This review is for Crag's trail and not the campgrounds. I was in the mood for a moderate hike that showed off all the Aspen foliage as we put September behind us and this trail was everything I set out for it to be and more.Once you make that left from US-64 you have about a 3 mile drive up a dirt road and from there you will see the parking lot to the right. The trailhead is easily marked making it almost impossible to miss (#664). The parking lot is fairly small and heavily trafficked so I'd recommend arriving earlier the better.5 miles down and back. The first mile is mainly switchbacks but smoothes out the remainder of the hike. The aspens showed off their vibrant yellow colors which made the hike that much more enjoyable. The weather can change drastically especially when you make it to the top. It was raining and pretty windy when i got up there so a jacket is highly recommended. As well as good hiking boots as you experience different types of terrain, particularly at the top where it's mainly rocks. There are bathrooms at the trailhead parking lot which is extremely convenient. Especially for my hour drive trek back home to Colorado Springs. Give this hike a go!

This review is for the hiking and not the campground. I did the Crags hike with a large group of friends (all different fitness abilities) when we were in Colorado Springs for a wedding, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, though they went at their own pace. There are several other hikes in this area that I haven't tried, but really enjoyed the Crags trail because you walk through so many different environments. It starts off in a wooded area with Evergreen and Aspen trees. The first part of the hike is pretty steep (and challenging if you're still adjusting to the altitude) but it levels off for quite awhile after that when you enter more of a prairie setting. The view at the end of this hike is breathtaking, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Colorado Springs area. It's a little bit of a drive from town (and the roads are rough - so mentally prepare yourself) but it's a great hike that overlooks some beautiful mountains, trees, and bodies of water at the summit. I should also note that the turn for this hike is easy to miss if your GPS isn't always speedy with telling you where to turn. It will initially look like you are driving right into someone's ranch (but you're not) so keep forging ahead. Bring plenty of water and a snacks to stay hydrated reward yourself at the end!

I have camped at all the Colorado campgrounds in the state and have been a very earth friendly camper. When I camped at the Crags on Aug.12 and 13 I was told by letter from a camp host that I was not allowed to leave my cooler on my table around lunchtime! Very wrong ! Everyone always has and I have also! I think it was a form of harassment!

Our family recently spent three nights here and it's a great remote-feeling campground close to Divide and Woodland Park. The camp host, Ann and crew kept the vault toilets very clean and stocked full of toilet paper. There is a water pump next to site 11. Most of the campsites are close to Four Mile Creek for the kids to play in. Check-out time is noon so you can pack up at your leisure. The two mile hike up to the Crags was very scenic. You'll have to pack out all your trash since there aren't any dumpsters available. No cell service. :)

The Crags Campground is AWESOME! It is quiet and perfectly situated so you can hike about 2 miles to The Crags, or begin your Pikes Peak adventure from here as well. Each camping spot has a table and a metal ringed fire pit. Probably about 90% of the spots are along a mellow little stream. There are also fresh water hand pumps located at various spots around the campground. Most of the sites are wooded/ shaded. This summer a mother-daughter have teamed up to be the campground hosts. They are over the top nice and even brought us a couple of pieces of firewood at sunset.Just head south on Hwy 67 from Divide, the turn off is about 4.3 miles from Hwy 24 (on the east side of the road). Drive for about 1.5 miles and turn right at the Mennonite campground to stay on Teller County Rd. 62. Just another 1.5 miles until you reach the campground. It will be just after the The Crags trailhead. You can also hike to The Crags from the campground itself. Just follow the road up through the campground to the end, and there is a trailhead there as well. Some will recognize this as the original Crags trailhead.
