Roxborough State Park

We have lived in Denver for 18 years and have never been to Roxborough State Park before (it's almost an hour from our house). We discovered today that it is well worth the drive, and look forward to our next visit! We chose a relatively easy hike - the Fountain Valley Trail - which has two beautiful lookout spots. In total, this was about 2.8 miles and very little elevation gain. There are lots of shady spots (with rocks & benches) to stop along the way for a rest and a snack. The rock formations are absolutely breathtaking, and this would be a great hike for out of town visitors who are still adjusting to altitude but want to get out to see some Colorado beauty.A couple of tips:--The park can get quite busy on weekends and the parking spots are limited. We waited in line at the gate for about 20 minutes (with 10 cars in front of us), as they only let in one car at a time once another exited. If you're going on the weekend, go early!--Don't use the gross port-a-potties by the parking lot; walk the few extra steps to the lovely bathrooms in the visitors' center. There's also a water refilling station to fill up your Camelbak or reuseable water bottles.--The volunteers at the visitors' center - as with many CO state parks - are super helpful. There are backpacks with activities for kids, such as bug catchers and binoculars. They also have a CO state park passport booklet, if your family is challenging themselves to visit more of our beautiful parks.

First time here, we were very impressed with the trail conditions and the views. Very limited cell service, so be sure to download your map before you come. Bathrooms near the big lot by the visitor center. We'll be back.

I'm visiting Colorado all the way from Texas. As someone who never sees mountains this place is so so nice! The views are absolutely stunning! I came on a Saturday afternoon around 1:30 in beginning/mid October, we were able to enter right away and the fee was $10 a car for the day pass. We parked at the lot right in front of the trail entrance. The restrooms are right at the visitor center when you walk in. I decided to do the fountain valley trail. It was rated as easy and around ~ 2.5 miles which was perfect for me. The trail included two lookout points! BIG TIP if you don't hike often the valley trail starts with a fork in the road but essentially is a big circle, I would recommend to start on the trail to the right so you'll be going down hill most of the hike! If you go left first there's a point in the trail that's uphill with no shade! So keep that in mind! I didn't know that and was definitely huffing and puffing my way up.. but overall was not bad - it was a perfectly great hike so picturesque!! Would definitely recommend! Love that it checked both fall foliage and mountains on my list!

Now you can add a discounted state park pass with your Colorado vehicle registration and this park was a good reason to add it. There is the Red Rocks Park to the north and also the Garden of the God's to the south but this state park definitely stands apart from those two. I had the opportunity to check out the WC trail. Nice easy hike with lots of scrub oaks along the way with in season yellow flowers with a small stream crossing. It was only a few samples of many trails offered by this state park.In order to get here, had to pass thru Chatfield State Park and can see many cars waiting to get it for the Memorial day weekend. However, didn't have to wait to get into this park. There was total of 40 cars at 3 different parking lots. Ran into several people while hiking the trails but didn't feel like it was crowded.Coming back again later with earlier times and hiking the longer trail.

The park had some great views on our 6 or so mile hike. There weren't too many animals during this visit, but we did get up close to a deer at the end of the hike. We did a trail labeled as "strenuous," but we did not find it to be challenging (I'd call it moderate). The trail is well maintained and was easy to navigate. What's interesting about hiking here is that there is a lot of vegetation versus the mostly rocky hikes I typically do. I believe there were no pets allowed. The place was not crowded and everyone was friendly. The bathrooms at the visitor center were open at the end of our hike, even though the center itself was closed.

Beautiful day at Roxborough State Park! I took advantage of the $29 state park pass and finally got a chance to use it and visit Roxborough for the first time ever! There are plenty of trails to choose from, I did the south rim and willow creek loop trail. All trail conditions during this time are pretty icy, muddy and slippery so be aware!

Such a beautiful view and easy to access! I hiked south rim and willow creek trails yesterday with my partner and half the trail was snow packed and the other half was slushy and muddy. Will come back to hike the Fountain Valley loop. Parking was plenty on Sunday around 11am.

Today was my first day visiting Roxborough State Park today. I very much enjoyed my visit! It costs $10 per vehicle and there is a self pay station at the park entrance. There is a toll booth but it was closed today. The self pay station accepts credit cards. A park pass is printed out after payment is received. Ensure you display it on your car dashboard. There are many nice hiking trails in this park. I love that there weren't many people on the hiking trails. There were plenty of times I felt that I had the whole park to myself. I loved the peace and serenity of this park. There are inclines on some parts of the hiking trails. Overall, I felt the trails were easy to hike.Hiking shoes are recommended! Make sure to bring water with you while on the trail. There are also signs that warn of rattlesnakes in the park. Fortunately I didn't encounter any. However, I saw a beautiful deer on the side of the road as I drove out of the park. Also, make sure you bring your phone or camera to take pictures. There are plenty of beautiful areas to take photos. I saw a professional photographer with gear while hiking my last trail of the afternoon. Also, there are park benches at various areas of the trail to rest, have a snack or check your feet. The weather wasn't too bad today. Yesterday would've probably worked out better for good weather. Plan accordingly with a weather app or check the news forecast before planning your trip. LOVED my visit today! Can't wait to return!

Good spot with good vistas and trails. Laid back easy going. Trails short enough I can manage."Hot Lava - stay on trail." LOL
