What an amazing dinner for my wife's birthday trip to Leadville! We were grabbing a beer at the Scarlet Bar and asked the locals where they liked to grab a bite to eat. The bar owner could not say enough about the recently reopened Leadville Grill and Cantina. As we were leaving the bar, he mentioned we were going to the cantina for dinner and a group of bar patrons started to tell us what to order and how fantastic the food was...When we walked in at 7:15, the restaurant was still busy and folks continued to stream in. We opted to sit in the bar area as the bartender Kyle said he would be able to serve us quickly. We started with an ice cold beer and surveyed a large menu with so many options. We had decided to split a combination platter and Kyle had recommended the Roberto Special - a stuffed sopapilla with chicken, avocado, cheese smothered with your choice of green chile. We tried the #5 combo platter - taco, tostada, and chile relleno with sides of rice and beans. I did pick the Roberto's special with half and half - mild/spicy green chile.Kyle brought us chips and salsa after we ordered. The chips weren't greasy and we enjoyed the salsa it was packed with flavor - cilantro and garlic. Reminded us of our favorite spot in VA.Our orders came out in a fair time which was the effort of stuffing the sopapilla pastry. Worth the wait, as the dish was served hot and was packed with chicken. Definitely enjoyed the green chile and highly recommend this dish. Our second dish was the combination platter we loved the ground beef taco and my wife loved the refried beans very flavorful.During the meal, Kyle brought me a sample of their house margarita which was really something else. We ordered one and was not disappointed. The owner Mike stopped by our table to ask how things were. We told him how impressive the food was given we heard they had just opened. He gave us the quick story and the restaurant's recent soft opening! Super friendly and gave us a sample of the sopapilla for dessert! They were so amazing! Soft but nice texture on the outside a perfect way to complete a birthday dinner! The staff was amazing to watch everyone working together and the cantina was immaculate! Next trip to Leadville we will return! Thanks to Kyle and Mike!

Staff was friendly, food was ok. Mole was traditional, a little on the too sweet for me but I understand, gotta cater to the audience, portions were good size, we needed a to go box. Looks like a cute spot!

We were seated right away on Monday night. It was a lot bigger than I expected. Easy on premise parking. The house margarita was filled to the rim. I had their chile rellenos. Mmmm good. The menu didn't mention this but it also comes with rice and refried beans. If I knew I would have asked for no beans, but no big deal. The chile rellenos were better than the ones I had in Mexico just a month ago! Who knew you can have a great Mexican food in Leadville! The waiter Matthew was very personable and attentive. I totally recommend this place over the other Mexican restaurant near Safeway.
