We stopped by 3rd Street Apple farms after visiting Happy Apple Farms and found them to be infinitely more organized with a much better harvest! They label their apple trees so you know what kind you're picking and post flags so you know what trees you can pick from. We literally picked 5 apples from Happy Apple and left with several bushels from 3rd Street. They also had peaches! We will DEFINITELY be visiting 3rd Street in coming years! They also harvest their own honey. Support your local farmer!

I came here with my mother and brother to enjoy one last nice fall day before the weather descended into dark, cold, and rainy depths. It was a beautiful morning- nice and clear and crisp. The drive was about an hour and a half from Denver down Colorado 115, but because we all like to talk, the drive seemed to not take long at all.Penrose is a tiny town just 15 miles outside of Canon City, and apparently it is the apple capital of Colorado. In the distance of a mile we saw 4 orchards lined up along the dirt road, interspersed with barns and horse pastures. We passed by all the others to get to Third Street, and are so glad we did.First of all, their orchard is medium sized, but it is by no means over-picked. There was a bountiful crop of apples just waiting to be picked. And so many varieties! The honeycrisps had all been picked :( but there were plenty of gala, yellow and gold delicious, Mcintosh, and many more. They also give you those nice, round wooden tubs lined with a thick plastic bag to put your apples in. When you pay and go home, they simply take the plastic bag out of the tub. And their store, though small, sells preserves, syrups, soaps, and cider. I really wanted a bar of apple soap and the cookbook they publish that provides recipes for everything they grow - pumpkins, apples, and peaches. That way I know what to make with my bountiful produce! The owners are super-friendly and even invited us to come back with a picnic and sit in the orchard, even if we didn't buy anything! After all, next to eating fresh-off-the-tree apples, our favorite part of our visit was sitting in the shade and listening to the wind in the trees.A really, really great way to spend an afternoon, and I'm sure we'll be back. It was perfect for family bonding. I really can not say enough nice things about this place. My one word of advice would be to skip all the orchards you pass on the way and come straight here. The other orchard we went to was Ferrara's Happy Apples, which was way too commercialized, crowded, and over-picked. Choose Third Street Apples, instead. You won't be disappointed.

What a fabulous family run company! So many more apples than happy apple farm! Some were even so low my 3 year old could reach than. They were about the cost of apples at the supermarket too! We had a picnic under a tree and then picked even more apples. We will be back yearly!

We went to Third Street Apples today- and the crop was GREAT!! We have been here one time before (2 years ago)- and it was just as wonderful as we remembered it. We drove by a few other orchards and even stopped at one- Third Street is the best in the area in our opinion. The owners are friendly- it's a smallish apple farm- so you see them in the store and out in the orchards. They are full of information about the apples and they seem to really enjoy their work. The grounds are awesome- no dirt lanes full of rotten apples all over the ground. There is grass that grows under the trees and between all the rows- and the grass is cut- so no walking through knee high grass/weeds as with some orchards in the area. They have great baskets lined with plastic bags to use when you pick your own- the 10lb baskets were perfect for our kids to carry on their own. They also have wagons available to pull kids in- or your baskets of apples. We used our wagon for both! The price is competitive and the apples were delicious. We bought. We bought about 45lbs of apples today- McIntosh, Jonathan, Jonalicious, and Harrelson apples. We will likely go back one more time before the apple season is over!
