The Drive-In TastyFreeze

It's a cute ice cream spot near the old North end! There are lots of outdoor seating and string lights for when it gets dark! They are open pretty late, but keep in mind the grill closes at 8 pm, so after that, it is ice cream only. I opted for a sundae, and it was delicious. I do wish there was a bit more ice cream, but the brownies were so moist! I also ordered French fries, and those were piping hot when they came out, so I had to wait for them to cool down, but they were so crunchy! Great for dipping in ice cream!

Service was atrocious. The order we received was wrong and instead of listening to why, staff argued and told us no before shutting the door in our face. The food we received was ok, but I will never be back because of the staff.

I grew up in Michigan. During the summer we went to Tasty Freeze. When I moved here I found out the tasty freeze was 4 blocks from my house. Went all last year. This year we get to bring my new granddaughter. Family Traditions being made.

After eating tacos, I decided to stop by Tasty Freeze for some sweets. For its price, I wouldn't say it's worth it. For the quantity, it's very minimum. For its taste, it tastes just like any other dessert you can find elsewhere. It's really not special. As for customer service, the cashier was pretty nice, but I didn't really interact with her as much, so I can't really say. Overall, would I return? Probably not. The only reason I came was because it was nearby, and I wanted a new experience. It's probably a local gem since there were quite a few people there.

Went here because of the thousands of reviews but honestly it was just ok. The soft serve didn't have much flavor and it wasn't very creamy.

I really wanted to love this place bc of the nostalgia. But my burger was terrible. Fries were ok. And the shake thin. I know it's kind of supposed to be this way. And I will say it was a fun and very clean location! So maybe go try it out and at least you can enjoy a hot dog and a soda ! Also, the people working there are very nice.

This review is solely for the ice cream. We ordered an Oreo Ice Cream sandwich and a small Reeses flurry. The ice cream sandwich was rock solid, I could barely bite into it. It easily could have been made fresh but definitely seems like it's been in a deep freeze for a while. The mcflurry was meh. The ice cream had an icy consistency not thick and creamy. Overall pretty bummed with these two items. Total was $10 and I would have much rather bought a pint of Ben and Jerrys and put it between 2 cookies myself.

Great place. Been going here since I was a kid. All of the grill options available are a great addition but know that they do not serve food past 6 pm. They say they are open till 9 pm but that is only for ice cream. Not really a problem but I figured I would let others know as they do not have this posted anywhere and it has made it somewhat of an inconvenience. Either way their food and ice cream is great.

Okay, so full disclosure: my sister just bought this a couple of months ago, and I feel it's not fair to write up a good review without mentioning that.But, I assure you, this is the absolute truth:This was one of the best burgers I've had. Remember that episode of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon talks about why he prefers his new hamburger spot over the old? He says something like:"This burger has the perfect ratio of bun to meat to condiment."That's the case here. Plus it's a brioche bun which has been grilled. The sauce they put on there is perfect, too.Wonder Wife is not a big burger fan... nor are her kids who were with us. All three finished their burgers almost as quickly as I did.The french fries and onion rings are delicious and go very well with the burgers.But the star of the show is the freakin' ice cream!One of my all time favorites things is to get a soft-serve at Dairy Queen dipped in butterscotch. When I saw they had this here, I just had to try it.I'm sorry... Dairy Who?The ice cream is wonderful and the butterscotch was thick and delicious.Stop by and give it a try... you won't be disappointed.

All of our order came out perfectly except my husband's burger--he'd asked for no cheese (emphasized it a couple times when placing his order) but it still came with cheese. We kindly asked for it to be corrected, at which point the cook came to our table and slammed the order down, highlighting that the burger didn't say anything about cheese. Trying to be nice, I said they simply must have rung it in wrong, and could we just get one without cheese really fast? At which point the cook said...whatever you want but it's definitely not going to be fast--very rudely. Finally overly frustrated and not wanting to have half or order get cold, we went back to the front and asked for a refund, and to just cancel the change on the burger. There were no apologies and we were told we'd receive our refund in 2-3 business days. Two months later and no refund. Looking at other reviews, this seems par for the course. I doubt this company will stay in business much longer as they can't manage the rudeness of their staff, which is sad as it's such a local icon. We will certainly never return.
