Susan Helmich has been my "go to" jeweler since 2010. I started with the easy stuff; i.e., buying gold replacement backs for my pierced earring posts. Then I went for the big one: reconfiguring a very expensive pair of pierced-post earrings that I'd had custom-made in the early '90s. I had stopped wearing the earrings because my earlobes had thinned which caused the earrings to bend my lobe backwards and look remarkably awkward. The awkward hang made me self-conscious, and it was impossible to feel any joy when wearing the earrings.Before meeting with Susan, I met with several other independent jewelers in town. Each studied the earrings on and off my ears and then suggested potential fixes, including replacing the posts with wires. In other words, if one idea didn't work, then I'd have to pay to try another idea. Susan was the only one who tried on the earrings herself so that she could physically sense the problem and compare that with her visual inspections with the earrings on and off my ears. She concluded that reconfiguring the back with a bar to provide a counterweight would solve the problem, and she was right!So now I don't even bother with the other jewelers. If I need a replacement, a repair, or something new, then I just pop over to see Susan. And when Susan isn't there, her trusted assistant Teresa takes care of as much as she can and is diligent about following up. Susan has a small shop on Struthers (just east of I-25 and exit 156A Northgate). She also has a store in Scottsdale, AZ that she frequently visits. So if she doesn't have something on hand here in Colorado Springs, she happily brings it back with her from AZ.Yah ... I'm a fan of Susan Helmich Jewelers!
