My wife and I were in the vicinity while camping and needed, not wanted, mexican food and after searching yelp found this place. The prices were good as was the service. We were provided with chips and salsa which, to us is a must in a Mexican restaurant. Our food was very good and, if in the area again would go here again. We had a dog with us so we had to be on the patio so can't mention the ambience of the inside of the restaurant. Overall we were pleased!

I have eaten at this restaurant about 25-30 times over the last year and I have thoughts. There are very few places that I have found in Pueblo that offer vegetarian and pescatarian options, especially the chilie sauces. Tocayo does. There are not a lot of vegetarian/pescatarian menu options, but there are several to choose from. That is why my family has eaten here so often. Apparently they even recently started making the Spanish rice without chicken stock. We were happy to hear that. From what we are able to eat on the menu, the food is generally ok. I wouldn't say great but mostly acceptable. The table side guacamole is very good and our favorite thing on the menu. The house salsa is decent. We enjoy it. I love fish tacos but I am not a fan of their fish tacos. You have to buy 5 at a time and it comes with Tilapia which is not a great fish option in my opinion. A lot of people are ok with Tilapia, but it is cheap fish. That is probably why they use it. There is the option for Mahi Mahi for an up charge which is fine, but most places that serve fish tacos don't do that. I wish I could buy fish tacos à la cart or a two taco plate or three taco plate but five tacos is just too much and only makes the meal more expensive than it needs to be. Nobody wants to take leftover tacos home.I often order a combo plate with a cheese enchilada and a chile relleno. The enchiladas are pretty good when the cheese is melted properly sometimes it comes out hard in the middle. Also, I'm not a big fan of using an egg roll wrapper with a poblano pepper as the chilie relleno. I am much more of a fan of a proper green chilie pepper breaded and fried New Mexico stlye. But again they're just not a lot of options to choose from on the menu. The service is usually pretty good though. Everybody is super friendly. Their signature drinks are pretty decent. Although, I wish the happy hour included other tequila drink options rather than just a house margarita. They use low quality tequila for their house margarita (It is not even 100% agave!) But even though we have eaten here quite a bit, I find myself cringing when it comes up as a suggestion as a place to go out to eat lately. The food quality is wildly inconsistent. The last few times after I ate there, I didn't feel good later in the night. The food feels heavy. I could be wrong, but, it feels like they probably use the cheapest ingredients they can find rather than the highest quality. Also, I'm not sure they change their fryer oil enough. Sometimes the food tastes better than other times. You can tell when fryer oil has been overused. The food has a certain taste and smell. The last time we went, the whole pinto beans which are supposedly vegetarian were served to our entire table with big chunks of meat. It may have been an innocent mistake but nonetheless, it made us feel very nervous about the truth of vegetarian options. Or at the very least, the care taken by the kitchen staff to make sure vegetarian food is not contaminated with meat. To meat eaters that's not an issue but for vegetarians it very much is an important issue.I'm thankful that Tocayo has been an option for us. We used to like it a lot when we first started going, but the food had gone downhill the last few months. I'm not sure why.

I generally like to go here because the food is good. But this last time the service was awful. The male server took a while to come over to our table and there was only about 4-5 other tables. Then he took our drink order and another lady bartender came over and asked again for our drink order. Then she went to ask the server about our drinks which he explained what the two were. She then brings out a wrong drink. Never checked up on us for refills just talking to the guys at the bar.

We revisited Tocayo tonight, it's been a while and I was pleasantly surprised!!! Looks like the menu was changed and for the better!!! We had the avocado, beef tostidos for an appetizer, so good! I had the 5 Tilapia fish street tacos, came with a green and red dressing on the side, cabbage and onion salad w/cilantro. Some cucumber slices and I added avocado on side. It was DELICIOUS! My hubs got the El Pastor street tacos, loved them as well! The service was great as well, the waitress was friendly and brought all our food on time. I asked her about the change in menu and told her how good the food was, asked to pass compliments to the chef. She let me know the owner was the chef! Well done to the owner on the changes! Will be going back again soon!
