Phases Accounting and Tax Service

They don't respond to emails or phone calls. They had to file 3 amendments to get my 2022 taxes correct ... not sure they are correct stills!

A one person business who was doing my taxes in previous years merged with Phases (now Apex) in 2021 and he did my 2021 taxes. He told me I didn't need to file a California state return even though I had CA sourced income. Now, in 2024 we get notices that we do have to file that state return.A new person at Phases did our 2022 returns but they were very unresponsive to my emails and calls. Finally they completed everything at the last minute. Thankfully I found a better company for 2023 and when they have time they'll help with the state return that Phases/Apex should have done.!

Stay away from this place like the plague and believe me when I say this business is an unmitigated disaster. If you look at the Google reviews there are over 25 1 star reviews in the last 6 months and every single review is a 1 star review in the last year. They are costing their clients large sums of money with late taxes. They still have returns they are working on from 2022. They will not return phone calls or emails. Please read the reviews !!!! I am getting the BBB involved and their are countless other clients doing the same thing

After obtaining all of our personal tax documentation, they decide to close the business and not tell us. All our personal information is with a firm. We have no knowledge of having to start the process all over again July 2024 and we presented them with our information in March before the tax deadline.

Phases has been doing my payroll and taxes for the last 5 years, since the change of ownership to Apex earlier this year it has been an absolute nightmare for me as a small business owner. Not dependable, not communicative, not professional. I dropped off my tax packet first week of April, they said they would file an extension and have my taxes ready in 2-3 weeks. It's been 4-5 weeks and still not a word.

I would give them ZERO Stars if I could. Now renamed APEX Accounting & Tax Services, was Phases Accounting & Tax Services is a NOT a company you should feel comfortable having your personal information. I placed my business and personal tax needs in their hands believing I was working with Professionals. But that all changed with the NEW OWNERSHIP. I started getting letters over the last 3 months from the IRS with penalties and interest stating that my tax return had errors and unreported income. These letters and corrections have cost me so much money. Not to mention the time and frustration of trying to get a person to respond to your requests over there. I have had unanswered phone messages, unanswered emails, unreturned phone calls. I have them do the taxes for my parents who I am the primary care givers for as well as my son. I gave them the tax info over a month ago with questions that have never been answered. I have sent them the letters from the IRS that I have received since the NEW OWNERSHIP started doing my payroll and taxes and have gotten ZERO RESPONSE. There has been one consistent employee that has been easy to work with, however she does not do tax preparation, so this is not on her. This is not a company I would feel comfortable working with ever again and will never have them do ANYTHING for my family ever again.

I paid Phases Accounting to file three tax return amendments. It was a fiasco!They made a mistake in one of the tax returns. When I raised the issue, they promised to get back to me. They never did. Months later I followed up. Again I was promised that they'd look into it and get back to me. But instead they filed the incorrect tax return without my permission! I found out when I started receiving letters from Colorado and California threatening to garnish. I had to set up a tax payment plan based on the wrong tax return. Thankfully HR Block came to my rescue. Unfortunately I paid Phases up front, so I effectively lost the $1200 I paid them. I wish I would have saved myself the trouble and just gone straight to HR Block.

Horrible! My dad brought in his tax return mid March 2023. They FINALLY completed it the DAY BEFORE the Oct 15th deadline (BTW, it should have been filed by April 15th) all excited it was 'going to be on time!' Ya, with the fees/penalties of filing LATE still. Sure, they filed the extensions, but I had to bug them OVER and OVER to get it done. Ridiculous. They'd lose forms, the person doing the return would switch to someone else, etc.; just a gross sense of incompetence. I recommended here because of the reviews pre March 2023. I can still see now other newer reviews shows they were just as bad under the old management. Not recommended.

Under no circumstances should you do business with Apex Accounting, or more specifically Nancy Spelgatti (the owner). Nancy closed down her location in Colorado Springs without any warning to her clients or her employees. Accordind to public record, she has just filed for bankruptcy protection, and will likely be closing down her remaining location. Her instructions to her employees was to "just walk away and leave the clients". It is unknown at this time how many clients personal information she retained, or what she is likely to do with the information. I can't stress enough, this woman will lie through her teeth and leave you hanging.

Be aware that this company is now doing business as Apex Accounting in Littleton. They have filed Chapter 11 and are closing Phases (aka Apex) in Colorado Springs. They will not be in business long based on their horrible customer service and lack of qualified staff. They do business in a deceitful and dishonest way. Do not trust them with any tax or accounting needs. Find a reputable CPA.
