The outside of the theatre
A description of the theatre

I LOVE small theatre! Having seen a few productions at Springs Ensemble Theatre, I think the people are amazingly nice, the actors are great, and ... they pick depressing pieces to produce. The happiest ending I've seen here was the two wives (not to each other) who started kissing at the end. I don't plan to see Life Sucks, their next production. I was disappointed that their COVID precautions were enforced with "if you say your vaccinated, that's good enough":From their website: "Note on COVID-19 Precautions: Audience capacity has been reduced to 25 for safety. All audience members must be vaccinated or have had a negative COVID-19 test within the past 48 hours. Masks are required while inside SET. Concessions will not be available. All actors have been vaccinated against COVID-19 , take weekly tests for SARS-CoV-2, and will not wear masks while performing." Maybe it's that we're currently living in a dystopian future that when I go out for a play/movie, I want some happiness and fun in the mix and I'd like to see a happy ending, not experience more depression.

I got to see my first show at SET last night and I was really impressed! My understanding is that SET is a nonprofit theatre and everyone involved donates their time, gifts and resources to make great theatre happen- the company members seem super committed and very hard working and also focused on the community. It's a small black box theatre and seats 30-50 people or so (I think) which gives you a really personal and cool experience. I got to see Tigers Be Still last night and was wowed by the quality of the experience, the truly fantastic actors and the creativity of the set. There is a nice sized lobby, refreshments for a donation, a clean bathroom, and then seating with good views of the up close action. There isn't air conditioning so it can get pretty warm but they have fans. They offer a variety of shows throughout the year and seem to do nontraditional, quirky and artistic productions. I loved Tigers Be Still which was a comedy about depression- it was so funny but also touching, sad and sweet and as a therapist I was impressed with how it was done. What a great gem in our city!

I attended the Holiday Play Festival on December 20, 2018 with my sister and a friend. Every time I go to a SET production, I'm amazed by all that the group can accomplish with a tiny budget and no paid positions! Every SET member contributes in some way to the various plays, they all love theatre, and put everything they have into making the experience the best it can be for the audience. I loved the variety of the 10 different one-act plays in this production. They ranged from hilarious, to wistful, to irreverent. An excellent way to spend a holiday evening. Thanks SET members and other volunteers go another year of thought-provoking, entertaining, and creative productions! I'm already looking forward to 2019.
