On a whim he decided to take this route to town. I'm glad he did as it's picturesque and fun to drive. It's a one way so be aware of that. We stopped to see the dinosaur tracks and the different designs in the rock face. Striations and layers. Saw a chipmunk and some birds of prey. Such a pretty drive.

FREE! ONE way traffic from west back into town by the prison. Outstanding views. Anytime is good but early and later the best. A few spots to stop and pull off road.

Very cool one way road but along the skyline. Hence the name. lol. The drop offs on each side can get someone with a fear of heights a little excited. Cool drive and free.

It's an easy, quick (2.8 miles), and free drive on a paved road. You get to see amazing views of Cañon City and it drops you out not far from downtown and by the prison. We did Skyline Drive on the way to Royal Gorge (I think it was 9 miles away) to kill some time. It's a 1-way, slow speed drive around 1 car wide. There were 3 or so people walking on the drive, so I felt it was tight (would have been worse with a bicycle). It was an easy drive, mostly straight. The ride takes you up and then back down. The best parts were me were some of the rock formation that jut upwards and slightly hand over the path. There weren't a lot of switch-backs, which I think terrify most people, and it had a few pull-offs. We went early (9:30am) and there were no other cars. When you go downhill, be sure to engine brake. The views from the top are amazing and are worth the drive. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer.

Gorgeous drive but precarious. Drive slow and mindfully! If looking for dinosaur tracks stop at first lookout then walk CAREFULLY back down the road to the markers and the tracks are in the wall. Awesome to see!!

What an awesome, yet scary little find. Skyline drive seems like one of the more popular "attractions" in Canon City. There was no shortage of cars driving along this one way road. Once at the top, you can pull over and take pictures and even walk along some of the hiking paths they have. I walked on the lower path for quite a ways and it was pretty scary because the path was rocky and narrow with big drop offs. I definitely wouldn't consider it for small children or those afraid of heights. Like another yelper said, you want someone whose confident and unafraid of heights behind the wheel because the road is tight and narrow with no rails on either side. Plus, there are steep drop offs on both sides with an unassuming road ahead. Once at the bottom, I could breath a sigh of relief, but at the same time realize that the experience was one of a kind.

Most amazing trail in Cañón City, Colorado. The drive lasted about 20 min. Plenty to see! The road is narrow; however there are some designated spots to stop at. Enjoy!

This was so incredible! And it's FREE! Don't take your wide or tall vehicle...no railing. It's 6 minutes and jaw dropping perspective....

I spent a Saturday afternoon in Canon City recently and discovered this gem of a place! The drive is beautiful all around. It's a relatively short drive as well so you don't need to spend a whole lot of time planning for it. Also, be forewarned that there are only a few places to pull over from the main road to sightsee or stretch your legs. At the first opportunity to pull over I missed it because I delayed too long. I recommend stopping at the first opportunity to pull over to get out and walk around a bit. I actually pulled over at the midpoint of this drive to take in the views and snap some photos. It was nice seeing a Father with his two kids taking in the sights at the midpoint as well. If you have a fear of heights or don't like driving narrow roads, I do not recommend this drive. Take your time driving this as the drive doesn't last long. It's worth it though! If I'm ever in Canon City again, I would drive this again. It's always wonderful to experience elevation; to look down and take in earth's beauty and put one's life into perspective. Hope you enjoy this drive as I did!

A quick, but very fun drive across the top of a mountain ridge. Worth taking this route into Canon City if you have a few minutes to spare. Wouldn't recommend for those afraid of heights or inexperienced at mountain driving.
