I don't know why this place is rated three stars on average. It's a really great community center. I was one of 400 attendees at the Colorado Creative Industries Summit and found the venue to be really nice, particularly the location by the river. It's walking distance to downtown and lots of free parking. I hope the film festival takes off there. I see the bad review now by someone who was at a nearby restaurant and not at the Steamplant - pay no attention to his unrelated comments.

The SteamPlant is THE place to go for concerts and events in Salida. They have the best theater for concerts and plays. Every seat is great. There's a Ballroom for dances and dinners, and an Event center to hold a meetings. Great river views, historic building, and helpful staff. What more do you need???

Utterly terrible. On a lovely Friday afternoon at 6pm on 8/14/15, there were 4-6 old people in their 60's BLASTING 70's R&B dance music stupid-loud in this beautiful setting by the river and it was completely obnoxious for blocks in all directions. We had just sat down for dinner beside the lovely river when it was suddenly shattered & ruined by KC & the Sunshine Band at 120+ decibels. We finished our meal and walked next door, thinking it was some wild party, but it was just 6 old farts dancing like spastic parkinson's-afflicted patients thumbing their nose at the serenity of this beautiful spot on the river. I've enjoyed myself In the past, when I've frequented the Steamplant Event Center, but this experience was awful. Thumbs down. This place is a blight on Salida.

Neat place to check out local acts and hosting events. Much nicer in side than the rustic outside look. Caught a local jazz band here and it was a fun time and relaxed local venue. great location and neat artworks in the grounds around the steam plant.
