We all have our own trigger words. For me, it's "empanada". If I randomly find a empanada restaurant when I'm driving I'd immediately pull over and rush to it to get me a few. Well, I wasn't driving when I found this place; I was on my way walking to hit the slopes at none other than Keystone Ski resort after I had parked my car. The store wasn't open yet (it was about 7:50am when I saw it; this place opens at 8am.) I thought I'd stop here after my runs which exactly what I did. While skiing down the slopes several times, I couldn't stop thinking about it so when I was finally done with my time on the snowy slopes, I wasted no time rushing to the restaurant. I wasn't that hungry despite all the workouts I did up there but I simply didn't want to get me just one empanada so I got me the Veggie and Fatay. Their empanadas are quite the size and most or all of they appeared to be $5.50. This is not bad for a restaurant at a ski resort as usually places at ski resorts (like restaurants at airports) have overpriced food. Service was fast; the guy who assisted me was courteous and pleasant. It was a smooth experience. Now this restaurant is tiny so there is no seating inside it so you'll have to eat outside. This wasn't a problem though as the temperature in the mountains today was extremely high in its upper 40's. I found a very inviting table outside where I sat and started to devour my two empanadas. UNFORTUNATELY however, the empanadas were disappointingly unpalatable. First of all, they tasted old as if they sat at the display glass case for hours. Second of all, they lacked the character to a point where they were simply bland. If I go ahead and use one simple word to describe them is probably "boring". The Fatay was a bit better than the Veggie but the ingredients were so mismatched. Why on earth do they have to mix ground beef with lemon juice is so hard to fathom. The sourness from the lemon pretty much killed the flavor of beef. This was simply awful to say the least. This probably was my worst empanada experience. Yeah it's true; other ones/flavors might be good but I don't even know if I'll ever go back here just to see others would taste good/decent/better. I'd rather stick with my go-to empanada places so I'll know I'll get the kind of quality I'd want.

I love empanadas and these guys did not disappoint! We ordered a bunch of them (chorizo, corn, mushroom, veggie, spinach) and they were all wonderful! The chorizo, corn and mushroom ones were really good! There is no seating area in the restaurant so expect to get takeout and then find a place in the Village or you can even take them up the mountain as we did.

Walking by and couldn't resist trying one. $5.50 per empanada and they have loads of options. We grabbed a vegetarian corn one and it was pretty good. We split one of the hand pies as a little appetizer. We were there 5 minutes and they had at least 4 customers in that time at 3:45pm on a Monday (Keystone Resort).Small but has one table inside and plenty of seating outside.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!From what I hear, this just opened for the 2023 ski season, hence the absence of other reviews. It's a little shop- best for takeout. They have a little table with a couple of chairs inside but I wouldn't really find it comfortable to eat in. It's located right by the ski school check in so we found it very convenient to buy them as fuel before lessons. We tried the following flavors with the following opinions:- Corn Empanada - very creamy and surprisingly good. Sort of surprises you because the filling is more ooey gooey than you might expect but the taste is nice. Went back for more.- Eggs and sausage empanada - meh- Regular chicken - pretty good- Spicy BBQ chicken - YUMMY YUM YUM DELICIOUSNESS! Once we had this flavor that's all we kept buying. Now mind you- we looove spicy food so this hit the spot. Very flavorful. We came here like 4 times over the course of a three day trip lol so as you can see we HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I hope this shop sticks around. It's nice to have something different from the American fare featured at allll the other restaurants at the resort.

These are some of the best empanadas I've ever had. We both got the spicy BBQ chicken which has dinner kick but not a crazy burn. I also got the Fatay. I could eat 10 of them. Highly recommend getting food from here. Probably the best restaurant in River Run

Very authentic and fresh. Baked so they are really good! Get one for pocket lunch on slopes. Or one prior to happy hour. Great options to choose from. We got them to go for in condo easy dinner. Priced fairly.

These empanadas are so good! They are filled with delicious marinated meat! Served up hot and probably the best good food deal on the mountain! Grabbing the breakfast empanadas to stick in your jacket to munch on the mountain - would be genius! But it's a great lunch or dinner too. So glad we found this little gem!
