I'm unsure of how smart some of the people who work here are... hopefully I'm paying for a good education. Hint hint. Student services should have more than two disabled parks near their offices, and it takes more than the 30 min max on the meter. Also it helps if someone enforces the metered parking. It took "able bodied" friends of my students longer than 30 minutes to take care of their needs, how is someone with a disability meant to do it? So I parked in the visitors parking, half way across campus. It's amusing "Good access is good business" is on the door to the 504 office.

It's been only a week being here and I've been pretty disappointed. They told me there was free parking in the tour and I got a ticket in the alpine garage after registering my vehicle. Not only that, but the food SUCKSSSSS. I mean atrocious. There's no air conditioning in any of the buildings which makes it hard to study and enjoy anything at all. The campus is also super spread out which makes it harder to get to class if you have classes that are right after each other. (You can't park anywhere or you'll get a ticket) The town is beautiful and the classes can be intellectual. Defiantly would recommend living off campus or looking into a different school.

I loved going to this school. I graduated in 2013. UCCS seemed to really set me up for success in my first 2 jobs out of college where I was writing proposals, but now I'm at another job as a technical writer and feel completely screwed over by the education I didn't receive. I went through the Professional and Technical Writing program in the English department. There were many classes on writing proposals which seemed excessive and only a few - or one - on technical writing. We were made to take one class called Tools for Technical Writers that introduced you software, but it wasn't nearly enough of what we needed. It turns out that people in the working world sometimes don't really know what a technical writer is and think they are getting a software expert when they hire you. The term Technical Writer is deceptive to those who are not familiar with what one is. A technical writer is a person who translates technical concepts into easy to understand, plain English. Technical writers are linguists in many ways. It does not mean that we are software experts. I have suffered much embarrassment at work that I don't know many software at an expert level. I have been accused of misrepresenting myself on my resume because I said I knew Microsoft Office - which I thought I knew - but they were expecting me to be "the most tech savvy person in the building." UCCS should have been requiring me to take a handful of software classes and eliminated some of the other stupid requirements like Hiking class for physical education. The only thing that hiking class is going to be helpful for now is when they hike my butt out the door.

The most obvious positive is the great location. It is so beautiful and the campus does a great job of blending in with the natural landscape and not conflicting with it. The faculty is a bit overstretched because their student body has grown so quickly but they still go above and beyond to be available for students. The staff is friendly and the activities have gotten much better than they were. There are brand new dorms, parking, and newly renovated dining facilities and state of the art rec center. They are doing their best to increase class options and time availability.Parking.

Only the slimiest run this awful place, the parking department will make sure to take as much advantage of you, let their workers insult you, and well deny an appeal because of lack of evidence, the dorms do not have AC, saftey is far from a priority as there were absolutley NO WORKING CAMERAS when i was there, my truck got broken into by month 2 of living here, i found more evidence and information before the detective was supposed to reach out (he never did) and the police said that the cameras do not work, the water is unusable without filtering it yourself, and so much more wrong with this awful place, no wonder it ranks so low

I spent 7.5 years at this school getting both my bachelor's and master's degree and I loved every second of it. The campus is beautiful and I was lucky enough to form great community here and work on campus as well. I was a commuter student, so I can't speak to the housing situation. The vast majority of my professors were great and I loved my classes (the chemistry/biochemistry department is great!) Downsides would be parking (which many people have already mentioned) and sometimes getting to the school can be a bit tricky with inclement weather due to it's location. Overall, great state school with quality education at non-pretentious prices.

Caution if you may need to take online classes! Post-pandemic, UCCS is cutting back on the ability to take classes remotely. Students find limited availability, perpetual waitlisting, online sections cancelled at the last minute, and hybrid classes that make no provision for remote participation. To avoid having to unexpectedly sit out a semester and potential for not being able to complete a degree, consider getting out in front by choosing another university.
