I just want to update my already five star review now that I have gone through some of the inspection process. First of all, they STILL earn a high five stars for me. Yes it's a government agency and there are wait times when you go in to pay for your permit, get your plans reviewed/approved, etc. but if you are a homeowner trying to remodel anything or finish your basement, I have found that every single person in this office is incredibly helpful, including the inspectors. Not only are they friendly but they really take the time to ask if you have any questions as well as answer them. Kudos and thank you to all the employees at Regional!I admit, as a woman going down to ask a lot of questions about basement construction and code requirements, I was a nervous about how the experience would go. I was scammed by a contractor who wasn't a contractor and had a lot of questions to make sure that as we complete the rough in of the basement that things are up to code.I had to meet with four people to ask questions of each. Electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and construction. All four of these guys were helpful, did not condescend to me, answered my questions and volunteered information they thought I needed to know.In particular, I have to give a HUGE shout out to Brett Phillips. I was really worried about having to draw my basement plan in order to get it approved. This would have taken me quite a long time and cause me quite a bit of stress as I am not an experienced in any of this kind of stuff. I knew they already had the blueprint for my house from the builder, but I had been told that the contractors needed to redraw it up anyway. He printed out the existing floor plan for my basement which had everything I needed on it. He made my day, week, YEAR much better coming off of a bad experience. Is the second time I've dealt with people in this office and I have found them all to be incredibly helpful and courteous. A high five star rating from me.

I called to get a permit today for some HVAC work and my call was answered super quickly by a really nice Lady. She helped me right over phone to look up what my Contractor had done and processed my permit over phone. It was done in less than 5 minutes with an email confirmation sent as well, and I didn't have to drive to town. Was very happy it was so easy.

I had a very complicated remodel that involved a lot of engineering and back-and-forth. I cannot say enough about every single person at regional who contributed positively in the process of a very complicated situation. A lot of times when I was there, I really didn't know what I was doing and they guided me and pointed me in the right direction every time. Really great bunch of people. Very, very, patient group of people who have to deal with a public that is not always easy to deal with.

My husband and I have had a greater success with Pikes Peak Regional Building, apparently, than the other reviews we've read ... We started the permit process to expand our exterior deck using the online tool from the Regional website. At first it did not seem intuitive, but after a few moments of trial and error it was rather a slick administrative assistant ... that saved us from driving to Colorado Springs (and probably waiting in a lobby) every time we had a question or plan submission/revision. The website for obtaining a Building Permit is used by everyone from General Contractors to homeowners ... so it understandably needed to be more complex than if only small deck expansions were being completed. We felt it was very helpful, understandable and worth the time to learn about it, versus traveling to Regional itself. Our first set of homemade drawings was initially rejected, and rightfully so as we inserted the wrong dimensions for the joists. Whoever at Regional performed the initial e-inspection also placed a few red marks and reasonable comments on our plan ... seeking greater information from us. We corrected our joist dimension error, and also replied and explained our responses to the few red marks placed by the initial e-inspection. The plans were then e-approved! We obviously failed to read the blatantly-obvious comments on the website, because we started the demolition of our old deck prior to actually purchasing the permit. We realized our mistake in time, prior to the first inspection ... which was for the cement footings. We purchased the e-permit using a credit card. For the inspection of the cement footings the inspector was on time, inside a reasonable window of time, with a phone call prior to his arrival. He inspected quickly, and efficiently, and approved our five deck footings ... as they were deep enough and wide enough and met the criteria, which was easily found on the website. The inspector provided a few suggestions about the framing process after my husband asked a few questions. And off the inspector went. The next inspection was for the general skeleton of the deck. It's probably called something other than skeleton, perhaps framing or something like that. Again the inspector was on time, and again we received a phone call (from probably the Regional office) prior to his arrival. The second inspection also went well. The inspector asked reasonable questions about hardware that we used and techniques. They were honestly answered by my husband and myself. This inspection also passed. We have no reason to believe that our final inspection will change our favorable impressions of the software on the Regional website, nor our favorable impressions of the actual inspection process...whether we pass "final" first time or not. We are delaying the final inspection secondary to some finishing touches that need to be completed by a family member. RECAP:Website software = reasonable to use (considering it's used by such a variety of professionals and amateurs)Inspector = good communicator, fair, reasonable, efficient, timely Telephone notification of inspector arrival = A nice touch. Allowed us to prepare for his arrival (stop working), yet also allowed us to work until the last minute.

These county employees are a bunch of clowns. I've had dealings with them over the last 20 years and it is always the same. Rude, arrogant, Nazi like behavior. They call ahead 30 minutes with a computer, no human to talk to. No number to call in case you run into traffic. Exactly today I had to meet at a property and was told it would be 9-12 with a 30 minute call ahead. I received the call when I was on the north end of town at 1215. I headed to Fountain but was stopped on Link road for several minutes due to construction. I arrived at the house at 1250 and there was a card saying "called 1216" "flagged 1246". Inspector could not wait 5 additional minutes!! Someone needs to be accountable and desperately need lessons in customer service.

Water heater leaked, installed a brand new one which cost money and time. Part of the required payment was to have Pikes Peak Regional Building come out and inspect the installation. Pikes Peak Regional Building wants a whole day set aside for the inspection. Which is inconvenient for those that work. So I work to accumulate my vacation time to have to take 8 hours of it and give it to Pikes Peak Regional Building because they can't set a schedule. Pikes Peak Regional Building's employees hang up on paying customers. Very poor customer service. I did finally speak to a Pikes Peak Regional Building employee that said they could flag it that the inspector would call me 30-45 minutes before they came out.
