, we would absolutely come back.

I'm struggling with giving 2 stars.. I just didn't get a good vibe from my first impression. One person comes to interrupt my server who was at my table talking to me about the menu to ask her about something she did then said "don't do that". The verbal dress down was so unprofessional that it made me want to get up and leave! But I didn't .. because I was already there and was on my way to see a ballet. I ordered the jr fakin beyond burger meat with no bun. It was ok. It definitely needed something to make it more firm. It ended up being pretty mushy consistency. The Brussels sprouts were good though.

10/10 would recommend! We went to 4th & Staye yesterday and I still cannot stop thinking about the food! The Maui Wowie Personal Pizza and the Loaded Fries did not disappoint!!! If I wasn't so ful I would've gone for a second round of the milkshake. Couldn't tell any of my food was vegan! The Jalapoppin' Chick'n Sandwich was good but the pizza, fries and milkshake were our favorites. Can't wait to go again to try their breakfast. Our server was also an absolute gem. She was patient and kind while I took my time deciding what I wanted to order, not to mention she was attentive but also gave us our space to eat! Great food, great service and great atmosphere!!
